Ya, we had 26 on that frost here in Holderness NH. Zapped quite a few things. Oaks and sugar maples might not provide much for the chippies. Your queen I got last year is doing well, hope to split off that colony in the next week or so. Thanks for posting

thanks for the videos Troy, I'm a very small queen producer little bit south of you on CT / Mass line in the river valley as well. been waiting for you to make some videos, love what yea do, I also am treatment free and trying make some queens from my survivors and supply them around my area. I feel like I do different for my cell builders everytime, I like to see what yall do to help change my methods. little tougher when I only run 15 to 20 colonies + mating nucs. I also had a big die off this past winter as I heard you did the other year. but my few survivors look real promising and already had 2 rounds of grafts from her line. we will see how they do, just get real watered down here quick. thanks again!
What do you mean by "this pollen is a little past what I would like"?
As he already stated : The Bees have started to 'Seal' over the Powdery Pollen with a little 'Nectar' to make "Bee Bread"!
This shows up as 'Pollen with a Shiney surface over it ! 😉

For a Colony to raise New Queens : the Nurse Bees need to make lots of 'Royal Jelly' aka plenty of Protein to Feed the new Monach to be, before that Queen Cell gets capped and the Virgin Queen Emerges from her Cell on the '16th' Day !
Pollen is where Bees get their Protein from. Bee Bread is like Pollen but with work to 'Store' it after Spring has come and gone (or when nothing is Flowering re Pollen source wise.) Bee Bread is not as fresh as the 'Real Deal' that you see on the back legs of Bees.
Here in Scotland 🏴 we had Tree Catkins and Willow Tree Pollen in Jan/Feb. Now in March we are just about to get Dandelions and Apple Blossom aka the 'start of Natural Queen Rearing Season.' Or when a Beek does their version called "Grafting." The process used to make New Queens : so Hives will survive another Winter. 🙃
