I dont know about anyone else but the sun in the background was magical! I have come to realize the 6'10 rod has been perfect for creek and river fishing smallmouth
I concur. I’ve fished about everything out there high end on the smallmouth spin side of things going back a lot of years. The new Xtremes are all I’m running now. The 7’6” M and new 7’3” ML are also in my wheelhouse for other applications. These videos will never win a huge fan base given the price tag and “sensitivity” is always as subjective as a Ford vs Ram vs GM perspective but to those on the water a TON it’s the little stuff that matters. Confidence and what feels right to each angler being one of them in whatever is chosen. Everyone uses what they like, can afford and or seems feasible. No rights no wrongs. Great thing about this smallmouth game. I lipped a heck of a lot of smallmouth in the 70’s and 80’s on stuff that I would laugh at now but at the time it was great. I just have a whole lot more fun doing it now with combos weighing less than what my reels did back then. Good fishing gents, with whatever you choose.
Nice lens flares Travis, J.J. Abrams would be proud! All jokes aside, good info on the Legend Xtreme and don't forget the warranty on those rods is solid as well, St-Croix stands by their product.
Travis, quick question, I see you have a Ghost trolling motor. I am adding one to my boat and i fish Lake ontario,St. Lawrence, oneida and cayuga. Im debating on getting the 52" shaft over the 45". Which do you have and what would you recommend? Thanks Mark
@@SmallmouthCrush great thanks!! Also how do you like it and how did it hold up this season. I swapping my ultrex for one because i have Lowrance graphs
If you are referring to the typical set up for deeper fish I would say I have caught them in 12 feet watching them on the the graph in stained water but typically if I am in 15 feet or more you can drop on them if they are not spooked. I feel most comfortable fishing in 20 plus though. But keep in mind there is times when I have seen smallmouth under the boat in 3 feet of water using the boat as shade and no cares in the world and was able to drop to them.
@@fishingthe262 I just don't think if I fish with someone that they will catch more fish than me with my $200 combo. Braided line has fixed that problem.
@@wilsonguan2087 NO doubt loomis are great rods. I get to fish with a lot of people and often times they let me try their rods out. I have used all of the Gloomis line up. They certainly are right up there. To me something just feels off about them. If you are a loomis fan certainly stick with what you feel is best. A rod is an extension of your hand, being able to understand and work a bait properly is one of the most important things to get bites. You have to be comfortable with the equipment you are using.
It certainly will work and I do like the Victory Rods. They are not as sensitive as the Legend Xtremes, hence the price points. But I feel they are perfect for someone who is on a budget and cannot justify spending the higher amount on a rod like that.
$600 bucks. Does it reel in and hook the fish filet it drive the boat onto the trailer drive you home make dinner and tuck you in at night? Travis come on let’s be real world your awesome but this video with that rod isn’t realistic
I understand your thoughts...is the value and benefit worth the $600, that is the question. Everyone is different and everyone spends their money based on perceived value. I can't speak for anyone but myself. But the reason I use these rods is because this is my life. I spend more time doing and thinking about the activities around fishing more than anything else. I am on the water using these rods 200 plus days a year. I have saved up and bought 16 of these Xtremes over the last 5 years. Remember this is my business so when I fish with clients they want that same experience using high end rods that I use on a regular basis.
@@SmallmouthCrush Travis I want to be clear. Your awesome and I think very highly of you. NY is a special place. We do more steelhead but have caught our share of 5lb smallies. Keep up the great content.

Thanks for your time buddy, appreciate the videos.. Sitting here in - 20°c (Canada) dreaming of smallies, and your videos are getting me through 🙏🤘
i have 5 green .....4 white inshore ... and 2 new black.......love em!!!!!

Amazing rod! I’ve own lots of dropshot rods over the years, and this is by far the best dropshot rod I’ve ever used.
WAAY out of my price range. But I really like the way you jack those Smallmouth!
Good video. Appreciate the info. Love my Victory rod. Gonna have to try one of these Legend extremes. Keep up the great content.
That drag sounds smooth on the reel for sure.

Love St Croix
I just picked up a 7 foot legend x, I know the video is on the extreme but I was curious about your experience with the legend x. Thanks
what rod do you use for distance drop shot fishing if you want a two piece rod.
Travis did you find the frozen tequila yet! Lol
got a few on the way :)
What reels are you running on those?
а новый st croix legend extreme двухчасник (2pcs)будет?
What twin tail grub or at least what size twin tail grub was that you were useing on that jig out of curiosity?
4 inch but cut it down just a bit
Are you seeing the fish on live scope then casting to them?
Often times I do, yes
Travis, what rod do you use when drop shotting in heavy current like the St Lawrence? Thanks
same 6.10 ML most of the time. Dragging in current that is the rod I use.

I have to have a 52 I could never have the smaller size

How shallow would you go, to do a straight down bait drop on under the boat?

Sorry, but the NRX DSR blows everything away. Not even close.
Who wouldn't like a $500 rod, but who can afford it?
Stop eating fast food for lunch, you’ll pay for that rod in no time.
@@fishingthe262 You mean like 2 months , I will give it a try.
@@thegiant573 2 months or a year, whatever it takes. If you want it bad enough you’ll figure it out.

Nrx+?
Yeah I agree NRX+ or conquest on top for sure.
