he was already controling the region of lisbon since 1140, when the first attempt to conquer the city failed, the arabs payed him a tribute since 1142 not to raid the region, he was very active and the arabs had lost its control since that time. it was a matter of time (when more "crusaders" passed ) till lisbon fell into Afonso hands.

The de facto victors of our times would be the offshoots of the british empire, and by virtue of interaction with the US in its early history...the spanish empire also got some limelight in american history books (and americans are really the storytellers of our time)..

@@uptown_rider8078 we call our nation the Fatherland brother plenty to be proud of we're one of the oldest countries in Europe with the oldest borders we're the first European country to be a global super power with a vast empire spanning from east to west lasting from its beginning right after the Reconquista all the to 1999 or 2002 regarding both Macao and east Timor there is so much rich history and culture we were in full out war with the Ottoman empire fighting proxy wars against them as well. We're a mix of Celtic and Germanic.

In return, they were given 1/3 of the Portuguese total territory and the city of Tomar became their headquarters. The videos in my language are bad, the few books around that were around on Portugal history are very old and in my country they stopped ,- like many other hugely relevant books - ,being printed decades ago and we are left in the void of history. The books you recommend are also impossible for me to get, unless they were available on PDF

Kind of it began in the days of the Roman Empire when parts of Morocco was conquered by Rome and the conquered province was called Mauritania which in time became Morocco during the Moslem conquest.
