Aesop Rock "Kirby" explained: Reaction, Review, Breakdown, Analysis. The Finale!

The 10th track from Aesop Rock's masterpiece album "The Impossible Kid" Kirby is the perfect capstone to the four tracks that came before it. Starting with Supercell, progressing to Blood Sandwich, then the shit or get off the pot moment of Get Out Of The Car, and eventually to Shrunk, Aesop takes you on a journey of his internal mental and psychological states and how these deeply personal and painful conditions are all at once small and inconsequential, all encompassing and insurmountable, unique and universal. The journey does seem to have found a happy ending, or at least a respite, in the form of Kirby, the MD recommended sense of purpose. What you doing, Kirby? Why'd you eat that leaf?
I always took the line "Good around misery and Golden Era samplers" to mean that Kirby is quite happy to to hang around, and keep him company while Aes is making beats with his MPC (which is a sampler most commonly used in the golden era of HIp Hop).

I’ve always interpreted “Bet, more than a pet to worship” as a reference to Bastet, the Egyptian goddess of protection and healing who is depicted as a cat.
Another thing I love is that Shrink was in an arcade, and he named his cat, who his therapist suggested, after an old video game 😂
i love the album context review style videos you've got going on here, very much a fan of this album and this run of tracks, though i've identified it as a 4-run from blood sandwich. Gotta go back to supercell i guess.
Supercell is really, really cryptic. I saw a connection between the other four tracks much earlier, for sure. But def check out the supercell breakdown or at least other people's takes on the lyrics in rapgenius. It's SO dense and packed with meaning. I don't know how he does it.

i always thought the "soon to be hailed the greatest of all warriors" line is just in reference to kirby being the warrior - likely due to the fact that house cats are still considered to be wild animals, and because everyone thinks their pet is the best. just my interpretation lol
