Hi Chief, I ride a Travel in Belgium. I don't feel any issues with the bigger wind screen, maybe because I 'm only 1m75. You can increase the pm alert light until 6500 pm to avoid to see the light too often. I love this bike, the heat in summer could be a problem if you're in the traffic jam. Sometimes in Brussels it was a hell to stop on red lights 🔥. I've tried off-road and I was really surprised how the standing position is good and how the suspension as working. Great review, thank you for posting. I think I’ve made up my mind and will buy a V85TT in May - price about £9700 basic model in the same Matt black colour. Will also spec the centre stand, tall screen, grips and panniers. Still got a 1976 850T3 and a 1981 Le Mans Mk3….I think the T3 will have to go!
A really excellent review. You nailed it. I have '22 V85 TT Centenario and had taller windscreen and center stand added. All the weird quirky things are minor and kind of endearing really. You are right, it is a motorcycle that has a soul and a story. My other two bikes right now are Urals so I love quirk and story.
Centenarios were made in 2021, and only sold in 2021. Dealers selling them now should be telling people they are not 2022, they don't have 2022 tyre pressure monitoring (which apparently isn't very good anyway).
@@djsomers100 they were taken off the website though after 2021, when did you order yours? I had to wait 6 months for mine, irrespective of when they got delivered they are 2021 spec. So I'm guessing stuff made in 2022 was already on the order books from 2021
@@mmm357m I bought mine off the showroom floor in about August '22 at dealer in Bellevue, WA. I have the factory certificate and it was given its final factory certificate in March of '22. In fact, I just noticed it was signed off on my birthday! It is a V85 TT E5 USA. I have heard two versions of why they continued making in '22. One was just due to pandemic. The second is they continued making until they had exhausted the Centenario colored parts.
I bought a Nero V85 in July. I removed all the Yellow paint on screws and bolts with Brake cleaner. 👍🏼 Lools much cleaner. I also fitted the little winglets on the front side of the tank where the cutouts are for the forks when on full lock. These little French items totally transformed the wierd buffeting inwas getting around my helmet. I fitted the Ermax screen which fits around the lights
You mean those little circle shaped deflectors? I saw them on their site for 40 euros. Do they really help? There is indeed a lot of wind buffeting under the helmet and on the torso coming from that area
@@henrietn I made my own from some scrap Acrylic I had laying around. And some brackets/bolts. It did make a difference. If you look at that area in front of the tank it's all ramming the air flow into your head area. The place I think I am going to block off is the fake air inlet on the front mudguard under the lights. I have also added a Storm muffler only. This releases a little bit more of the gorgeous Guzzi V-twin sound's 🔊. It is not super loud and obnoxious, just nice imo. I found the standard rear shock setting too hard for my weight (90kilo) so I softened it a little Here is a short I made showing the mods I have done on the V85 ua-cam.com/users/shortslPlC1rBK53I?feature=share
I have the Travel version. You nailed all the points. Fabulous and quirky but handles and feels to drive better than any of the hundreds of motorcycles I've owned over the years including many modern GS's, Multi Strada's, KTM Adventures etc.... This bike is special. Do yourself a favor and test ride one. Do not look at the spec sheet and compare to others. You would be doing yourself a disservice. Oh the switches are so stupid and the warning lights but the feel of riding is so great and it's why I ride. I need feel and character. It's playful and fun. Serious but playful. The suspension soaks up horrible pavement better than the Semi Active suspensions.
@@chiefpepdesign Hoi Pep, heb volgens mij de Nederlandse versie bekeken. Vond het juist wel leuk dat er een review was van eigen bodem en herkende je op en aanmerkingen. Maar over het algemeen een heerlijke motor.
I've owned 2 V85TT's since they first came onto the market. Suspension - add 2 clicks to the rear preload to raise the rear when solo. Use this as a base setting. It helps prevent the footpegs grinding. Wind back on the rebound screws on the rear shock and front fork. Down to minimum and add half a turn or so. It makes for a much nicer ride quality.
You can get new lock barrels from the pannier manufacturer to match keys, this is a common complaint with the metal panniers that keys don't match, but new barrels are cheap.
Hej Pep, Good review, thanks for that. If the blinking cruise control indicator starts to annoy you, just press the control switch for a couple of seconds and the indicator will “disappear”, just a tip from a TT rider to an other.
@@chiefpepdesign True, I just find this blinking Indikator so annoying that I prefer to preset the speed at need again ;-). My favorite bike after 40 years of riding. The small quirks are part of its “charm”, for me at least.
Really nice real world review mate. I have a Griso 1200 8v Se and love everything about it. Have been looking at the v85 for a long time hoping they will someday put a Griso engine in it. Now that bike would fly off the showroom floors! Owning both bikes would be perfect for me. I can’t get myself over the 850 knowing how good the 1200 is. I just don’t think I could adjust to the lower power.
Huum when I change gear on my 42 years Old Honda CX500 it don’t make any sound nore does it ever get in wrong gear 😊 I Think I stay with my Old friend - was thinking of getting a Moto Guzzi but thanks fore The review - wish Honda rebuild a CX 850 retro bike one Day that would be cool - no wonder The CX500 is called Honda Guzzi 😁
First I discovered your video about your Honda ST 1300. Watched it several times and suddenly a Pan European became the next motorcycle after my Honda CBF 1000. A replacement for everything from pleasure rides to longer holidays on the bike. Instead of a BMW RT 1200... After a visit to Mandello del Lario and the Moto Guzzi museum, I fell "in love" with the Italian brand. And look - then you had a video about my new dream Moto Guzzi V85 TT. But you sell it in favor of a BMW?! Why?
I haven't seen a review of this bike or the V100 where the rider didn't fall in love with it. I am looking for a forever bike and would never look at nakeds, japanese or any ultra modern bikes as they look like robots or insects, more so in the ADV segment. The v100 and the v85TT have a lot of style and flair to them which I really like. I was going for a V100 when I finish saving up, but now I'm really torn between either the V85 or wait and see what the new stelvio will be like. Knowing my penchant to wander and just take random roads to see what they lead to, whether I'm in my car, my mountainbike or my 125cc scooter, I always seem to find myself on gravel and unpaved roads which the v100 is no good for. Lets see what EICMA brings!
Light and agile is one thing this bike is not in factory form, after I put mine on a diet, it came alive for me. Great touring and evening ride bike, off road not so much.
@@falcn12 got rid of the boat anker that the stock exhaust system was also replaced the rear rack with a light weight option. it's all documented on my channel if you are curious.
@@ryanvallieu594 I have not seen any solutions other than replacing the original headlight so far, but you are correct, I had to replace mine after a crash and it weighs quite a bit as well.
Great review, really enjoyed it. I am thinking about this bike but wondering what it’s like for ground clearance when cornering? I am a spirited rider and worried there is not enough clearance. Any thoughts on this?
Hi Pep, thanks for making this video. I live in NL too (I'm Italian lol) and was truly hoping for somebody to do a proper and complete review of this bike. How does it ride, feels on the highway and all those details, but from somebody local. Fell in love with its looks and character, and I'm saving up for it. I'm still getting my A rijbewijs. Would you suggest this bike also for somebody like me who is just about to get his first ever bike? Cheers from Utrecht
100%! But, I don't know the A rijbewijs rules precisely, so you would have to look if it 'fits' in the regulations. Apart from that, you will definitely be able to handle the bike. As said in the video, it really gives you a lot of confidence. 👍
@@chiefpepdesign license-wise it's fine. I'm 38 and the A is the one allowing whatever you wanna ride (A1/A2 are the ones for drivers under 24). Just really wanted to have a good idea of what the bike feels overall since I'm also going to commute for work occasionally. Your video really hit the spot. Really thanks a lot!!! 😉👍
@@nickralph6765 That is great to hear, I am totally in love with this bike and I haven't driven it yet, only sat on it, but it has been love at first sight, especially the Guardia d'Onore version. I will rent one as soon as I got my diver's license in December just to make sure I am comfortable driving it, and then December 2023 I will buy my own :)
I would research the screen before you purchase. I have read many people complain about wind buffeting with the tall screen as well. I ended up cutting down the stock short screen to be in less turbulent air. Check out the "Great V85TT Windscreen Survey".
There are now some after market 3D print “Mouse ears”. I installed those on my Red and White E4 but didn’t have the chance to test with the tall windscreen yet (Too hot in Arizona right now). But I clearly remember when I purchased the bike that the previous owner delivered with the tall windscreen, how uncomfortable was the ride at freeway speed. Since then only use the short one
Great review!! Can you travel easily with 150-160 kph for a couple of hours and have some power left to overtake in highways? Have you tested the E5+ model to discuss any differences? I am considering buying the E5+ strada model
Thank you for a good review! Thinking about changing to the v85tt but I am a bit concerned if it is powerful enough for 2 up traveling with luggage? My wife and I are Danish, not Italian build. Do you think it has enough power for two people on a long trip? 😊
I think so yes. You will adapt your riding style with the 850 twin very vast. Especially with the cruise control you will notice that you travel much more relaxed. But, if nescassary the bike will do whatever you like. Make your testride with your wife. Just to convince yourself.
Great review! I'm currently looking at the Guardia D'Onore model. That of course, comes with the aluminum side and top cases. Would you recommend that edition over the standard then adding the rest of the bells and whistles? They are both on special at my local dealer since they are 2022 models. Thanks!
Difficult question. I have these paniers since a) they look better imo b) it can carry a full Face helmet... The Guardia is really complete. You have to make the calculation if you add the stuff yourself. I paid around € 300,- more than the travel edition, but now have the color I want...
Thanks for the video. Regarding the metallic givi support, it indicates that it supports a maximum of 6 kilogramers of weight. When placing the suitcase and filling it a bit, this weight limit is immediately exceeded. What do you think about it? Regards
They always communicate a way lighter weight just to be sure. I believe you can fill it till 15kg easily. I would never do that, but I am sure this wouldn't be a problem. But don't go over 130km's per hour with that weight in the back.
Hi , thankyou very much for your video on v85tt , at the moment I am saving for a second hand Kawasaki versys 1000 a very good bike for touring but it is chain driven which I don’t like . I have looked at the v85tt a few times but I get put off because it has a bigger front wheel and also spoke wheels which are hard to clean , so I’m torn between the Kawasaki and the v85tt ? Your video has helped a bit but still not convinced which one to go for , I don’t do any off road just road touring, what are your thoughts is the v85tt a good choice for my touring or should I go for the Kawasaki versys 1000 which is smooth and comfortable but chain drive, I just don’t know? 🤔🤔
Maybe for the Kawasaki if (long distance) touring is your thing. This is a character bike which you buy for a big piece for the quircks, legacy and story.
Is it possible to achieve low consumption or for example 3,5..3,7L/100km solo ride without the panniers in 6 gear at 70,80 kmh constant trottle on the open nice flat asphalt road??
I've done it. 3,7 is possible using E5 98 octane fuel. 95 octane raises the consumption about 3 to 4dl per 100km, so it is not worth it, even it is cheaper. Also, what is not well documented anywhere, is that v85TT actually tells the consumption higher than it actually is. Sometimes even half a litre per 100km -normally 4dl. Please, do not use 6th gear when driving 70-80kph. I did 3,7l/100km, by driving mainly in fourth gear about 70-90kph. I have seen that 3500-4500rpm is best for consumption (and engine wear). Use 6th gear after 100kph, or even later, if you have panniers/passenger.
It is wind resistance which increases consumption for motorcycles, not necessary higher revs. V85 has not enough torque in about 2500rpm to save fuel at all, it actually consumes more. I think in second gear, 2500rpm is still ok.
Hi mate... I want a shaft driven bike so there aren't that many options... I'm looking at one of these but have heard it's not very comfortable for taller rider's, I haven't had a chance to test ride one yet... I'm 191cm or 6'3... what's your experience with leg comfort?? Cheers from Australia...

This is exactly why I choose an Italian bike. I hope I made clear that the character is the thing that wins above any other bike or anything. And it's these 'quirks' that make the bike...
Hey Chiefpep ! Funny I used to follow your mods on the ST1300 as I own one, and this friday I will tell her goodbye at my Guzzi retailer and will come back with a v85 Travel ! After a Bellagio I became Guzzi addict. As you are a fan of performance : aren't you tempted by the Guareschi upmap ? Here in France I read amazing feedbacks about it : more torque, responsiveness, more wish for going to high revs of the engine etc... ??
Indeed funny to hear/read! I have a mod (from the factory the other day) which gives the bike much better responsiveness. I don't know about the mod you have. Is it official from MG? As the bike rides now, it's perfect. I don't miss anything.
@@chiefpepdesign the one I mention is the guareschi map, developped in Italy and done with a partnership with Termignoni. You need to purchase a terminal with an ecu cable/connector equipped with bluetooth and then you can download the map with your phone and inject it (it bypasses lambda sensors). This is also reversible... What about yours : a MG genuine remap or the latest map release ? I am not aware MG proposes a map upgrade ?! @@chiefpepdesign Nice, then it should be good for me too. It also doesn't look small compare to you, I think the top case adds to that feeling. Did you by any chance try Suzuki V-Strom650? I'm curious if the Guzzi slower than the Suzuki. I know on paper the Guzzi has slightly more power but the V-Strom is liquid cooled and maybe revs higher? I tried the V-Strom a month ago in Spain on twisties and thought that it was enough amount of power for that kind of bike, it is also good in the corners. Only downsides I noticed is that the front fork dives a bit more than ideal while braking and the brakes are a bit weak, but it wasn't major and I got used to that quickly. In fact, I just noticed it was signed off on my birthday! It is a V85 TT E5 USA. I have heard two versions of why they continued making in '22. One was just due to pandemic. The second is they continued making until they had exhausted the Centenario colored parts.
Hi Chief!; I am not particularly fan of this type of motorcycles but is good to see you still around making motorcycles videos 👍🏻
Thanks loyal subscriber! 😊
I found the standard rear shock setting too hard for my weight (90kilo) so I softened it a little
Here is a short I made showing the mods I have done on the V85

@@buckymoto1784 thank you for the detailed information!
Great detailed review :). Thank you
I have the Travel version.
Great, defining review. Thank you 👍
I've owned 2 V85TT's since they first came onto the market.
I have it on two clicks one and a half turn from closed. Didn't change the front yet. Any suggestions?
lol Love the down and honest review!
You can get new lock barrels from the pannier manufacturer to match keys, this is a common complaint with the metal panniers that keys don't match, but new barrels are cheap.
My V85tt came with additional locks to key match, easy for dealer to do on prep.
Hej Pep,
Good review, thanks for that.
If the blinking cruise control indicator starts to annoy you, just press the control switch for a couple of seconds and the indicator will “disappear”, just a tip from a TT rider to an other.
Thanks fellow rider! I know, but then the stand-by is off also...
@@chiefpepdesign True, I just find this blinking Indikator so annoying that I prefer to preset the speed at need again ;-). My favorite bike after 40 years of riding. The small quirks are part of its “charm”, for me at least.
Love this moto! Only topic is like the BMW, the heat over your legs. For the rest is my dream moto.

Why?
I switch bikes every year. My love for every bike is real. I will explain in my next review about the BMW RT!
Merci beaucoup l'Ami

this is definitely a good bike as a first bike. its my first bike and done 17000 miles so far with no problems.
Is 5’7” too small to flat foot this bike ? Thanks
@@antonisr827 no sorry, didn't test that model. 150-160 and still overtake is possible but a little bit enthousiastic. But possible.
They have some idiosyncrasies. But I love them. V7 now looking for V85TT.

Never tried that... Sorry. I've managed 1 liter on 23 km's several times...
@@chiefpepdesign Thank you so mouch bro,you are great! 👋😎

I am curious to know how you modified it because I was a little frustrated by the slight delay on the throttle but it seems the euro5 catalysor has its role in it. Cheers

No never. I had that on my BMW though! I am about 1.86m

I own a naked bike and some day in the future want to get a second bike which is more comfortable for touring. This was my testing of the V-Strom on twisties ua-cam.com/video/dwZK0ljIaM4/v-deo.html
