This is one of those songs that makes me cry and want to go to a museum all at once. This film was one of the many things that inspired me to become an anthropologist! :')
Castlevania series composer also said she likes Jerry Goldsmith soundtracks and this one is no exception, this is a great movie with a solid cast and with a serviceable sequel it's really a shame they did not make a sequel to that THERE IS NO TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR AND NO REBOOT !
This movie is so underrated in my opinion! The music alone evokes so many weighty subjects, like anguish, forbidden romantic love, loneliness, forgotten memories etc. Imhotep is such a tragic character I think and far more than just a typical villian.
I know right? Ok he killed the Pharaoh and I don't support that, but he done all of this for his Anksunamun. He actually did love her and the movie shows how much he was willing to sacrifice for her. I feel sorry to the poor guy tbh...
I couldn't agree more. Your comment also perfectly summarizes why Imhotep's characterization is far superior to that of Ahmanet in the 2017 reboot. There's no denying that both of them were badass villains in their own right, but while Ahmanet was essentially a generic take-over-the-world villain seeking revenge for being denied the throne of Egypt, Imhotep clearly deviates from the generic villain formula by acting entirely out of love for Anck-su-namun rather than any of the conventional villain motives (revenge, world domination, etc.). Heck, the only time Imhotep ever really wanted to take over the world (going after the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns) was not to take it for himself but rather to please Anck/Meela, since that was what she and the cult she'd aligned with wanted; if not for that fact, chances are Imhotep wouldn't have even cared. Although Imhotep's purely love-based motives are not unique to the 1999 version per se (having been carried over from the 1932 version), the 1999 version built on them really well and did a great job of making Imhotep both a clear villain and a genuinely tragic figure.
@@LittleMissRequiem so true and yet the reason why Imhotep was far more tragic than Ahmanet was because Tom Cruise wrecked The Mummy with his ego which I am not surprised at being how R. Lee Ermey said that it was Tom Cruise's ego that wrecked Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut. But you did hit the nail on the head on what you said.

Proud of being a descendant of the Pharaohs, whose civilization is still a great mystery and attracting whoever is adventurous and obsessed with such an era.

The remake is a monstrosity as it practically strips away the Egyption mystical elements that we are familiar with and in its place a totally made up alien origin story of the Mummy that has no Egyption symbolism at all. It didnt help that the spotlight was on Tom Cruise and the hamfisting of unnecessary origin of Dr Jekyl - with the Mummy becoming an after thought. Trully a failure in every sense and not surprising it flopped worse than Mummy 3.
Just getting back from Egypt. I visited the Pyramids and the Sphinx in Giza. Had this theme running through my head as I filmed the panoramic view of the Pyramids. Breath taking. I was starting to choke up a bit.

I admire his music, including John Williams and Hans Zimmer.
