I'm so glad I the hide-and-seek one Chara isn't evil. Because he/she was only evil as a ghost/demon/whatever Like Flowey, she had no soul so he/she didn't _feel_ anything... But when the player's actions choose to do _Genocide..._ It makes Her/him want to help you. Like, in Paci"Frisk" where you spare every monster. Chara doesn't care about your actions. Because they don't see killing is wrong in pacifist. But then in genocide... after you kill asgore, your know how he/she says "EXP. LV. GOLD. ETC. When the number of those increase.... That feeling....that feeling is _me_, Chara(OrWhateverYouNamedYourself)." So, killing everything awakens her from death is what she says. And there's my long explanation.
