    In this DIYNate video, DIYNate replaces a Chevy Suburban 2013 (1500 series) passenger side low beam headlight by removing two bolts on the front side from under the hood to loosen the headlight and give enough play to access the low beam bulb. Bulbs purchased were basic H11 headlight bulbs from Sylvania (lots of options to purchase online). DIYNate did not have to access the bulb through the wheel well; however, if the two bolts removed don’t free up the headlight enough, you may have to go through the wheel well to release another bolt. Fairly simple project to do yourself and the replacement part was roughly $17-18.

    I stumbled on this method by accident, but then googled to see if I was missing some way to get more space behind the headlight. Your video shows exactly what I experienced on the driver's side, remove two bolts and wiggle the headlight forward enough to get your hand back there. No idea why Chevy makes it so hard to change a headlight the correct way, but this method works well enough on my 2013 Suburban.

      Glad you were able to get it figured out as well - no way I was going to go from the underside to get in there - haha!

    Thank you for posting; 2013 Suburban owner and driver’s side low beam went out. I had to pull back the splash guard but didn’t have to pull-out bumper or completely pull-out headlight assembly. Took me 20 minutes.
    Guy at parts store said given 8 years old, should do passenger side to and I was able to do passenger side in 3 minutes. Only had to remove two top bolts and wiggled out headlight enough to reach back.
    Again, thank you! Saved me at least $120 labor at shop.

    Previously I've had to go through the wheel wells to replace these bulbs. This time I removed the two screws as shown, then gave a good tug on the top back of the light assembly and it created a gap big enough to get my hand down there. Quickest install of these bulbs I've ever done. I did wear vinyl gloves when I took the new bulbs out of the package and installed them. Thanks for posting the video. ;-)

    Hey if you unscrew the two bolts that are connected to the headlight you can pull the whole headlight enclosure enough to change out the low beams on both sides and connect new bulbs and just snap it back in and screw the bolts back in. Took me 20 minutes total from start to finish.

    Thank you! The only thing I'd add (and maybe I just missed the cue) is be sure to turn the bulb 1/3 - 1/4 turn before trying to pull it out. At least that was the trick on my 2009. Much appreciated!

    Question, why does it seem when I go to replace light bulbs, if I take them out and then plug them back in they all of a sudden magically work? I've had this happen three times on house light bulbs recently and just had this happen using the method in the video to replace the bulb. I decided to try plugging the old one back in and it worked fine. Is there some kind of corrosion or connection issue happening between the connections? Thank you for the video by the way.

    • @DIYNate
      @DIYNate  29 днів тому +1

      Hey there - great question and I certainly don’t have the technical knowledge to answer that question but I would bet either a combination of corrosion, or a loose connection or over time, the bulb not making as tight a connection anymore. With house light bulbs, I have seen that little copper piece in the socket getting pressed down and not making as strong a connection so when repositioning the bulb, it sometimes makes a difference or pulling that tab out a bit (carefully with the electricity off of course). I would imagine though that it is possible the bulb may be getting close to end of life as well but hopefully in your case just resetting the bulb is better than buying a new bulb. It likely is either a connection issue and no bulb issue or a bulb issue and no connection.
      Great thought and thanks for your comment!

      Hey Cody - I agree, definitely don’t want to touch the bulb during a replacement like this. My video makes it a little tough to tell, but I don’t touch the bulb while putting it in; it just kind of looks like it because I was filming with one hand and clipping the bulb in with the other (would have been a lot easier if I wasn’t making a video - haha!). Regardless, a good call out for everyone not to touch the bulbs and my video does kind of look like I am touching the bulb when putting it in. Thanks!

      Hi Jaceand 1 - thanks for the comment. and sorry to hear it didn't work for you! Would you mind sharing where you ran into the issue in case other viewers have the same problem? I was able to get enough play by pulling out the front headlight to get just barely get my hand in there, but around the 4:30 mark in the video there is a screw/clip that I had to separate to pull the headlight out.
      I wasn't sure if the issue you ran into was around the amount of play, or just too tough to get your hand in, or what? Also, mine was a 2013 Chevy Suburban - are you using similar vehicle?
      Thanks! For other viewers, would love to hear if it worked well for you or if you weren't able to make the change from the front and had to go the hard way through the wheel well.
