This was great, I record my studio albums and release on a U87 and perform live/acoustic versions on a sm58 … I’m getting to know the differences of using that 58 and proximity though, making progress but I can confirm everything your saying through my own experiences 🤝✨
I like when you record a song with one condenser mic for your vocals and acoustic. You seem to set it farther away. Those songs have an intimate, organic feel to them like we’re in the same room with you. I’m surprised you didn’t go over this in your video.
So good to finally have a lesson on how to properly use a condenser microphone with a proper recording artist. I knew about most of this, but it's totally different to have clear examples like you gave. Examples are everything! Since I'm getting used to a condenser microphone, it would be so helpful to see the same kind of video on a mic used for performances like the shure sm58 or a similar one. I'd like to feel as comfortable as possible with both kinds because they are quite different and they're what I can afford right now. Thank you, Joseph! 🙏❤️
I think we made a comment about your mic control on your Just The Two Of Us cover when we reacted live! You’re very good at seasoning the mic and giving us the exact flavor you were looking for!
I love this❤ This was so helpful! I just got a mic and found myself kind of doing this from time to time but I didn’t play with enough! I love acoustic and just softer toned music as well as lower notes. Hence why I love your page! Mabye I’ll get the guts one day to start making my own covers and posting them like you 😣 For now apps are home for me 😂
Wow I've been recording for a few years now and I have always struggled in the studio with recording my vocals. This video is like no other had so much knowledge and wisdom for making the microphone work for you as an artist! I can't wait to try these tricks next time I am in the studio. Thank you so much! This is definitely a game changer!
Always a pleasure to listen to joseph's approach on filming and recording. I actually bought SM7B after watching one of your covers. I get inspired after every vid 🙌🙌
I do a lot of readings for my poems with my Blue yeti, which i also sometimes use it to sing. I have this cube pop filter on it which helps isolate a lot of excess noise for me.
I love these how to videos as well as your other videos!! Could you make a how to start a cover channel like implications of posting essentially someone else is song??
This is amazing!! Thank you so much for these tips. Looking forward to any new tips. I am singing a lot of high-pitched rock/soft rock songs lately. I wonder what ideas you would give for that? I'm assuming I'd just be like one foot away from the microphone at most times haha, and come in close for effect at lower parts.
wow this was really informative and really helpful. Also was entertaining and fun just to watch even if you're not a singer but enjoy music like me 😅😅 Thank youu sir!
Hey, you should listen to "Need Somebody To Love" by Ady Suleiman. It's a fantastic song and I think you would have fun playing it. Maybe even, if you have time, a tutorial for the guitar. Thanks!! all love
Great vid. I think we're definitely guilty of relying on plugins instead of mic technique. Thanks for the tips. Do you ever use analog compressors for your vocals?
If you dont mind taking a cover request please sing Dermot Kennedy - an evening i will not forget I appreciate it if you do, but if you don't that is also okay !
New recording artist here…this helped sooooo much! Know your voice…know the mic you have. That tip for soft notes was a game changer for me.
0:01 - 0:47 : Introduction
0:48 - 3:20 : Dynamic vs Condenser Mics

Thanks for the advice. I still sound like Peter Griffin yelling into an empty metal trash can. 😂

I appreciate it if you do, but if you don't that is also okay !
First comment at last ,I'm really lucky
Do you use pro tools?
try getting a smaller pop filter
A microphone is perceived as someone's ear. That's a peice of application, I'll take away...
Frank Sinatra perceived it as, a piece of himself...
These are incredibly helpful! Thank you!
