One ☝️ of the best V85tt reviews I have seen yet . VERY detailed, I brought a new V85tt about 1 mount ago , first Guzzi I have owned , have a Ducati, Benelli 1130 Trek , 3 Triumphs , 955i 800 and 1050 sport , SWM 650 Superduel and loads of Jap bikes . BUT I love the Guzzi for the following reasons
1. Tank range
2. Cruise Control
3. Shaft drive
4. Comfort
5. Handlings
6. Looks
Dislikes
1. Could have a tad more power
2. And the screen - fixed with a wind deflector.
I couldn't agree more with your review. I bought the travel version 2 weeks ago. Absolutely loving it! This is a very unique bike! If someone would ask me.. is it worth it? The answer is.. it depends. You do not buy this bike for the overwhelming power, or the high tech gadgets, you buy it because it is an MG. Also.. all the other bikes in the segment have that high tech-sharp-space-alien-modern look which makes them all look more or less the same.. and then there is the MotoGuzzi V85TT..

I would buy it because it’s a shaft drive, no radiator, easy access to valves and it all means easy maintenance that I can do myself and save my time and money instead of going to expensive dealer. and it looks amazing in my opinion

The reason behind having an air-cooled motor and a shaft drive is simplicity. For long distance travel, you want as few potential failure points as possible.

Great review, thank you! I looked at the v85 Travel today and it's definitely going to be my next bike. Thank for the detailed break-down of what the Travel version has to offer of the others as it wasn't very clear at the dealership. I've been on Beemers for the last 200,000+ km, but the v85tt has me absolutely hooked in terms of esthetics and engineering philosophy. Cheers and happy riding!

Hi Scott; thank you for the honest reviews on the Moto Guzzi‘s V85; Being 69 years old now and returning to riding after a 35 year pause; I purchased a 2021 V7 850 Special; 5000 miles on it now and really enjoying it the power and torque of these new 850 motors is just right. I also just purchased a 2022 travel V85 and requested the dealer to change the gray body parts to the Centenario green and silver body parts with beautiful brown seat; being only 5’7 with a 29 inch inseam; I’ve also requested dealer to install a 1 inch suspension lowering kit and remove the rubber bungs under the seat which will also lower it 3/4 of an inch more in seat height; I realize I’ll be giving up some ground clearance and travel because of this lowering kit; but using it mostly for street riding and some dirt road use at my age I feel I shouldn’t be hindered by it; One reason for adding the second Moto Guzzi may be my bias for Italian bikes and being 100% Italian and the simplicity of air cooling, shaft drive and easy maintenance I can perform myself also the V7 as much as I like it; not quite as comfortable seat wise for longer than one hour riding times; and I hope the V 85 should fill the gap; I also believe the new lower torque curve / power band of V85 is a welcome addition! Very thoughtful review. When you got to the numbers I am glad you pointed out that je ne sais quoi factor - transverse v-twin, air-cooled pushrod motor. We get wrapped up in numbers but so much about motorcycling and what makes it so enjoyable is the feeling and emotion of riding that can't be captured in a spreadsheet.
Love to show ! you have unique style with your reviews. I said on that bike and it sure was comfortable. That is probably one of the best looking adventure bikes in my opinion

Nice video, thanks. Really appreciate the comparo chart. Best selling feature of this bike is...it's a Guzzi, big on character and uniqueness, not so much on (a/c) performance, but more than enough for real world touring. Tubeless wheels a HUGE upgrade for sure.

Great review again, Scott. I find it impressive that MG have managed to turn out an air-cooled Euro 5 compliant bike that's competitive at all! There's something about Guzzis that I love - the numbers really don't mean that much. It's how they look, sound and feel. Long may they continue 🤟
Thank you! Yea, Guzzi's are special, numbers don't mean much when you ride one, it's how they make you feel that is important. This is why one of my all time favorites is the V7III. I get to do a video on the new one in about 3 weeks, can't wait!

Thanks - I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts about quite a unique bike. I get the impression the V85 would encourage 'torquey cruising' and this would certainly appeal to those not bothered about absolute performance.....a distance bike to get you where you want to go in style! If I was in the market for a new bike I would really want to have seen some proper long term reviews regarding the Guzzi for proven reliability. That said - distinctive shaft drive middleweight with character - very appealing!

I love the V85TT 2021 with tubeless wheels 👍🏼. I would swap the front high “motocross” fender for a low front fender & this bike would be even better & more attractive.

It's a really good bike, and your review is very well organized and informative, so thank you for that. The only I issue I have with the V85 is that the 6th gear. It's just TOOOOO short for touring. At 120 km/h it's cursing at around 4000 RPM out of an engine that cuts off at around 8000 RPM, so you'll be feeling that vibration. If we're going to be honest with ourselves, you'll be going a little more than 120 km/h if you're touring, at least I do. At 140 km/h, the RPM is around 5000, and you an just hear that engine spinning like mad and the vibrations slightly translating in the bars. The vibration isn't much of an issue, it's just that you feel like you can't sustain that speeds for long without tiring the engine out long term.
Your explanation is the most exact ..I test it today,,just to add finding neutral almost imposible!
The only Moto Guzzi I want.

It's a real nice looking bike. I think I like the white-orange-red paint the most, too bad only 1 color with the Travel Edition. A lot of character and the Shaft drive is pretty unique.

I had the versys650 which had similar performance and better lean angle, also had 650 v strom both of which I loved doing wheelies on, big road trips with gravel thrown in and the occasional track day! The V85TT doesn’t have the lean angle and mine doesn’t like to wheelie (weak clutch) but it is awesome! It can fang a mountain (mich road 5 atm) pegs drag but not an issue, really great on dirt roads, not top heavy, super lovely to ride, 400km plus range. Best bike I’ve ever ridden in 40 yrs of riding for full tank, bags packed, point it to the horizon, just done 25 000km and can’t recommend enough. Caveat I’ve had bikes that wheelie faster than this bike top speed, it ain’t slow but it’s not a super bike and that is ok! I still smile every day I ride it.
Nice review, really like this bike. One niggle: On your comparison chart, you have the wet weight of the Tiger 900 as 194kg/428 lbs. That's the dry weight.

I think I met you once a few years ago on the Pacific Coast Highway or rather in a parking lot right by the ocean, I had hired a Harley Davidson Road King for the weekend and took it for a cruise down the coast from Pauli Alto, you were riding a white sports bike and we spoke briefly. I'm from Scotland but live in Australia. Looking to get back into biking so looking through various reviews, I had a Royal Enfield Interceptor v650 for a while but I've had to sell it because I've been advised to stop driving due to medical grounds but I hope it's not permanent, cheers, Duncan

I think the tft info screen could be bigger considering the space around it. Saying that I have my test ride next week. Nice informative video. If BMW had kept the belt drive system on the mid-range bike (F800GT) or gone with a shaft drive i would stay with them, but Guzzi seems to be the only player.

Can you compare engine vibration with GS and v-strom ?
Great review of a unique bike. Shaft drive and air cooled makes it very desirable. My only concern would be the cooling efficiency in hot Mediterranean climates. It is an Italian bike, with Mediterranean regions. I would think there should be no issues with overheating I Sicilian summers, for example.
Also, how fun is it to ride, compared to the Kawasaki Versys 650, a bike that is renowned for sporty performance in the Twisties??

These are over 20k Euros, when a Tenere700 is the same price as the UK or Europe.

Very nice.. that kind of suspension travel and ground clearance with the windshield and power is like you say.. Right in there . That's the one guys would want that aren't going to be going places they would be getting hurt and falling 6 times in an hours trail ride. I would say it's a comfy Royal Enfield Himalayan with great highway ability.

One way or another I love the brand Moto Guzzi and I like to look at those peculiar bikes...but I would never buy one because of the more flashy competition. I'd rather buy an F-GS or a T7... But thanks for the review; always worthwile to see them!
That is cool how you can see the cylinder heads. All other bikes u could be riding anything as unable to see engine will riding

I think the "Special" in yellow, white and red looks better. Actually I don't like this colour scheme and it's a shame that you have to choose. Either having all the gadgets included for a better pricetag or having the better looking bike. Kind of harsh, isn't it?
The Euro 5 engine is also a step back. I mean you're right more torque is always a good thing on an adventure bike, but they could have added some more ponies anyway. Especially since this bike was never overwhelming with its power, was it?
Still, I love this bike, love the feel when it massages your hands and your butt and the way it sounds when you hit the accelerator. I believe it is something no other bike than a Moto Guzzi can do!

Nice review, focusing on the changes, since you tried the euro 4 model already and its up there for us to watch. Being with my V7iii i was told back in 2020 when i took her for the 10.000km service to trade it for a V85tt. That its a much more satisfying and smooth ride. I booked a test ride but never went on with it. On the other hand i like the classic style of the V7. You 've riden both, how do you think about going for it?
Na, keep the V7 that is my favorite Guzzi. But it's kind of small for me, I need more leg room, so I'd get the V9. 😁

Hi Scott, I'm loving your reviews. Getting my driving license and looking at bikes for next year. Would you suggest this bike to a beginner? Also, I have seen from other reviews that this bike seems to have some issues with switching gear between 3 & 4, also big amounts of heat coming from the heads. Did you experience any of that?
Yea, this is beginner friendly for an ADV bike no problem. As far as the gear, I've been on 2 of these now and never felt any problems with the gears. But some guys like to complain about something. It's a Moto Guzzi, when you shift you shift, you know when it goes into the next gear. Kind of like the clunk on a BMW boxer motor or Harley. Your supposed to feel it, some reviewers don't like that. Heat: both bikes I rode in the spring so it was kind of cool but this is air cooled so if you live in a hot climate it will run hotter.

I've liked the look of this bike since it ever came out, I just don't think I could own one sadly, it doesn't excite me as much as the bigger adv bikes
Left inadequate CF 800MT...Moving on to this this unique Adv bike MG V85TT. Every review until now, has no bad comments!I think I may have found my other half on the road. Loading love from "Mandello del lario"....
Anything from CF would be inadequate.
Informative review. Thanks. This bike has been on my radar for almost a year now. My only reservation is that it is not liquid cooled. Living in Florida, and contrary to popular opinion, our "riding season" is actually SHORTENED, rather than extended, due to the extreme heat for 4-6 months/year. Think full riding gear in triple digit temps. Not a lot of fun. I wonder how much heat this MG throws off, and at the rider, to his/her detriment. Any input there would be appreciated. Discussion of heated grips, which seems to abound regarding this machine....again, a non issue in Florida (do they make air conditioned grips?). Styling, totally in the eye of the beholder. I actually see hints of the Mandello v100 in this TT85, which i think is attractive. Agree with the contention that shaft drive in this category of sized bike is a huge plus. Tired of chain maintenance.
I've owned the V-Strom, and the Triumph Tiger 800 in the past, and am looking for another ADV style machine to compliment an in-town runabout street maching (Z900rs). If this were liquid cooled, I think it would be a slam dunk!
...oh, and if it had air conditioned grips as well ;)
Yea, you will feel the heat coming off the cylinders onto your legs, in cooler climates that a plus but in your, not so much 🙁 But being air cooled means the engine runs cooler from the get go, it's not stressed as much as a liquid cooled motor. But just wait for the V100 I can't wait to ride that! 👍😁

I love your reviews and the way you focus on details far away from most of the others.
So i would like to mention the following. Since your reviews goes a bit further in details , i would suggest to try to find from manuals or from your own research, the difference in consumption with speed of 130 km/h and 150km/h. In this case i am pretty sure that Bmw Gs goes up to 9-10 l/ 100 km and v85 tt that i have goes only 6.5 -7.
Also you can focus on details like service cost in your excel sheet, i have never seen this in any reviews and especially the period we all live now, cost matters!!

I love the looks of this bike, Can't decide on this bike or the BMW 850 GSA. This bike is Gorgeous, and I love it!!! That shaft drive takes it over the top.
Currently having the same idea. Having F900R wanting to step into GS range and 850 might be just fine, but that shaft drive would be so nice. I guess I need to test drive it once more :)
I liked this video. I've been thing about the Guzzi or the KLR 650. I think their performance and ergonomics are similar. I'm leaning toward the KLR because of price, but I have to ride both before making a decision. :-)

Those are two totally different bikes, enduro vs. adventure. But you can't buy a new KLR650 any more, 2018 was the last year that it was produced. But that is an awesome do-all bike but better off-road than on-road. The V85 is better on-road. And price is totally different too, probably get 3 KLR's for the price of one V85 :)

Not my cup of thea, but a great review as always!
It is a beautifull bike. I have to admit that. I have ridden the 2019 model with 80ps and that already was a bit dissapointing. To me it seemed to have trouble getting forward. Now with 75 ps I dont think it is the bike for me because those 80 ps of the previous modell where on a holiday. Ridden the Tenere 700 and that bike has less ponies and torque but that bike went forward like crazy. Riding a motorcycle to me is also move a little quicker then the rest and not to be overtaken by a Fiat Panda. As said beautifull bike and your reviews are very informative and of good quality to look at. Keep up the good work.

@@ekimandersom4478 I live outside Germany and know what it means. And no I am not German or British etc. And have you ridden the V85tt? I have! And the bike is not fast. And no it doesnt have to have 150 Bhp. But coming from a 2005 GS1200 and looking for a replacement in a lighter class I was dissapointed in the V85tt. And the Tenere 700 despite lesser bhp and torque is faster in acceleration. Topspeed isnt that important but getting away out of an situation requires fast acceleration and that is what the v85tt lacks.
PS is the metric form of HP. 😁

75hp with that torque make this bike quicker than most cars on the road. Around 5sec to 100km/h. I have an old scooter with 20hp and from traffic lights, I'm fast enough. Moto Guzzi might struggle on the motorway but it's not a racing bike. For riding in the city I don't think you need anything stronger than that
I love that bike. But I will never get rid of my 2017 Super Tenere ES.
Now transalp 750 and vstrom 800 are two really strong contenders: same or less weight, way more power, cruise control, quickshifters and for less money!
Transalp does not have CC :). I’m currently in the selection process and it’s basically Transalp vs V85. But being old and also beginner, I tend to go for the MG. It feels more “relaxed”.

Sure, just depends on your size, if you are at least my size should be no problem. Cause all the other factors for "first bikes" are good like, weight, power, handling...etc.

Bikes always had tubes in the day, there is no problem with them.
Are the panniers/side bags waterproof? I am very interested in this model because of the options but I am not sold on the bags though.

I expect that an air-cooled engine is going to go through a lot more temperature variation than one that is liquid-cooled. Don't know if that means a shorter life. That plus a dry clutch? Do the engine cylinders being out that way not result in excessive heat for the rider's legs?
