Covet are a math rock band from San Francisco, California. Featuring the talented Yvette Young, David Adamiak, and Keith Grimshaw, the trio have the technical precision of competent musicians while also maintaining the lush feel of post-rock and textural music. Having recently released a highly appraised album, the band is riding the momentum into the new year as they tour and continue to ramp up for their next release.
The last I saw of Yvette Young, a few years back, she was in her bedroom playing these awesome songs alone and seeking a band. I just remembered her name this morning and thought I'd see what she was up to these days. So glad to see her surrounded by people as talented as she is, making awesome music.
Antony Whitton lol fake ass story
mr wong are you joking? Go look at her yt channel
Yes good for her expanding her experience and finding people to play music with.
you think she was crazy then look at her now
This aged like fine wine
this song is comfy as fuck. love it
As much as I love this style of guitar it's really the bass player that sells me on this band. So hard to find a talented bass player in math rock.
And he's wearing a Dredg shirt!
the elephant gym bassist is actually the best bass player in math for me
Yan Américo Lobianchi da Cruz agreed. The first time I saw a live video of "Finger" I was blown away by her technique.
I'd say they they are all equally great. All complimenting each other.
I think theres alot more dope bassists in math rock than alot of other DIY rock scenes, Shiraz from Maps and Atlases, homie from Piglet, Delta Sleep bass player, Steve Marek (loose lips sink ships, Monobody)
I listen to large list of technical math rock ambient instrumental music on shuffle and sometimes I’m compelled to actually look to see who the hell is laying down such immense skills and I must say Covets name has come up a few times. It really is that profound.
Why is it your music always calms me down? Even when I'm feeling sad and lonely, I find a peace and calmness here. I'd love to see you guys live...
artknight99 I've seen them live like 3 days ago for me and they're fucking awesome
Honestly felt the same way when I first heard them.
@@kennytieshisshoes Me (old-timey classic rocker), starting listening to their latest album: Who is this? How is this even music. It's so, I dunno. Ew. I don't like it.
Me, after hitting repeat on the whole album three times: OK. I can accept this into my world. This is a good thing. I guess "guitar" can now include this.
This band was my intro into a whole world of guitar I didn't even know existed. Trying to explain to my wife: She uses both hands on the fretboard. Wife: Pshh, Eddie Van Halen did it. Me: Um, no. If EVH started over at the age of 10, he probably had enough raw talent to do what she is doing. Plus, Eddie didn't "invent" it either.
Mathrock is a lifelong addiction. I will always love this
This is absolutely insane, Yvette.
Still here in 2021! Why does this song just get better everytime you listen to it?
Just learned about these guys today, and have been blown away with just about every song I've checked out so far... smh Just simply amazing.
its so mathy and emotional
pretty impressed
Too beautiful sounding. Absolutly will take you away to another world.
This was great. Covet has a bright future :)
Would you say that this future is one a person could envy? Perhaps desire to obtain for themselves? Oh, what's the word I'm looking for . . .
I think you were right. They've come a long way and still just beginning to bloom.
Glad i found these guys today :)
The calming effect Coviet's music has on me never ceases to amaze.
she is great !
Dat bass groove
Yvette Young is my spirit animal
I'm glad you guys showed up on my youtube. Love you guys the minute I first heard your music.
this drummer is always angry...the current drummer is always happy
love em both
This band oozes talent
Just incredible!
love this band so much
Bassist rocking a Dredg shirt!! Props! Oh yea and this band is so amazing
I feel...I am...
I'm scared of the drummer...His glance almost got me killed
Damn nice music though!!!
Lovely.
This is really good! You guys rock!
these are the type of songs i would play in the background and sleep to. Such a chill track. ^.^
I think I can hear a bit of Yes influence in there. Masterful.
I feel ya, the bassist could pass as Chris Squire reincarnate!
So much talent in this
Fantastic!
Excellent work, Covet!
Amazing song, good performance
EPIC!!!!
Its beautiful
Just letting you know I read the Argus Newspaper (y'all are on the front page). The article brought me here. Have a blessed time in the Texas music Festival. Marvelous, professional playing. +++++++
This is my favorite out of the practice video
I really love this band. I've been following Yvette for a long time now. Very talented. I'd love to hear her throw some Violin lines on some of this stuff too.
Amazing as usual, and yeah Cyborg. I agree. They're elastic and precise. Yvette is one of the most unique players I've seen in a long time.
Awesome music, plus they got a forest elf to play the guitar for them.
Amazing work :)
A "One In Eight Billion" kind of woman.
Amazing! and wow no strandberg whatta surprize
Alex Kofman She's a Strandberg user now
Kinda feels like a great song to play on a yatch in the Caribbean sea
Iconic
Nice, I hadn't even known Yvette was in a band. :d
Wow this bass player kills it!!!!!!!!
Ahh i love Yvette Young.
reminds me of scale the summit
awesome
sounds awsome
I liked it.
How can you not like this wall of sound
Music for musicians
聞いててドキドキする。演奏の佇まいもキマってるね。
❤
well done u guys!
Nathan, I enjoy this live session more than the Audiotree live session.
Good fucking job, mate.
If you enjoy artsie-phartsie "prog rock" this is for you. I read a recent article in the SJ Metro about Covet. I had an idea how your music would sound, but still thought I'd check it out. A bunch of incredible technicians.
A lot of you act like this is disappointing because its supposed to be some epic, technically advanced, progressive song that trumps all others. It's just one fucking track. Not everything produced has to be the most insane and amazing thing ever. If you don't like it or the way they play their instruments then move the fuck on. Why waste so much time berating a band and artists that you think suck? Go listen to whatever you want
2022!
NICE.
Yvette, carrying the Torch.
mmm that bass
Oh my g-d
Cool
Sounds good guys! I respect this newer "keyboard" style of guitar playing(Stanley Jordan). A backing track with some vocal harmonies I think would bring a more "Human element" and a bigger sound, but this is not criticism at all, you guys sound great!
I totally agree, check out the band Invalids for some interesting pop-punk vocals & harmonies that I think really suit the genre well. This Town Needs Guns is another (more math-rock than this though) with an interesting use of vocals.
Robert Meyer uhm. there is a vocal backing track?
getting vibes of coral castle by enemies with the vocal layer during the first half
Fuck... im in love
I hardly recognize Yvette in this video! Her hair style is radically different now haha
1:37 is my favorite
Dude, get another crash. Awesome tune.
question from a non-drummer, why would that be helpful for him?
more variety in sound, could be useful in the more quieter or louder parts of the song.
theplumber thanks for the reply. i figured something like that was the case, but wasn't sure.
Well, it's subjective, so nobody is wrong and nobody is right. : )
Dude, get a life and stop being a douche
what is this genre called? it sounds like a lot of tones and textures i hear in mathrock but without the crazy time signature changes, i really like it
this IS mathrock/progressive rock
IS THAT BASSIST WEARING A DREDG SHIRT?!?!? I THINK HE IS! YAY DREDG!
Hello from Russia!)
Its good to see more female guitarists
They remind me Dif Juz quite a lot.
Is she looping? There are definitely two guitar parts in this song.
I'd like to see them live but i think that they will never come to México :'v
that DREDG shirt though!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are the vocals/other backing tracks drum triggered?
drummer looks like Jojo Mayer lol. soft drumming but tastefull, I love it
yvette actually was sombra for once
Dredg!
The background singing reminds me of the second half of Acceptance Speech
I.want to.Jam! ^_^
Chapman Stick ?
I'm in the sky.
I'm wandering there.
Drummer is very grimdark at 1:07
КРАСИВАЯ МУЗЫКА ...
fuck yeah dredg
uah! 💥🚀💥 🌜✨🌛 🐻👍👍👍
does she play in standard?
Not exclusively, the tuning for this is DADF#Ae
Her fingers are dancing
video sync is off. that or they are 'tip syncing (fingertips that is)
the drummer seems angry
he suffers a rare case of perpetual melancholy...
He's the inspiration for the song "One"
he remembered he has to do his god damn taxes
I wish I coulda show you a screenshot of his mug when I was reading your comment lmao
Lots of us do...he's just on the job√
Concentration coupled with playing an instrument that is actually a full body workout... lends it'self to looking down at the Drums & scowling. It's just natural.
Kinda like how many Keys/Strings players tend to contort their mouths, or even kind of Scat along with what they're playing ( I do that too ). It just has to do with the regions of the Brain being stimulated by the different types of concentration required by certain tasks.
If you ever take Trap lessons, some of the first things you're taught are to keep your head up & your face from scowling.
Percussionist here! Great tune! Around 1:10 there is some really impressive cymbal work going on that I heard.. it's so very light. I believe there needs to be some sort of mic adjustment or boost to the hi hat. All of that high pitched rhythmic clicking would sound even more boss if it were a little louder. Just my opinion. It's still easy to over do it too much.. don't turn it up too much. Find the sweet spot, keep rockin'.
is that a six string shes using? is this genre better played on a six sting or seven or higher? Im looking at a semi hollow telle but the only one i can afford is the six string.
She plays that on a six string.
This genre is better on seven strings or higher, but when the player is Yvette Young even a six strings sounds great!
She primarily uses a 7 string though.
She has certain songs (Like this one) that she uses a 6 string.
I play music very similar to this, and I used a 6 string semi-hollow Telecaster.
I've never felt the need for a 7 string, I just have a bass player. Haha.
It really depends on your needs and playing style. Especially in this genre, where different styles of voicings and unique choices of chords are essential for a good math rock band. If you ask a math rock musician what is the best type of guitar for their genre is, they'd laugh.
isn't that a TTNG drummer?
Anyone know what kind of equipment these guys are using? Seems kind of Jazzy..
looks like a couple of guitars and a drum set.
Go get thrown in a fucking trash fire.
what were you expecting
Models of Guitars, specific types of Pedals, brands of speakers and amps,
guitarist is using a fender american telecaster looks like a vintage 50's neck most likely using the soapbox neck pickup, you never see her amp thou, the basses is playing a american standard jazz bass with what looks like a carving cab and a 3 piece rack mont for the head a fender eq and dxr head, idk shit about drum sets but he's using a couple of zildjin a customs for his cymbals though it looks like there some other brands there 2.
Wait since when Skrillex played math rock?!
Tabs? or naw
