The music industry simply won't support two similar-sounding artists when one is already a big star....even if the less popular one is a better musician. Lots of talented artists have been screwed this way, and consequently ended up one-hit wonders. Quarterflash (Pat Benatar), The Knack (Cheap Trick), Soft Cell (Human League), Joan Osborne (Sheryl Crow), Dexy’s Midnight Runners (General Public), Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Dead Or Alive), Mark Dinning (Roy Orbison), Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs (Frankie Valli/Four Seasons), and the list goes on. In the case of The Zodiacs, their hit was functionally stolen and made into a big hit by their competition. It ain't fair, but that's The Biz. Timing is everything.
Could not stop listening to this when it came out, for me her best song by a slim margin. Just love her voice and creative lyrics, still listening regularly in 2023.

I will always remember that one point in the video where she gets out of the car and stands looking up at the snow falling. It gives me the feeling that she is letting the snow flakes falling on her to help wash away the bad feelings and it symbolizes a clean break and freedom. This image will be in my mind forever.

While I'm very underepresented, I'm extremely proud and thankful of all the formerly abused girls who got away though. I have terminal rheumotoid arthritis in my toes from the bitch chasing me up the stairs and around the house.

True story, i totaled my car to this song in 1996. I got hit from behind and my little Mazda was thrown into the ditch on Hwy 54 in Osage Beach MO. I sat there surrounded by broken glass and smoke and finished listening to this song that was still playing on the radio.

i've played guitar for more than 30 years.....listened to so many artists and styles of music....i can honestly say she has the best voice this side of Aretha Franklin....it would be an honor to play on a record of hers.....the most underrated singer of this era

I remember buying the single cassette tape at some store I don't remember where at! But thought the case sleeve was of a beautiful young lady with gorgeous hair! I’m from Birmingham in the UK, which I know this song isn’t about, but even so I like to pretend it is 😊 this one is very similar to Sheryl Crow both lyrically and musically, the whole album (and the two after) deserved more. Superb singer
Always loved this song - but it brings back some sad and melancholy memories from the year it came out. I'd hear it each night in power rotation on the radio while working alone on a graveyard shift. Felt like it was the end of the road at the time, that I'd hit bottom...and as much as I loved the song and the sound of Amanda's voice, the repetitiveness on the radio ingrained it as an anthem for my loneliness and depression at the time. Even today when I hear it...it takes me right back to that moment in time.

One of my favorite artists, loved her since she first came out. Saw her in concert 3 times, most recently at the Oxford Stomp in Calgary 2019. She still rocks and sounds great. I love this song and many others. Great Artist. 👍

I remember buying the single cassette tape at some store I don't remember where at! But thought the case sleeve was of a beautiful young lady with gorgeous hair! Thought I'd give the cassette a chance to hear what she sounded like! I'm glad I did! Her voice is so beautiful! I to this day don't know what happen to the tape! But am glad I found the video! Because I've never seen it before! So happy right now! 😍❤
I’m from Birmingham in the UK, which I know this song isn’t about, but even so I like to pretend it is 😊 this one is very similar to Sheryl Crow both lyrically and musically, the whole album (and the two after) deserved more. Superb singer

Always loved this song - but it brings back some sad and melancholy memories from the year it came out. I'd hear it each night in power rotation on the radio while working alone on a graveyard shift. Felt like it was the end of the road at the time, that I'd hit bottom...and as much as I loved the song and the sound of Amanda's voice, the repetitiveness on the radio ingrained it as an anthem for my loneliness and depression at the time. Even today when I hear it...it takes me right back to that moment in time.
