  • Thanks to Troy Hall of Hall Apiaries for talking to me about his full time bee business in New Hampshire. This sit-down helped me a lot more than it will him!

as a husband to a wife who owns a successful business, ive had the opportunity to become a stay at home dad and, also start my own bee business. second year in and only 12 hives but ready to really gear up this coming summer, label, social media, farm stand, and out yards all ready to go, big plans. duck river honey and hall apiaries have been huge inspirations to me and I am grateful for this talk!

Awesome interview, VERY informative especially getting a northern beekeepers perspective. So sorry I was unable to stop by during the Expo, I really had wanted to. Unfortunately, I was pulled in a hundred directions and I never got back to you. Looking forward to seeing you and Cory in just a few weeks. Until then, God's peace brother.

He sets good example for the industry people see him see success and freedom then think I need more bees . Hobby nuc sales been rather weak in the north but bulk orders way up. Guys wanting 100 200 nucs looking for deals.. looking to jump into the biz . definitely pays to work the bee clubs and farmers markets I just can't do it not the reason I went into bees .. I run wildlife control business in the city I get enough people doing that. Love the bee life looking at two new yards tomorrow got bee yards coming out of my ears. Get on one farm and their friends and family want bees and free honey

Really enjoyed this discussion, especially the last 6-10 minutes. You and your Bee Business videos have motivated us to make a go of it as beekeepers as opposed to the alternative. Also, I concur that a bad day of beekeeping is way better than a day in any office. Thanks again for taking the time to post this. Good stuff

Nathan, this is one of the best video interviews you've done. Being located in upstate NY, I could identify with a lot of Troy's business. I'd suggest you find a semi retired person to do your honey deliveries. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome interview Nathan, thanks for all the effort you put into them! I have the exact same dilemma as Troy in regards to fall flows. Mine is super unpredictable it can be zero or three supers, it is normally a lot or nothing. I also worry if I leave the honey on the hives it will lead to gut issues.

Around 2 to 4 years ago, I think, the sugar started being contaminated with glyphosate. This most likely has a very negative impact on bee health. Buying organic sugar will have a negative impact on your financial health, but the potential increase in bee health might actually make it more economical in the long run. Somebody should do an experiment.

Organic sugar is not good for bees. It needs to be white. They will have a hard time digesting Organic sugar.
