  • Parenting teens is often exciting, chaotic, fun, and stressful. Parents often struggle to communicate effectively during the teen years. Dr. Ken Wilgus encourages moms and dads to relax a little bit, back off from micromanaging, and start treating their teen more like a budding adult. That means NOT parenting your 16-year-old the same ways you did when they were 6. That means showing them more respect and communicating to them the same way you would another adult. And, the biggest issue for parents, learning to let go of trying to control your teen.

What seems to work instead of speeches is talking about things with my spouse or other parents. My kids seem to hang on every word then. Crazy 😂

I don’t understand why we all try to teach parents what to do ? Should be videos for kids what they have to do ? They know everything now adays .all information is there on google mama. Even ur videos also they might watched so they know what parents and how will they play with us . I think we should have more videos on kids to see why ur parents are like this .they should also know that their parents are experienced and don’t want them to go in wrong directions.
They respect all except their own family .

I agree with this. All the freedoms we’ve tried for our son have had to be completely taken away again, every time, because he has proven over and over again that he cannot be trusted. I would like the experts to speak to this issue.

My 14 year old has shown us over and over again that the freedoms we allow him, he abuses and makes extremely poor choices with. What then? Shouldn’t those freedoms be completely revoked? This broadcast seems to be for the older teenagers perhaps?

    Im liking this advice 👍🏼😃
But I’m confused about consequences for low grades? Our son has never had high marks, how could we possibly punish him for not being as smart as other kids? This is baffling.

I wouldn't punish from a reason of him not being as smart ; but I may make him have extra time of studying which he may very well deem as punishment 😅 but with you enforcing extra time study time that is you putting your foot down... additional lessons may also help ..he may be gifted in other areas too

I think the point is, if your kid isn’t trying, missing deadlines and getting lower marks than you know they’re capable of then that’s just cause for punishment.

It will help a large number of parents if they put the subtitles in Spanish

It would be a lot more believable if we left Gods out of the picture
