So in reality whatever grit that mudstone is will affect the other stones grit. If the mudstone is lower than the cutting stone, then it will wear that stone down and affect the surface. I would not surface a stone with that. In the case of diamond stones, you do not need to add a cutting compound at all, just water. The hard stone will polish the blade. Lastly use a leather strop with jewelers rouge to finish polish the blade. The blade can be kept sharp by stropping on leather periodically. A blade is sharp when there are two polished surfaces meeting.
