It's disturbing, especially when you think about people who have found themselves in a situation legally who didn't have the floodlight that was shining in this case, or the means to hire top notch attorneys as Karen did.
My guess is they're sitting in jail.
I wonder if some jurors felt that the weeks of prosecution witnesses meant there was a lot of evidence and that the defence presented little, that is, the jurors depended on impressions rather than analysis. Distressed - no untainted evidence. Clearly, as many people say I think KR factually innocent.
She self reported first day. I believe her. Guilty manslaughter. All day. Her Dad and dui lawyer. If she never returned to scene, like many guilty do, she would have got away with it. All day and they know.

Don't tell me someone is that ignorant to think if a person was struck by an auto at approx. 24 mph there would be no bruising and broken bones? We are not made of rubber, if a vehicle no matter the size strikes someone at that speed they will have broken something and of course bruising from the initial impact and then when they strike the ground also. Everyone at some point in their life has banged into something and suffered a bruise, you don't have to be a doctor to realize that.
Just that alone is enough doubt, not to mention all the other improper police work, etc. To me that indicates someone on that jury had it in for Karen regardless of the mountain of doubt and scientific proof that she did not hit him with her vehicle. Absolutely disgracefull.

@@lashaun333 yes. Paul O'Keefe got an OUI (DUI) after leaving a country club one late afternoon drunk and hitting a person. He was going about the same speed that Karen was going so he knows the quality and extent of injures that occur. Anyway Karen bailed him out. Can you imagine the irony?

I've heard the reporters in court saying it's often hard to hear because of the AC/fans and jury has only one screen too small for how far away it is to look at. They literally may not see or hear as well as we can... Sure they have all the evidence to look at in the end, but it's not as effective as seeing it clearly in real time.
I blame Massachusetts. Like Melanie said in one of her videos ... they allow ury to take notes, but also mention to them "it's hard to take notes and pay attention." They don't offer transcripts, nor read backs of testimony. That's a mess! With days of testimony, and so many people on the stand, how the heck do you not miss something? I'm a member of a Facebook page for this case, an all opinions welcome page so it's not one sided ... and you'd be surprised how many people argue their opinion ... and they quote things that were never said. Like: "Karen admitted she hit something on the lawn!: Um "on the lawn?" That was never said. Or they say thing like "The medical examiner said he was hit by a car." Um, no. The medical examiner said that John died of blunt force trauma and hypothermia, but the manner of death is undetermined.
Massachusetts needs to get with the times ... we need transcripts. I bet if the jury could have gotten certain transcripts to review, this wouldn't be a hung jury.
Juror #3, alternate juror just spoke out to CBS Boston 25 and said she did not think the CW proved their case. She said on the record that she would have been a Not Guilty

Wait til these jurors hear everything they don't know, weren't allowed to hear.
Here are two things the jury didn't hear that they should have:
The federal government spent tons of money, time, and resources. They got Grand Jury testimony from Brian Albert, Brian Higgins, Trooper Proctor and who knows how many other people. They got phone records and text messages. They likely conducted wire taps of individuals we know of and don't know of. They investigated a lot of people that were NOT Karen Read. The Grand Jury is over. How do we know? Because the DOJ has NO Obligation and would not have released that 3,000 page report if the grand jury was still standing. The grand jury would have had to issue indictments BEFORE ending. They did not. The US Attorney's Office is on the record stating that Brian Albert and Brian Higgins are not targets of their investigation. All of this is extremely likely to have influenced the jury to believe Karen did it. Why can't the lawyers mention the federal public corruption investigation to the jury? It would be too prejudicial AGAINST Karen Read.
We did not hear from Karen's brother who is seen on video brushing snow off her SUV EXCEPT for Passenger tail light. Why didn't the Defense put him on the stand to testify that the tail light was not in the same condition as sally port photo? He would have been the BEST Defense witness with direct knowledge of evidence. Instead, they called individuals that had no direct knowledge and only testified with expert opinion.
These two things, not heard by jury would likely prove her guilt.
Sources now say the jury split was 10 guilty 2 not guilty. I won't believe anything not confirmed, but the DA immediately saying they are going to re-try shows they are confident. Also, the judge and lawyers do know the jury split. Also, the lawyers were seeing the jurors eyes and ONLY the Defense wanted a mistrial declared early.

What is troubling to me is this is even a hung jury at all, and I have serious doubts if this system even works. What I saw was shoddy/biased policework, sloppy investigations, incoherent and poorly qualified experts by the prosecutors. Plenty of counter evidence from the defense; better, more qualified and believable experts, conflicting timelines of events. What more did this jury want? What would it have taken to get a guilty verdict? It's as though the standard for reasonable doubt has been elevated to unrealistic levels. Maybe we need to be looking at a jury of experts, not peers. People see what they want to see and disregard the rest, no matter how damning the evidence. I believe that is what happened here. People dug in on both sides. There is no reason for it to be this lopsided.

I just have to say that I am very thankful that any jury was able to stand on their own principles in regards to the actual evidence and firm in their belief that there was no proof that Karen Read caused John O’Keefe‘s death. My heart feels for his family, however, I would much rather there be a mistrial, then an innocent person going to prison for potentially the rest of their lives

I’m in CO and am one to keep an open mind in watching trials all the way to the end. In this case, when I saw the Leaf Blower and Red Solo Cups being used as “Evidence Collection” and listening to their excuse as to why they didn’t go to the office that was just minutes away….yet one drove a similar distance to get the Leaf Blower….Zero sense could be made of that. Then claiming they didn’t have the supplies at the Police Station?! How about calling Crime Scene Investigators as is normally done? Oh wait, forgot for a second there that the whole point was to avoid standard operating procedure!

You know what pisses me off more than anything..How many people in these youtube broadcasts have tried like hell to get out of jury duty? This jury is proof that the jury pool is so screwed up because so many people with common sense get out of jury duty!!! I have always Believed that even through the worst unimaginable situations, people are brought together for a reason! And even through the darkest of life changing tragedies those whom have been touched by tragedy, often it can bring so much positive attention to bring folks together, to raise positive Awareness and seek the truth and Justice! Heartbreaking beyond words that John lost his life so brutally, yet due to this tragedy it has opened a massive hole into the corruption that many are unaware of. I believe once the individuals who are responsible and are brought to Justice, that John will finally be able to rest.. 🙏🏼💙 Praying that it will also help open the door to also seek the Truth behind other cases, as well begin the process to remove corrupt individuals throughout. Even for the hundreds of thousands of folks who didn't know Karen or John, it certainly has touched so many, watching the evidence unfold, it became clear as day that it "IS" a cover-up, leaving a chill through your soul hearing the horrible way these folks spoke about not only another human being, but knowingly as an "INNOCENT" persons life hangs in the balance, pur Evil! If the CW does retry, I hope the defense is on Lally like a fly on 💩 and not let him get away with all the leading questions. Something needs to happen.
The problem was the bias of the judge. I think the defence lawyers worked as well as they could given the judge's conduct. I am sure they had to approach the case with a view to working the boundaries set by the judge. Still, I enjoyed Alan Jackson's justifiably and barely suppressed contempt for her at times.

The 1st Trigger Event which is the 3 point turn on Cedarcrest Rd, between Fairview and Snowflake Ln was 8 minutes earlier @ 12:22. This is also when they say John's phone was asending/descending 3 flights at 138 Dedham St.

I came into this as a juror, no outside information. I fully believe Karen didn't do it!

I have a hard time believing all 12 jurors successfully were able to not be exposed to the public reporting of the case or never spoke about the case to their husband or wife or whomever they go home to at the end of each day. But this is clearly speculating so I'm trying very hard to believe they were able to follow the instructions given by the judge throughout the trial.

I believe even if the Commonwealth thinks it will get always mistrial as many times as allowed by law or lose, they will continue to Prosecute Karen Reed to ’stick it’ to her financially, emotionally and healthily.

That the CW had such a quick response regarding retrying Karen Read is ridiculous. They have real problems with Proctor and his boss Buchenik. They have problems with the inverted video, and if you really look at how many drinks Karen had, Lally lied or trooper Paul counted the drinks for Lally.
I’m not even going into the civilian witnesses who had credibility issues. They now have 4 different times that they have testified and each time they have changed their story.
The defense just needs to clean up a couple of things, get rid of the grab 🍑 argument (that was silly) and explain the jury instructions better during closing arguments. I think they need to ask for a change of venue to Boston.
I agree but a change of venue will take time. I am sure Karen Read wants an early a resolution as possible.
Awesome coverage Melanie! I think a mistrial in this corrupt county is a huge win. I’d like to know the chain of custody of the jurors’ notebooks. The dismissal of a juror and the 2 alternates / chosen Foreman situation....leaves me with questions regarding the chain of custody and security of those notebooks.
