    I cannot even tell you how grateful I am for this! Your willingness to share useful information and give back to other artists/content creators is so humbling. Thank you thank you. You've inspired me, and I congratulate myself on understanding your processes, making me feel ready invest into my gear, especially for my home videos. So cool! Guess my question is, do you ever EQ your reverbs? Taking out some of the low ends especially for a tighter halo around your vocal tone?

      @nofalsetto5834 2 роки тому +2

      try adding a low cut EQ and take out everything below around 250 hz also a high shelf eq can be nice too taking out some high end.

      I went there too! not for music, but I did take some of the music business and musicology courses.. did go to LA recording school tho.. and I can say you will almost never learn in a traditional college what you can from youtube or a trade school for this stuff..

    AMEN on the auto tune part. I can’t tell you how many mixes I’ve done for people that say “ can you turn down the auto tune and make sound more NaTuRaL “ NO BECAUSE YOU CANT SING. People think auto tune can make people sing, Wrong, you need to have talent and it just saves time in not having to record 100 takes to get it 100% perfect. It only has to be 90% perfect. Very well said my friend.

    Thank you so much for showing all the takes in your session, for the longest time I thought I sucked because it does take me an hour to get a 2-minute take I'm proud of. You know, warming up, figuring out the vowels and breath support, timing, getting into the zone essentially. Edit: also, you sound better without tuning, the result is more human and soulful!

    This soothed some misconceptions I had about Auto-tune, so thank you. I'm already a shy singer so when I heard what my voice sounded like on full auto-tune, I was like "oh god, I must be awful if it's working that hard to pull me on pitch" so I started making the settings on pitch correction less harsh. I liked the sound better, but still wondered if I was using incorrectly. Nice to see that more lenient settings on auto-tune is okay :)

    That is a great sounding vocal sir! May I suggest making an aux channel for the reverb instead of putting it directly on the vocal channel? Plugins (much like hardware) react differently based on how much signal you feed through them. And every plugin has a sweet spot. If you need anymore explanation I'd be happy to help.

    Loved the video. Butttt you actually CAN record without the effects while still JUST hearing the effect through the Apollo. See that little red dot on the inserts, click it and it’ll turn blue. When it’s blue you can HEAR the effects BUT it won’t record them. One of my fav Apollo features! 🙌🏾🙏🏾 I hope it helps!

I've been studying music production and every great producer I have the pleasure to talk to or watch some masterclass or course says that it's about removing the weird things and frequencies and not about trying to ad stuff to your mix, specially when it comes to bad recordings. great video!

    Woah, you have a really nice tone in your voice. Just wanted to say that I could definitely tell a difference in auto tune, perhaps because I’ve played the violin for around a decade and tuned it without needing the tuner too, so the trained “perfect” pitch inside of me is tingling me whenever the tuning is even a bit off. Hahaha, I guess it’s just my problem, but you really are a great great singer and auto tune is like the salt and pepper that enriches/supports your voice to sound much more natural, don’t know if you get what I mean but keep up the good work brother!

    Everyone don't think that you need all the fancy gear to start off..
    Cheap Mic : Behringer SL75C
    Cheap Interface : Behringer UMC22 or UM2
    Cheap/Free DAW : Reaper
    Even this is higher than is needed, but you learn to make do with it, you'll be better off for the future.

    I just have one question please... your waveforms on Logic Pro are so clear !!! They greatly fill the height of the track, how do you do it? Is it just the gain staging that allow such a clear recording on the track? Are there other elements (plugins - settings on logic or others...) that allow to obtain such definition?
    Thanks a lot !

    Joseph this is great and very specific to aspiring musicians. I would recommend that you do an actual course and sell it. An additional way to make money using your knowledge. you can make your course like from beginning to end of your process of audio recording, and post. also your video work setting and all. I know many famous UA-camrs making money out of their knowledge. like skillshare, or their own course. Ali abdaal for instance is a good channel and he does a lot, another one is excel girl. You go man! I'll be the first one to buy it. You are an awesome explainer/teacher, and what you produce is really quality as well.

  • @JoshSher_

    Thank you for the look behind the curtain! It's very valuable and I appreciate it a lot!
    I'm just curious, what are reasons for you to make another take? Cause it looked like every take is the whole length of a song. So I assume it's not like "oh f*** I didn't hit that note! Starting over!". Is it more like you listening back to it and thinking, "hmm I don't quite got the energy right". And then you make as many takes as you need until you got one that you feel 100% comfortable with? No compromise? Or do you still have to kinda say to yourself "I'm very happy with that one! Just that one little thing is bugging me a bit, I'm going with this one".
    Sorry for the many questions, I hope you know what I mean :)
    Thank you again for the content!

    • @whatisjoedoing
      @whatisjoedoing  2 роки тому +1

      most of them are not full takes. but yeah sometimes i listen back and if i don't "feel" it all the way through, i can't expect my audience to. so far, when i'm actually excited about how something turned out, it also gets a lot of views. songs that have not performed well ironically, i already felt on the fence about when i finished it. so it's a gut thing. i'm pretty picky too lol especially for the first half of the song. if the first 30 seconds don't make me feel some kinda way immediately, then people are less likely to keep listening. if i feel like there's a part that takes away from the whole vibe, i'll just redo it until it feels right or come back to it another day.
