Another great video! Would you guys at Real Crusades ever think about doing a video on the Crusade of Salado? This is from Joseph O’Callaghan’s book, The Gibraltar Crusade - Castile and the Battle for the Strait: *“The Crusade of Salado, one of the decisive battles of the Middle Ages, marked a significant turning point in the relationship between the Christian and Muslim worlds. Comparing Salado with the Crusade of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 AD, the Royal Chronicle emphasizes that the victory in “the holy battle” fought near Tarifa was greater and more worthy of praise. Unlike Alfonso VIII, the victor of Las Navas, Alfonso the XI has little time to prepare and lacked any significant support from beyond the Pyrenees. Where as the kings of Aragón and Navarre contributed in a decisive way to the triumph at Las Navas, the only peninsular king to aid Alfonso XI was Afonso IV of Portugal. Aside from the Portuguese, only one knight from the kingdom of Aragón and two squires from Mallorca were present. The victory at Salado was attributable to **_”soli hispani,”_** to the Spaniards alone. Whether one accepts the chronicler’s argument or not, both battles had profound consequences. Las Navas de Tolosa marked the beginning of the end of Almohad power and opened Andalusia to the greater Christian conquest of the second quarter of the 13th century. The battle of Salado, on the other hand signalled the beginning of the decline of the Marinids who never again invaded the peninsula in force.* - (p. 187)

Portugal was the most templar kingdom in Europe, it was the only country who gave amnesty to the templars when they started to be persecuted, the order officially moved to Portugal
You will find the Afonso was the Son of one of the First Templars (who came into existence directly after the First Crusade) and grew up knowing the Way of the Templars (Including the Templar Code). His first battle was fought with his Mother Teresa who after Afonso’s father passed wanted the Portucale Kingdom to herself. The Templars were part of this battle and allowed Portugal to be born as the “First Templar Nation”. Hence from then forth the Templars and the later rebranded Templars the Order of Christ were side by side with Portugal. Even to this day the Current President of Portuguese Republic is the Grand Master of the Order of Christ. Incredible piece of History and such an phenomenal impact around the World Portugal and the Templars/Order of Christ have had. Bons Ventos.
Very acurate but is missing that Afonso Henriques's mentor/tutor was Egas Moniz a Prestige 'Grao Mestre' grande by his grand- grandfather who had very close friendship with the pope And grandfather of Theresa... Portugal started as a wedding gift from Teresa father, the Castellan king, Afonso Henriques was 2nd in line to take the crown of Castellan... Is expecculated the Teresa was approached by the templars who offfered a Kingdom for os Son in exchange of unmeasurable and endless gold and wealth... Ence Egas Moniz being granted by the grandfather and pope itself...

You will find your people cheerful and hard-working for battle; and they will ask you to enter the battle with the title of king. Do not doubt, but whatever they ask, grant them easily* ” Obrigado
There was a region called Castile at that time. The historians I read (guys like Bernard Reilly, Joseph O'Callaghan, Richard Fletcher, and Simon Barton) talk about León-Castile when discussing the 11th century and on.
@@RealCrusadesHistory Yes, that was the county of Castile, which later became independent of Leon and later on both crowns were united, but at that time Castile was not a Kingdom yet
Actually it was. Sancho II was titled King of Castile starting in 1065. Future monarchs like Alfonso VI, Alfonso VII, etc were also styled King of Castile, as well as King of Leon.
