I also thought the drum sounded like a heartbeat! My thought when hearing it was that it reminded me of having my head on someone's chest and listening to their heart beat.

I do believe this album and leading up to it are about a women who either took her own life or lost her life in a major accident and Vessel is basically saying she is now where he won't reach her.
This song does strengthen my hypothesis that this album is about his godmother, among other things.
