From the Netherlands, thank you so much for letting us share in the beauty and history of that astonishing old island, which we love so much overhere for the humor, gardening, castles, language, books and what not all. Great that you make these lovely video's!
As others have said already it is really a treat for all of us to visit these charming and possibly "new to us" quaint villages. The buildings are so nicely preserved and it is a credit to everyone involved who keep them so in tact and some, still in use. I have to agree with you however that seeing a car park inside the square or in "prime position" within the villages is such an eyesore. I suppose we have to be tolerant, cars are a necessity of modern life - but........just wish there was a more esthetic solution. xx
Thank you for the lovely comment. Yes the cars are a pain but particularly here there is very little space in chilham for them to park otherwise. As you say a pain for us as viewers but they do have to live there and if it were me, i would also want to be able to park outside my own home or very close.
I have to say it was another subscriber that introduced me to Chilham and its link to the film. Thats the great thing about our little community on youtube, people come up with suggestions we are not aware of and this one was a cracker!
You have done a wonderful job of giving us a tour these little villages . Absolutely beautiful. Certainly hope I can visit these places in person one day . Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
Beautiful village & town. Love the Tudor style homes. Wish the castle had been open to the public for you to enter and film. We look forward to your video every week, if not every day. Sorry, Simon. We're spoilt by you. LOL
Yes it was a shame that it closed but someone has commented on instagram that it might open again next year so if it does we will head back for a look around.
Absolutely Stunning as always and another village to visit on my ever growing list although it is a shame the centre of the village is now a car park sort of spoils the ambiance 😂thank you for sharing
Another story book village. Thank you so much for these videos & the research you do on the history of the places you go. You are my favorite subscription!😊
We will travel the UK next year, with our motorhome. Thank you so much, for a lot of inspirations, background-storys and so much lovely pictures. We can‘t wait to start our journey. Tommy from N.Germany
I would like to travel around UK in a motorhome, Will is not so keen. 😢 Hope you have a wonderful adventure. Great to hear our videos have given you ideas on where to head! Have fun.
Thank you. This was a lovely tour. I'm sorry that you could not find out more about Chilham, but thanks so much for all you do. You brighten my day when you upload.
That is nice to hear Diana, thank you. Yes it was a tricky one to find out what buildings were formally for very little info available that we could find.
Loved the opening fog in Kent village in Chilham . Turned out to be a beautiful day to visit, loved it . Take care Sir and thanks again for sharing your video with us.👍👍
Yes it did turn out well. At first I thought, oh no this will ruin the footage but actually it added a lovely dimension to the filming when we edited the footage. Quite happy how it turned out. Thanks for watching.
Chilham is worth a visit … it really is, I used to go hop picking just along the road from the village, The pub used to serve their beer to the East Enders in jam jars because we kept Nicking them …. Great memories for me .. My childhood holidays … etc.
Your videos are absolutely wonderful and I wish good luck to you in this case... Hello from Uzbekistan..from Central Asia.. P.s I ready for the next towns
More than I dream of these places... so stunning & perfect village, I love the buildings & narrow lanes.. streets are so clean & well managed, definitely added to my travel list. Thank u for sharing such an amazing video 👏 with wonderful storyline
Simon and Will…my favourite “time travellers.” Chilham is stunning. Especially love the quaint primary school. Looks like you picked the perfect time of day to film. Love the sound of the birds in the background. You are hands down my favourite UA-cam channel. Thanks so much!! Stay well! 🙏❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Hello Jill, thank you for the lovely comment. So glad you enjoyed the walk around, the mist added a nice mysterious dimension to the morning. It was a peaceful time of day. So nice to hear you enjoy our channel. 😊🤗
I remember visiting chilham castle and the village as a young boy with my father and uncle... Both sadly gone now , but wow what lovely memories.. beautiful place to visit ... That's on my bucket list to go back there one day ...
Another great video bringing us to places where by while I can't go!!!! I love so much to see this type of historic tiny villages. To know the person's who build it. It's fascinating to see how well they are conserved. 😃
I loved this video......as a child I lived not too far away. and my Mum was almost a local....now I live very much in a different environment....But this has brought back very happy memories...Thank You.
A foggy English morning amidst a Tudor Era town. What a treat! I noticed very few (if any) thatched roofs. In general the half-timber buildings seemed much less catywampus and crooked than I expected based on their age. Perhaps in such a small town they have been occupied and/or maintained continuously? Or maybe the lower walls are brick instead of timber construction? Chilham is indeed charming. Thank you for the tour!
I will definitely visit Chilham because my 3x great grandfather originated from there where his relatives and father, especially, held farms and owned buildings in Chilham, including Cumberland House. My 3x great grandfather migrated to Tasmania and there began the new line of Dennes who have a very long historical connection with Kent. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you.
Haya. Such a beautiful atmosphere you caught going out in the early morning with the mist, adds that little extra eeriness especially around the cemetery & older buildings. Thanku so much for sharing. x
Какие красивые здания, какая изумительно ровная кладка из красного кирпича. Сейчас так не строят. Многие здания были когда то разрушены, поэтому частично перестроены, а некоторые плотно,, вросли,, в землю. Спасибо Вам, было очень интересно.
I enjoy your videos very much, I get to travel anytime I want from my chair. Hopefully, I'll get to visit England again someday. I appreciate how your historical buildings are kept & used, not torned down like the are over here in the US. I would love to live in an English village or an Irish village (I'm of Irish decent). Thank you again for these videos & history lessons.
Another wonderful, atmospheric and lovely walk with you…which I really appreciate. You do a wonderful job of narrating, choosing interesting and charming historic spots and enhancing it all with lovely music. Kudos to you both. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. The fog really added a mysterious dimension that turned our really well. It was a lovely crisp morning. So glad you enjoy the channel.
I grew up in Chilham. Went to the local School (St Mary's). The High Street had a Grocers, Butchers, Full time Post Office and a Newsagents. The Cumberland House was used by Henry the VIII as a hunting lodge..!
Thank you for this stunning video. I always follow you to know hiden the english villages and improve my English. I'm from Rome, Italy and I have been living in Newcastle Upon Tyne so far away from these two gorgeous tiny towns. Take care.
Thank you for watching, glad to hear you find them of interest and helpful. We have been up in Yorkshire filming recently so those videos will be closer to you. 😊

We love your videos of old English buildings. Brings back memories when we walked the Coast2Coast 2015. We just don't have old history in New Zealand like you do in the UK.
Lovely video very quiet there must of been an early morning walk . I grew up in Newent Gloucestershire another very small town we were always told it was the smallest town but as you said many claim to be , if you haven' t been to Newent it worth a look , it has some good history you also have Ledbury and Dymock near by , in fact Dymock is one of the best places to see the wild daffodils in the UK . Thanks again for video.
I think it was around 7 or 8am, before we headed to Canterbury to cover the Cathedral. Thanks for the tips, I have put them on our travel map so we don't miss them when in the area! 😊
@@MemorySeekers I can send you a couple of hidden gems in and around the area also I big one not so hidden , if its ok with you I will send to your email but I like to ask first. Thanks.
what a lovely video to wake up to. I just forgot to leave a comment. Such a beautiful village. I'd be happy in any one of those magnificent homes. Did you make it to Chavenage House yet?
Not yet but have it in the map to visit. We were in Tetbury last month but it was an early Sunday morning before the house was open and we had other plans. We will go at some point for sure.
FYI, The Fordwich Arms is one of the few Michelin-starred restaurants (1 star) in the Canterbury area - I plan on visiting it for dinner when I visit Canterbury this summer!
@@MemorySeekers I just came back from my UK trip, and visited Canterbury on my own as a day trip from London via train a week ago! I got an anytime ticket from London to Sturry using the Southeastern Railway, and was able to "break" my journey in Canterbury. I started off the day in Canterbury at the King's Corner for lunch, which is a lovely cafe with some Turkish and Uzbek dishes. I spent the next 5.5 hours exploring the sites, including St. Martin's Church, St. Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury Cathedral, Eastbridge Hospital, and the Franciscan Gardens. I then took the Southeastern train one stop to Sturry, and walked 0.6 miles (0.9 km) through Sturry and Fordwich to get to the restaurant. Since my train arrived at 5:16 PM, I had enough time to stop and take a few photos of the sites, including the one-lane bridge over the Great Stour River, the Fordwich Town Hall, the Fordwich Arms, and the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. The church building itself was closed, but the outside of the property was open. I had a 6:00 PM reservation at the restaurant, and was assured when making the reservation that I would be able to partake in the tasting menu and be out of there by 8:15 PM to catch my 8:32 PM train back to London. I got there around 5:45 PM, washed my face, ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail at the bar, and was seated inside just before 6:00 PM. Due to the threat of rain that evening, the patio/terrace was only open for pre-dinner bar seating. It would have been lovely to sit out there, and as it turned out it didn't rain at all during the time I was seated inside (I had a window with an obstructed view of the river). The server did ask if I wanted the window open during the meal service, and I happily said yes, as it allowed cool air inside the building. The food itself was delicious and presented beautifully. I did the full tasting (including the optional langoustine/lobster course), which came out to around $200 USD (£155) including a £3 non-alcoholic ginger beer. With the quality of the food and service, I felt that the price was reasonable. The food kept getting better as the courses rolled along - the bread and butter service was delicious, the duck liver parfait course (with warm doughnuts) was an amazing combination that I wouldn't have even thought of, the langoustine course (lobster "three ways") was a great addition, and the meat entree (38 day aged rib of Hereford beef with peppercorn sauce, glazed shortrib) was outstanding. Dessert was excellent as well, and was a 3-course affair, with a small strawberry "pre-dessert", along with outstanding chocolate course. The final petit four was a small chocolate bar with coffee flavoring, which sat in a small chest sitting on coffee beans. While the courses were small, there were many of them and I was full by the end of the dinner. I discreetly checked my phone during the dessert course, and reminded my server that I needed to catch the train. I saw it was running 6 minutes late, and ended up leaving the restaurant at 8:20 PM, making it to the train station at 8:30 PM with 8 minutes to spare. The train was a non-express train, and I transferred at Ashford International to an express train, making it to St. Pancras station just before 10:00 PM. I am glad I visited Canterbury & The Fordwich Arms, and consider the whole day to be one of the highlights of my 2.5 week trip in England!
Yet again a lovely tour, I love seeing these villages. Some of those streets must be a driving challenge. What exactly do the listings on buildings mean? And also what was the lovely bacground music to this video? Thanks again, Cheers Cheryl 🙂
The background music was:- Behind the Fog - Claude Signet Neptune - Bonnie Grace Robin - S.A. Karl If a building is listed as Grade I, this is because the site is of exceptional national, architectural or historical importance. A Grade II listed building is defined as a UK building or structure that is "of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve it 😊
Yes it was a chilly 7am and as we were filiming in other Kent places that day, Canterbury and the Cathedral it was an early start to the day, to fit it all in.

Behind the Fog - Claude Signet
Neptune - Bonnie Grace
Robin - S.A. Karl
If a building is listed as Grade I, this is because the site is of exceptional national, architectural or historical importance.
A Grade II listed building is defined as a UK building or structure that is "of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve it

Do you go out early in the morning? No people?
Yes it was a chilly 7am and as we were filiming in other Kent places that day, Canterbury and the Cathedral it was an early start to the day, to fit it all in.
@@MemorySeekers I loved to travel but at my age it is never going to happen again. I get great pleasure from seeing your videos.
