I read a column by a journalist, who stated because he had suffered with depression, he wouldn't be watching it. I think he's wrong to think that, it's like a free session with a shrink, that gets it all out. Brilliant Ricky, thankyou.
just for people looking to watch: This is not a typical Ricky Gervais production It may start off a bit slow but the more you watch the more emotions you feel. Trust me. you want to watch this. This is one of the best feel good productions i have ever seen and somehow humor and wittiness is so common. Watch this.
Absolutely brilliantly written acted by the whole crew. Ricky Gervais a genius in his imagination and writing. Kerry, oh my, what a wonderful portrayal of the perfect woman ❤❤❤. 10/10 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏 to all who helped create this marvellous series.
Got recommended this series a few hours ago. Just finished season 1, just started season 2. I really enjoyed watching it, funny but sad too. Brilliant characters and well done. Ricky Gervais is a genius.
Amazing how polarizing this show is . You have to be the kind of individual who specifically looks for shows like these I think. Gentle , poignant, somewhat uplifting with its moments of hope. The occasional use of lighthearted humour can make it somehow feel more tolerable when we are facing a battle such as he is. It makes you cry but at the same time makes you feel like you too can maybe make it through another day. I thought it’s been a pleasant little show thus far . I’m grieving the loss of a loved one right now and this makes me feel so not alone . Crying and laughing …… it’s not a bad thing for someone needing the support . I just have to update this- just watched another episode. Yeah ….. delightful. Ricky Gervais wrote something with an amount of humility to it. I love it .
For anybody who thinks of watching this i recommend it so much it has the perfect balance between comedy and sadness and heartbreak so well written one of the best shows iv'e seen i think thank you Ricky and the crew what a masterpiece!😢❤
I came across this today. I just lost my Dad back in May, and much of this trailer is hitting home for me. I am going to start this series tonight. I am hoping to get some sort of life clarity from it.
Simply amazing. ❤️ The talk Ricky Gervais has with the lady in Graveyard was the zen moment of realisation and reconciliation in his life. “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
I have been binchewatching 3 seasons in two days. Never have laughed and cried so much! Very very emotional! Really great! My sister has cancer and will die in a few weeks from now.....this series helped me to cry......😢🧡
I love this show, I'm so glad another season is coming. I can't get enough. He goes from suicidal, to being the reason his entire network is NOT suicidal. His wife, Lisa, is telling us all how to keep it together. We need that! 💘
Grief is complex. My husband's been pushing up daisy's for 30 year's now. Something I've learned is there's no time limit on grief and waves that washes over you can come out of nowhere. I've learned to ride the waves and allow the grief to wash over me. Something I've learned it's okay to not understand how to live without someone you love. Life never teaches us how to let go. I remember when my grandma died she could've lived to be a hundred and still would've been too soon. I'm glad that she left on her terms she didn't want anyone taking care of her. No matter how many deaths I've experienced in my life including my husband's while I was feeling our son kicking. No matter how painful the loss life is always still kicking around us. And the loss of my children losing their father without even a picture of my son and his father. Still haunts me being a mother not being able to be their father and take away the loss they still experience. I felt I wasn't enough because he was gone couldn't even talk to my son about puberty. That's when I missed my husband the most, was when my son struggled with things I could never understand as a woman. I finally got to see my father son picture when my son became a father. Life never is fair but it does give us a reason to live. Even when we can't understand why. Thanks for being open about your grief this series will help others thank you.
Literally finding myself crying at times at the honesty in this show. I begin to realize how lucky I am to be married to a wonderful woman , like Lisa.
I was all in from the first episode and just kept going; some moving moments quickly moved to my tummy hurting laughter. Thought provoking and covers everything; regret, grief, remorse, hope, and some of the most raw humour, even for RG. I'll watch it again.
Revisiting this Season and Can't believe I'm still being moved to tears 24 YEARS after losing my partner to cancer. She died in 1997 and you think it's all sweet and then watch Afterlife and it seems to resurrect the Love and Pain that's hidden deep within your Soul. I guess you never get over it but just learn to live with loss. Happy Saturday from Lockdown 3 Middle Earth
@@Lynxchillin08 Well, Ricky Gervais has a great track record in both sitcom and stand-up and even though the trailer was badly edited, the jokes in it was still funny.
James Docherty You thinking his father’s blonde caregiver? They barely spoke a word to one another, if at all, in the trailer, but I came away with a similar feeling about it.
Thank you Ricky Gervais for that beautiful gem of a serie!! I laughed and cried and loved every minutes of it!!! Wished it will keep going and going and going but there s an end to everything!
Ricky gervais is an absolute legend, this program is hilarious but also heartbreaking, seems so real, the characters are once again SUPERB, Thankyou Ricky & Netflix 👍🏻
Wasn't a Ricky Gervais fan before but this has completely changed that. Best thing I've seen on Netflix I think. The complete lack of care whether you live or not is something I live with. Amazing to see another human living that even if it is just acting
I just started watching this and it is probably the best show I’ve ever seen. No matter what everyone’s going through something. And you’re not the only one. Small act of kindness can make people’s life much better. You can never judge people by how you see them. You gotta judge people by how you should see them and everyone has their own story to tell and their stories should be heard.
I've just finished this masterpiece. I really can't find the right adjective to express how it was. I was crying like a baby in a moment, and two minutes later I was laughing at a joke. The atmosphere was changing all the time, so does the life. Absolutely brilliant. Ricky Gervais did another life changing experience for the people. Again.
Nora Barkai In my 63 years I have not encountered such brilliance as Ricky’s work. He has the most incredible incite and the ability to touch people in a way that is rare indeed. His dry humour is so identifiable with so many people. This man , in my opinion is nothing short of genius , and the careful casting of the people he has to work with him compliments his work superbly. Have just finished watching this series for the third time and have just cried my heart out again!!!
I started watching this with mediocre anticipation but was blown to pieces as it's the most BEAUTIFUL series I've seen in like FOREVER ❤️ It's just got every single emotion you could have and it made me laugh, cry, ponder life and it's just absolutely FABULOUS and it's truly enhanced my day, week, life, Thank you Ricky Gervais ❤️ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 🤟
You are so fucking wrong. Life's too short, Derek, Special Correspondents, David Brent, life on the road, and now after life are all poorly written awful shit fest's.
@@goonigoogoo5868 How about this: noone:... absolutely noone:... some guy on yt: I think GG were funny Ricky: hold my beer.. GG: Am I a joke to you? Ricky: Haven't you hear the one with you up my ass? Legend has it Ricky still holds to his GG.
I can relate to so much of what he's going through on this show, but on a different level.. Being 41, and coming to the grand realization that I've had nobody, nobody has ever believed in me, and the few that did, I've managed to let down. I feel too worthless to bother trying to get anyone cuz I'm unattractive, jobless, on disability, bad dental hygiene (missing half my teeth) .etc. I've got good sides too, but those only (mostly) come out when I'm feeling good, but I feel like shit all the time.. It's like, in order to reach my potential, I'd need someone to actually believe in me, and stick around through the bad stuff, to get to the good stuff. Therapy isn't going to help, putting on a lapse of confidence before reality smacks me in the face again, isn't going to help. Corona isn't going away.. I'm just at my wit's end.. Unlike Ricky's character, I've never really been loved, or felt loved for a prolonged period of time in my life. So the question, is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all; it's actually wrong in what it's asking. Because the good feeling we get isn't from loving someone, it's from being loved, and feeling loved, and that's why we in turn love the person back. I have struggled with the alternative question; 'is it better to have been loved, and lose that, then never to have been loved at all?'. And I think it would come down to how long you were with the person. If you were with the person for 40-50 years, and then they passed, well, then you've had a good run of it, but the concept of never having felt that, or of everything you've felt having been a lie; imho, that's the worst thing ever.. How do you live with yourself, when the only value you've ever had in this world, is imaginary? PS: Like Ricky, I'm a realist, so please don't come at me with that "god loves you" crap. Thx. Religion has it's place, and it's mostly in insane asylums.
You've made me stop & think about "the question" well, i believe it would be different as u said from one person to another, or how long or how intimate the relationship was. To consider my answer as one of the many answers that could occur. i've only loved/ been loved once & breaking up had me traumatized, along with anxiety, locking up from the world & many other mental issues that i cannot heal from after 3 years. So yeah, although comments indicate the show is great i don't think i'll be watching, can't handle it. At least now now.
Watched all episodes in one sitting it was compulsive viewing. Gervase nails this perfectly. A good friend of mine lost his wife in 2017 to cancer. Every day still he's on the edge. Everything Ricky portrays in this series could be my friend and I'm sure many others will relate.
@@BeanVIII I see. I thought there would be a second season and probably a Chritmas special as he always does but after watching it, I don't see how this would continue.
@@jovenfrantzborigas4554 Nooooo, glad I can clear that up. I loved it, saw it twice already but I don't see how there could be a second series. It finished the way it should finish and making another one would be strange and possibly very wrong. I would love it but I am sure Ricky also thinks this. It is just perfect the way it is. Go watch it and you'll see.

This show is absolutely brilliant. Balanced perfectly with human emotions that hit me personally in a way that I have never experienced before. Profoundly good
I read a column by a journalist, who stated because he had suffered with depression, he wouldn't be watching it. I think he's wrong to think that, it's like a free session with a shrink, that gets it all out. Brilliant Ricky, thankyou.
just for people looking to watch:
This is not a typical Ricky Gervais production
It may start off a bit slow but the more you watch the more emotions you feel. Trust me. you want to watch this.
The irony of it all that's Ricky Gervais 100% he's not acting at all just being his normal self.
i can see that lol... That's also way i think its weird and cool.
Except that Ricky's one of the happiest people...he's just brash. His laugh is infectious!
The only thing he hates more than himself is his audience.
I recommend you watch his other Netflix show Derrick, it's weird watching him be so nice.
You dont know him. None of us do
This is the first time this year I’ve been excited for a netflix original
Wow, someone thanking the crew. That's rare. But very cool 👏🏽
@@AthyDuGard Yeah they deserve it!
I came across this today. I just lost my Dad back in May, and much of this trailer is hitting home for me. I am going to start this series tonight. I am hoping to get some sort of life clarity from it.
Simply amazing. ❤️
The talk Ricky Gervais has with the lady in Graveyard was the zen moment of realisation and reconciliation in his life.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
I have been binchewatching 3 seasons in two days. Never have laughed and cried so much! Very very emotional! Really great! My sister has cancer and will die in a few weeks from now.....this series helped me to cry......😢🧡
loved it! depicts very well a person in grief and his journey dealing with it...absolute masterpiece...
Brilliant antidepressant of a show! Absolutely brilliant.
It was so good
I feel like I cried every episode
Jchengcc same here
That means it's bad.
@Your Mother
Watch your language mother
Same😭
My wife and I binged this. We thought this show was brilliant. Ricky should be very proud. Huge thumbs up.
Hilarious and quietly moving. Love it to tears in so many ways.
The three first episodes of this show just made me want to try his joint.
He seems so peaceful, and at ease.
Probably Ricky's best work... Surprisingly deep and very emotional hope he makes another series
Such warmth and genuine sadness wrapped in sadistic humour which never crosses the line to detract from the theme of his sorrow.
Ricky should host the Oscars
1 day before the oscars "old tweets of ricky fat shaming people from 1995 were found, ricky gets kicked from the oscars"
@@gameboi5476 lmao
Oscar couldn't even handle Seth Macfarlane, Ricky would be too much for them.
@@rakibul27rabby to be fair seth is a savage
@@gameboi5476 then they find out it was just Ricky looking in the mirror.
Halfway through the series and it's incredible! keep writing and directing your shows Ricky! You are a genius at it.
The flashbacks in this show showcase what a beautiful life is! The way they laughed together is the best part of this show. That is love 😢🙏😘
Yes,Netflix. For more Ricky Gervais and less (much less) Adam Sandler
Just came here to say, after I've seen the series 3'rd time I think, it's just.....I cried at every episode, it's beautiful!
Literally finding myself crying at times at the honesty in this show. I begin to realize how lucky I am to be married to a wonderful woman , like Lisa.
ricky, this is the best so far, its PERFECT.
yes
Happy Saturday from Lockdown 3 Middle Earth
not gonna lie the trailer is meh but The show is going to be 10/10.
Agreed, the trailer makes it look like some 2008 rom-com, but it'll probably be great.
If not the trailer and what you just saw, then what makes you think it will be 10/10 ?
@@Lynxchillin08 Well, Ricky Gervais has a great track record in both sitcom and stand-up and even though the trailer was badly edited, the jokes in it was still funny.
the sad music playing over top of the jokes, just made the whole thing feel sad.
James Docherty
You thinking his father’s blonde caregiver?
Ricky is a living legend. One of most talented, beautiful blokes on planet.
Best show I’ve watched in years - rice pudding and baked bread - haven’t laughed that much in years.
Another master stroke from Ricky.... Genius. Thanks for making this.
I've just watch the whole thing and I would urge anyone to watch it. It is absolutely brilliant, his best work yet.
Honestly, what a bloody brilliant watch this was.
1 of the best british shows in such a long time hits every emotion possible
Maggie from Extras; Kev and Hannah from Derek and Ricky Gervais all together again? Amazing. Now we just need Mr Dilkington :)
I think Karl would have been good playing the drug addict part or even the postman but both actors were good tbf
Anything Ricky does is gold. ANYTHING.
He's a genius
You are so fucking wrong. Life's too short, Derek, Special Correspondents, David Brent, life on the road, and now after life are all poorly written awful shit fest's.
I’m a huge Ricky fan , loved this show , congrats to all the actors appearing, can’t wait for season 2
Just watched the whole series again. Genius.
Who else is here after the Golden Globes? Just me? Oh cool..
Me too
👍
And who else is disappointed ;-)
"who else is here because"...........is that the new thing to state on every youtube post? cant come up with something different or witty?
@@goonigoogoo5868 How about this:
noone:...
absolutely noone:...
some guy on yt: I think GG were funny
Ricky: hold my beer..
GG: Am I a joke to you?
Ricky: Haven't you hear the one with you up my ass?
Legend has it Ricky still holds to his GG.
Joe Wilkinson has the best little cameo in this. Solid gold. Great series.
Thoros of Myr!!
And Walder Frey

It is actually Dennis Pennis if you are from the UK and over 35.

Ricky is the legend
Ricky Gervais is a genius! Every character he creates is acted out so well by him!
absolute gem of a show, it’s very bitter sweet
Probably the best tv ive seen absolute quality the mans a genius
Sad funny powerfull a must watch
Pure genius. Thank God for creating him.
It's the guy from Extras! "the wig, the glasses, the catchphrase... Everything!"
I don’t know how you recognised that
Sobering Hilarity! Well done.
I see Ricky Gervais ...I click.
Ricky Gervais is my spirit animal.
Loved this, Ricky Gervais is a very talented writer. I watched the whole thing in one day.
this show jumped him instantly up to one of my favorite writers...ever
Ricky Gervais wages the most brilliant and beautiful war against heartache with this masterpiece 💖🙏✨
Just finished the first season. This show is absolutely brilliant. A MUST WATCH!!!!
First season? Why would there be a second?
@@hesch-tag it says season 1. So I assume there will be a second season.
@@BeanVIII I see. I thought there would be a second season and probably a Chritmas special as he always does but after watching it, I don't see how this would continue.
@#Hesch tag why, is it bad? I've read the other comments and it seems that this is a great show. I haven't watched it yet though.
Really good story is written by Ricky Gervais. I saw people's life story and reality. People are feeling alone in their lives and a foreigner can help to support in your life.
It was genuinely brilliant. Imo it’s equal with The Office for his best work
This is literally the best series I’ve ever seen ❤️
I am not a big fan of drama but this one? What a beautiful show ❤ I never cried and laughed so much at the same time as I did watching Tony and his wife memories. I miss them already 😔
