Ironically, I'd *love* to see a video of what products you hated! It's nice to know what doesn't work for your hair type, or just doesn't work AT ALL (for what's described/advertised, anyway), so we can be more informed, save money, and buy something else that works instead!

    • @Foirelle
      @Foirelle Місяць тому +2

Also, long ramble ahead, but I tried out the Tootilab leave-in and gel due to you and your sis' recommendations from a previous video, and I rather love them! Helps they were on sale and I was running low on my hair products. (I got the shampoo and conditioner too but haven't used them yet, trying to use up my previous Verb volume set first, will update when I do use them.)
I appreciate that they're concentrated so I don't have to use a lot of either the leave-in or gel for my fine but long 2C-3A dark hair, so it'll last me a good, long time, which is automatically more bang for my buck! So far, they work splendidly for the moody weather that is south-eastern Texas. We literally haven't gotten a cold spell that went under 50 degrees Fahrenheit until this very week (hadn't even gotten below 65 F until the middle of Nov. lmao), so fighting any potential humidity has been a godsend. Not absolutely zero frizz, but pretty close (especially with my lazy/quick methods of styling)! Even with using more than I should for the gel to make more of a cast, it does get scrunched out overnight, and maintains my curl memory the best I've had in a long time, if not ever. I went 2 days without needing a refresh, and simply refreshed with a few sprays of water, maybe a little oil if it was particularly dry that day. Lasted 4-5 days until I needed to shampoo, but still looked pretty good for the level of frizz I was used to.
I wanted to mention that my previous almost-empties (will be empty soon enough, haha), the Eva NYC leave-in conditioner mentioned here (the fine hair version), and the Curlsmith hydro style flexi jelly, weren't really working well for me. I wasn't getting enough conditioning from the leave-in, even in the heat of summer, nor enough humidity blocking to stop the frizz from either the leave-in or the gel. The gel would maybe last one night, and leave me with frizz and a lack of curl retention. If I tried to refresh, I'd end up needing to brush it out and rewet it entirely to remotely get my curl back (usually S-shaped or ringlets, depending on the part of the head they come from). I also used the VERB curl foaming gel before it got reformulated, and while I like it for the softness and curl definition it gives, it can only do so much to keep the frizz away. Still, while trying to use up the last I have of the bottle, it seems to be working pretty well with the Tootilab leave-in conditioner, so it's a win on the dryer days at least.
My last gel, Curlsmith's shape-up aqua gel, worked pretty well, but had the same issue of lack of curl retention (to a lesser degree), and made my hair a little too crunchy/crispy, leaving a white cast, despite scrunching it out and all that. I remember their air-dry cream worked nicely, but that I needed a bit more moisturizing. So, I believe my hair loves moisture and dislikes protein (maybe not entirely but doesn't need a lot), but needs humidity blocking on top of that so the moisture holds. Makes sense since I don't blow-dry more than once a week (I do use a microfiber towel, the perfect haircare one), nor blow-out or straighten my hair, maybe only once in a blue moon, making it rather healthy (despite the back of my head/crown area being the most prone to breakage). Still willing to try out their shine gel or in-shower style fixer though, whenever I get around to it, haha. Hopefully they restock the shine gel since I think my hair would like that formula more.
On that note, I'm still waiting on that hair bonnet to solve all my tossing and turning issues, causing the cap to fall off (entirely or partially), and flattening my hair in some form or manner. Best luck I've had so far in retaining my curls at night is using a flat lay claw clip to loosely sorta pineapple my hair on top of my head. Doesn't help the back layers from flattening that much, even doing the two-part method (front half pinned up, back half left down), but it's better than letting it all loose.

Hi Mell!! I absolutely love your videos, I've been watching you for years now, and you have guided me towards products that have given me so much confidence in my hair!!
I am hoping to travel in the new year, but something that always messes with my trips is my hair. Specifically when I'm staying for longer than a week and I can't just put off washing my hair because the weather is so different and the water is so hard (especially when comparing that fact I use a filter on my shower head at home) that it ruins my curls completely for the duration of the trip and for at least a month after I've gotten home back to my filter and all my hair products.
I would love to see a video on what products are best for traveling to these kind of places that are completely different environments that have a much higher water hardness, etc...? Anything we should know, prep or buy for the trip that would prevent or mitigate the damage assuming we could not bring a shower head filter with us? Should we bring exclusively clarifying shampoos? Should we bring an oil treatment? Thank you again for all the knowledge you share with us ^_^ 🙏

I SO badly wanted to love the Eva NYC line but GOOD LORD the heavy scent absolutely killed it for me. I like a much lighter sweeter scent if any and this was just waaaaayyyy too heavy for me. I got all of them, the regular one (purple), the fine hair one (pink) and the leave in (blue). Got the mask too. They will all be going back. I’ve been buying multiple product lines to see what products really work for me and honestly so far, my hair prefers the cheaper drugstore products. I didn’t like the AG products I bought either, or the CurlSmith volume line. I DO love the Olaplex products so far. I do like the Verb ghost oil. The curly shampoo/conditioner is just ok to me. The foaming gel did not impress either and I was so excited to try it. Next up I will purchase to try the Pattern products and the Aveda be curly line. Really hoping for likes on those.

    Mell please help!Hi Mell
I am a big fan of yours! I have watched all your tutorials and apply them too.
I have a question. My hair stays damp ... despite the fact that I blow dry it 3 times during the day.
Today I washed my hair in the morning and blow dried it. 2 hours later again. Blow dried it again 2 hours later. It is now evening and my hair stays a bit damp. Do you have a tip??

When would you use the Olaplex 5 vs the Aveda leave in, if you have both? Thanks

Mi Mell! I have a lot of hairs that are becoming very course/bumpy. My hairdresser said it's genetics but my hair didn't used to be like this. I clarify my hair regularly so i don't think its product buildup. What could be causing this? Thank you in advance and for all your videos!❤ Btw if anyone else has some advice it's also be appreciated!

I get hairs that feel that way, too. I take it as they are just mini kinks, lol.

What’s the difference between the regular be curly and the advanced version? Does it really matter?..

Boy you really love fragrance! Due to having eczema prone skin, I only purchase unscented products, including unscented shampoo and hair gel. Although I do have the same Pattern Mousse that you have and I do love it. I have only purchased one Aveda product that cost me $83.00 Canadian dollars! Way out of my price range! But I love watching you and your sister so I will live vicariously through you!

Mell, every time I see Jade Thirlwall I WISH you could style her beautiful big curly hair. Please do the world a favor and contact her hairstylist who clearly doesn't know how to work with curly hair and she seems to be too loyal to him

I was surprised to hear about Mielle oil. I recently bought the scalp scrub and shampoo with the oil because its affordable. Has anyone else heard or personally experienced the hair loss that Mell is talking about? I have been really trying to focus on my scalp care to help with hair loss. TIA

I haven’t experienced hair loss with their oil but there’s a bunch of TikTok’s from people who have experienced that…

Pretty sure they’re discontinuing the Too Faced Hangover Lip Balm-they pulled the product listing off the Ulta website and on the official Too Faced website, it’s 50% off. It’s the most devastating news I’ve gotten all year, that’s my holy grail.
