Those belts are tight so in theory it would stop the bleeding until you take it off. They felt the prick of the stabbing but discipline stopped them from reacting. They seem to play it like it feeling like a bug bite which seems implausible but not impossible.
I appreciate how much you guys enjoyed this episode. Some people haven't. I consider it one of my favorite episodes. It was touching to see Rick tear up over Sherlock's speech. I was blown away by Sherlock being upfront about his feelings for John and his own flaws.
One of my favourite eps of the whole show! It's awesome to deep dive into a crime but it's also fun to enjoy the domestic side of the relationships and friendships and have a mini look at various cases... especially as it's a show with so few episodes - the fun filler is something you can miss out on.
The issue with the belt.... The belt itself acts as a "compress", which dulls the senses along the belt-line. Because the person is "dulled" at the belt, the belt itself acts as both a compress to prevent bleeding AND as a numbing agent in a way to prevent people from feeling the sting. Watch the episode again and you can see that the person feels the 'pressure' or at least the 'pinch' of the knife going into them, but not enough to realize anything is wrong, and reactions such as looking or touch will have no result to concern them. Upon taking the belt off, the 'compress' is no longer in place and you will start to bleed. The reason the soldier didn't feel the blood running down his body is because of the shower stopping him from noticing it. The only problem I have with the whole "stabbed through the belt" issue is that the belt itself should start to show something after a while, and the simple act of taking the belt off should start the blood flowing again, which should be noticed before taking the pants off. It's a good idea, but DO NOT START TO OVER THINK IT........... Because if you do, the whole thing falls apart in seconds.
Something to remember about the guards at Buckingham palace, and other royal residences is that they are not just ceremonial! People often think that they are just fully ceremonial troops but in reality they are fully operational soldiers who serve alongside other troops all over the world and then spend part of the year guarding the residences while the other guards go off around the world.
The best thing about these small group reactions is that we get the chance of seeing the guys being more invested (?) in their reactions :) This was one of my favorite episodes of the series!
The belt was tight enough that it was like a tourniquet until released. You stab through and it's so tight, you don't recognize it as a stab. You'd feel something but not enough to cause alarm.
The belt was tight so when they were stabbed it prevented the blood flow until the belt was removed. Basically a delayed reaction so that the culprit wouldn’t be suspected. Mary and Mrs Hudson are very undeveloped in the books. Mrs Hudson only says a few lines and Mary only once appears as a main character in the ‘Sign of Four’ ( what this episode is named after). I love that they’ve made Mrs Hudson have a dramatic past rather than just a dithering old lady who brings Holmes the tea!!
Syndication is the bane of North American tv. Many great limited series programs are dragged on longer than necessary and ruined in order to achieve it.
The Hamish thing is a reference to the originals. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was notorious for changing (forgeting) continuity... Watson's war wound migrated from his leg to his shoulder, referenced by John's phantom limp in so 1. Doyle at one point gave Watson's first name as James. Hamish is a Scottish version of James.
this murder looks like the murder of Sisi (French Empress) on September 10, 1898 in Geneva. Quote: As news of the empress’s arrival leaked, Lucheni (italian anarchist) approached Sisi as she walked along a dock to board a ship, attacking her with a small triangular file. After the blow to her chest, Sisi stood up thinking she had been punched. She did not realise she was injured and continue her walk towards the steamboat. But collapsed shortly after boarding the ship. In fact, Lucheni had stabbed her. Though medical help was called, Sisi soon died of internal bleeding. Very famous case worldwide......
Easy to find out for real: Google "can you be stabbed and not feel it?" - plenty of real case examples. In this case the would-be murderer rehearsed it on a tight belt with a thin blade to test his method knowing his target would be 'dressed to kill' at the wedding. A little easy research clears up a lot of questions during Sherlock episodes.
Now don't quote me on this but i believe Hamish was....a Scottish version of the name James? Which Arthur Continuity Doyle once used as John's name accidentally? And either Moffat and Gatiss did that because of the H or they got it from someone else who did....but i think they did. I guess when you're always calling him Watson 😂 like Moriarty has a brother also called James apparently. Damn ACD who edited these stories 😂
The belt didn't stab him he was stabbed through the belt with a thin long object. Apparently it can only feel like being bumped into or punched. According to a paramedic/EMT don't know how or why
Technically if the blade was thin enough and inserted/removed fast enough chances are you wouldn't feel it very much...esp. with such tight belt compressing the area. It can range from barely feeling it to a slight discomfort and ironically not even a prick but a dull ache or slight discomfort even similar to a twinge cramp or backache in such small area. Obviously the sick guy practiced it on others before using it on his target to increase effectiveness.
The belts are so tightly fastened that with a blade that thin they wouldn't notice, anymore than a prick, and the guards outside Buckingham palace are trained not to move at all, even if they do feel a twinge.
Why don't they pause the show when one of them needs to leave for a sec.. I never understand those people who are okay when they miss some stuff (like going for a pee at cinema and miss few minutes of a movie)
I really liked this episode. Don't understand the hate. It's a great mystery executed really well. The third episode is great and the Christmas special. Then it goes downhill
Who leaves a wedding early? Asks mrs Hudson. As I watch the end and the question repeats in my head, “case and point, mr Sherlock Holmes.” To be fair, I’d do the same thing, if I had to watch the person I loved most get married to a man.
22:40 NO! nope, nopity, nope, nope. Ok, you guys really ignore what the characters are actually saying and just focus on your expectation. Season one Sherlock: "Women, not really my area." Moriarty nicknames him "the Virgin." He looked more then alarmed when Molly referenced her sex life and when Janine propositioned him so clearly,he is extremely put off by the idea of sex in general. Sherlock isn't just "to busy" to get with a woman or "married to his work" he is Asexual. He isn't going to sleep with a woman. Also, "Neither of us were the first you know" and "the man we both love." Geez, and the writers wonder why people were pissed off at them for misrepresentation. Come on.
I love this show, but if u love this, you should also react to “Psych” it is really funny, it’s about crime solving, and it’s very entertaining, and i know that you guys would like to enjoy it, anyways loved ur reaction:)
I just finished catching up to Sherlock today and I gotta say I liked series 4 although it was less enjoyable than the prior series. A certain character who was introduced in series 4 definitely made it worse and was the worst part of the series. However, the interactions between Sherlock and Watson in series 4 is what made it enjoyable for me. I'd give series 4 a 7.5 and the rest of the series a 9(series 1-3).
A lot of people say S3 isn't as good as the first two, I think the first three series are on par with each other. Although the fourth series isn't great, it feels like the show is trying too hard
I believe so, he looks different. I think he has lost weight, he looks in better shape anyway. I was looking through the comments to see if anyone commented on him. You are the first I've seen.
aaannndddd that is the issue people (myself included) have with the writing of this show. The plot....is....not...great. Upon a few watches and deep thought, things fall apart quick. The belt thing is cool, but a far far stretch. Sherlock exposition dumping The Golem, having the homeless network do a lot of legwork, not to mention the the freaking BOOMERANG!! Anyway... Playing devils advocate: We are talking about the writer for the weeping angels episode of doctor who. These writers can write, really damn good stuff, for a short game. Ask them to write you intriguing characters, you will have ALL THE THINGS that make characters great to watch. They will never do something out of character, for the sake of plot. Even Sherlock's napkin folding is totally something I could see this Sherlock doing. TLDR: I love this show, with my logic brain turned off, and popcorn. If I try to "figure it out" with Sherlock....I will watch something else.
Seasons 3 and 4 are where the mysteries fall apart more. This one was still ok, but Final Problem and His Last Vow have major flaws, and 6 Thatchers is pure garbage.
The thing about this episode is Sherlock is his most human, and in the end the saddest and most alone he's ever been walking away from the wedding.
People hate this episode? It's one of my favorites!
Melinda S same
Only stupid people hate this episode
It’s the most cheerful and emotional episode for me personally in this show
Mine favourite also 🙌🔥
YES I AGREE
Those belts are tight so in theory it would stop the bleeding until you take it off. They felt the prick of the stabbing but discipline stopped them from reacting. They seem to play it like it feeling like a bug bite which seems implausible but not impossible.
The sad part is the parallel between Mrs. Hudson saying "I mean, who leaves a wedding early?" and the ending of the episode.
I appreciate how much you guys enjoyed this episode. Some people haven't. I consider it one of my favorite episodes. It was touching to see Rick tear up over Sherlock's speech. I was blown away by Sherlock being upfront about his feelings for John and his own flaws.

In my opinion, it's the best stand-alone episode in the show
Ian Synge Definitely agreed.
David Blyth lol.
The issue with the belt....

And from this point on, the comments shall be divided by the haters and fanboys. Glad to see you guys enjoy it atleast!
#TeamFanboy FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of my favorites. The humor is at an all-time high. It's a fun, light episode.
My favorite Sherlock episode. Watson's bachelor party and drunk Sherlock are the best!
Goddammit guys, I started off this series like "we need the squad here." Now I'm like "Rick+Shane = great duo." I was in tears seeing Rick's tears
I love this episode so much. And Sherlock with that kid is just awesome.
I'm worried for the kid's future tho ...😅
Something to remember about the guards at Buckingham palace, and other royal residences is that they are not just ceremonial! People often think that they are just fully ceremonial troops but in reality they are fully operational soldiers who serve alongside other troops all over the world and then spend part of the year guarding the residences while the other guards go off around the world.
I LOVED the drunken sequence. The whole episode is just brilliantly written & directed.
The best thing about these small group reactions is that we get the chance of seeing the guys being more invested (?) in their reactions :)
This was one of my favorite episodes of the series!
The belt was tight enough that it was like a tourniquet until released. You stab through and it's so tight, you don't recognize it as a stab. You'd feel something but not enough to cause alarm.
The main villain of this arc did make a subtle appearance in this episode. It just takes multiple viewings to catch it.
That drunk whistle was a Freeman improv just trying to make Benedict laugh 😂 so funny
The belt was tight so when they were stabbed it prevented the blood flow until the belt was removed. Basically a delayed reaction so that the culprit wouldn’t be suspected.

I never seen shane so happy while watching a show.
There’s quite a few great shows that have had the same few episode seasons format as Sherlock in British drama tv.
Syndication is the bane of North American tv. Many great limited series programs are dragged on longer than necessary and ruined in order to achieve it.
@@bbictorr but how can you be content with a great series just ENDING? Don't you want more?
sherlock is a great series and this episode in particular is spectacular...the ending scene is so heart touching
I can't believe some people dislike this episode, it's one of my favorites!
I think this and A Scandal in Belgravia might be my favorites. I’ll have to watch the next one to know for sure.
The Mayfly part was because all the women worked for the Colonel and he needed to get info on a time that he could kill him, i.e. John's wedding.
The Hamish thing is a reference to the originals. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was notorious for changing (forgeting) continuity... Very famous case worldwide......
Sisi was not french empress she was Austrian empress
The "elephant in the room" was a good moment.
Rick saying “I’ve never been so wrong so quickly”, can tell this was before the Knives Out reaction
Sherlock gives the best speech
Easy to find out for real: Google "can you be stabbed and not feel it?" - plenty of real case examples.

Don't be ashamed of your tears Rick, embrace them like Eric, we don't judge
I wanna know who Redbeard is.... I can't wait for the reaction to that one!
Now don't quote me on this but i believe Hamish was....a Scottish version of the name James? Which Arthur Continuity Doyle once used as John's name accidentally? And either Moffat and Gatiss did that because of the H or they got it from someone else who did....but i think they did. this is my favourite episode. i cried so hard.
One of my favourite episodes 2:53 😂 the speech was amazing! When they were drunk and 'solving' a case 😂😂 the pregnancy reveal!
The belt acted like a pressure bandage.
Technically if the blade was thin enough and inserted/removed fast enough chances are you wouldn't feel it very much...esp. with such tight belt compressing the area. Honestly lestrade is such a good friend.
I actually enjoyed the drunk scene😭it felt like a very different setting for them to be in and not something I expected
I'm going to be so sad when you guys are finished. You guys make a great reaction team ❤
One of my all time favorite episodes.
"I wanna know who Redbeard is."
You really don't.
Regarding the Dark Knight, Nolan was intending to continue the Joker's story into DKR, but Heath unfortunately died. So it's not like that at all.
*Who leaves a wedding early?*
Me.
Me too
I just go to eat at the wedding.
I hate weddings
Best wedding speech ever
I'll grant that there may be "better" episodes, but this is definitely my favorite.
The drunk part is the best part! :D
My favorite episode
Rick losin' weight? He looks good.
The belts are so tightly fastened that with a blade that thin they wouldn't notice, anymore than a prick, and the guards outside Buckingham palace are trained not to move at all, even if they do feel a twinge.
Sherlock was jealous did you see ?
Why don't they pause the show when one of them needs to leave for a sec.. I never understand those people who are okay when they miss some stuff (like going for a pee at cinema and miss few minutes of a movie)
Господи, да!!
This episode and season is great. People just complain because it's different.
Love that Lars Mikkelsen who plays Charles Augustus Magnussen is also Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels! He has such a distinct voice.
Redbeard! Felt more sorry and upset when I thought it was a dog
SPOILER!!!!
This episode is really really funny, whatever else anyone says about it.
So excited for the next episode. Its probably my favorite
OMG! THE NEXT EPISODE THO!
I really liked this episode. Don't understand the hate. It's a great mystery executed really well. The third episode is great and the Christmas special. Then it goes downhill
You mention “The Beach” from Avatar the last airbender !! ❤️
this is my first time ever seeing rick crying
I am so excited for the rest of the episodes
The last 5 minutes of this episode onwards of this show are just endless pain for me 😂
You know video players/movie hosting services tend to have a pausing feature, pretty useful if someone needs to IDK go to the bathroom or something.
23:18 lmao they just say how it really ends 😂
Mycroft's exercise or when Sherlock asks how his diet is going & cycling alludes to his Victorian character's morbid obesity.
I liked this episode a lot even though it's low on the list for a lot of people. I liked the mini cases!
Am I the only one who thinks Rick looks different?
Btw, one of the best episodes of Sherlock in my opinion..
He's lost weight I think
So do I but this is the first video I watched where he looks like this, so I think the videos I have been seeing are from some time ago
Who leaves a wedding early? Asks mrs Hudson. As I watch the end and the question repeats in my head, “case and point, mr Sherlock Holmes.” To be fair, I’d do the same thing, if I had to watch the person I loved most get married to a man.
Season three is so good! I might seriously upgrade my Patreon just to see the full length! #DetectiveDuo your reactions are so great in this series!
22:40 NO! nope, nopity, nope, nope. Ok, you guys really ignore what the characters are actually saying and just focus on your expectation. Season one Sherlock: "Women, not really my area." Two clues to look at for without spoilers: CAM & Redbeard🤫
This is the best episode!
I’m pretty sure Archie is a reference to Arthur Conan Doyle.
It's not just that Sherlock is smart, he's also a high functioning sociopath. So no, he doesn't always understand how people work.
MavenCree The whole point is that he’s NOT really a high functioning sociopath tho...
Don't know if you will read this post but check the assassination of Empress Elisabeth. This could give you an answer how the murder was done
The belt is a white courlene belt.
Is it just me, or is Rick looking good this episode.

not best episode but definitely the must fun episode it also one I keep rewatching when I just want to watch episode off sherlock.
Johnlock
Can we please vote for these guys to watch final space
Who else misses Shane... 😢
Guys, there is actually a teaser out for Stranger things season 3, I am surprised that I also missed it. Can you guys check it out ?
A lot of people say S3 isn't as good as the first two, I think the first three series are on par with each other. Although the fourth series isn't great, it feels like the show is trying too hard
His dog
Does Rick look different? Mustache trimmed?
I believe so, he looks different. I think he has lost weight, he looks in better shape anyway. I was looking through the comments to see if anyone commented on him. You are the first I've seen.
same, I was so sure he lost weight but none mentioned so I thought it was just me

It's remarkable how fast you go from absolute cringe to breaking down awwing with Sherlock's speech
Yea.. skip every beautiful parts good cool
Seasons 3 and 4 are where the mysteries fall apart more. This one was still ok, but Final Problem and His Last Vow have major flaws, and 6 Thatchers is pure garbage.
Please watch overlord the anime or watch the originals
1:35 or at least show some regret
Dont read comments for Sherlock!!!
The beginning of the end of good episodes ;u;
Why arn't your reactions getting many views now :/? sherlock used to get like 20k
Can you guys please react to spider man
React to JOJO's bizarre adventure, I am sure you guys will love it!
