    In this video I will share how I go about making my own beeswax foundations. This often overlooked procedure is a great way to spend long winter days preparing for the upcoming season with your bees. I find it to be quite fun and rewarding, enjoy!
    Materials I use: 2 steam trays, wax melting tank, foundation mill, paddles (for creating wax sheets), Beeswax.
    Note: I have found that one pound of beeswax will yield 6 sheets of deep foundation

    Thank you for the great video, I use different colours of garbage bags on the rollers to make them easier to separate, also I use a pizza cutter to cut to size.

    how do you attach the plastic bag to the roller to not compromise the imprints?

      I roll the plastic onto the rollers so that it is rolled onto itself. I do not notice any compromise in the embossing with the plastic, my rollers have a deep cell pattern so a layer of plastic doesn't seem to effect the quality.

    Hi there,
    Love your wax processing system and, on a smaller scale I am doing the same. Can you answer a question though please? My friend has 3d printed a complete machine for embossing foundation however the wall sizes on the rollers are not tall enough so the embossing isn’t successful. Also the bottom of the cells, on the roller are flat. Can you tell me the wall size on your rollers please and let me know whether the bottom of the cells are flat or domed in some way. My friend is going to make two new rollers. Thank you.

      I believe the cell size on my embossing machine is 5.1 mm

      It's very important to get the initial cell structure right for the bees to draw out your foundations. All six sides of the cell should all come together at a point to form the apex. There is an angle (not sure what that angle is). I don't think a flat bottom in the cell is a good idea.

      Thankyou for this, I appreciate you taking the time to write. My friend has made the roller initially with a flat bottomed cell however no made two others with a concave cell bottom. My initial question asked what height the cell walls on your rollers were rather than the cell width. He has now made the second rollers, we have printed some foundation and it remains to see how the bees take to it. ( each of the rollers took 17th to print so I do t think he will want to make more.
      Thanks again

    Could you make the paddle the same size as a full depth sheet to avoid the trimming

    • @HivesToHome
      @HivesToHome Рік тому +2

      The sheet stretches when it goes through the roller. Always some amount of trimming needed

      I am going to try this next year. I do know that the width of the sheets does not change a lot once squeezed through the foundation mill, the sheets do tend to come out the other side of the foundation mill longer after being compressed.

      Thank you for answering Troy. Also thank you for posting. It makes scense to use your own treatment free cappings to make treatment free foundation

    Hi Troy, have you thought about selling these locally? I know I would buy some.

      I suppose I could sell some off locally. Best time for me to do so would be while I'm making it in January & February
