I know this video probably didnt show any device as a form of future proofing this video. But I just wanna quickly drop a few names for anyone interested to look up more 3d input devices:
Datahand, lalboard, svalboard, harite, CharaChorder 1 & 2, Mastersforge and potentially even the Azeron Cyborg although that's mainly used for gaming (but there have been people using two halfs to type with).
If you know of any other, pls reply, so I can add them to the list :)

Now we need a product for one handed typing so i dont have to take my hands off my mouse.

The untapped market here would be touch typers who need to be mobile. For example if you are an emergency physician who wants to type a note in a room but not bring a physical keyboard due to lack of desk space, having a device like this would allow them to keep the keyboard at their side and type as the patient talks.

you know, realistically it's a 2.5 d keyboard, since one is only one direction
*idk how you would change that*

a capacitive sensor, so that your finger touching the pad or not actually determines what gets typed....?

Requires buttons on the other side of your hand, basically. I saw some modified game controllers years ago that had buttons opposite the triggers so your fingers could pull or push a button.

Add a track ball to it to replace the mouse and taking off your hands from it same as adding symbols.

Trackballs, as much as I think they are neat, give me very sharp thumb pain after frequent usage :(
I still keep one around though, very nice for being on the couch.

This is impressive. I came here off of your wearable version you made for the mute person who mailed you. This has amazing potential. I've often wanted the ability to have a more portable keyboard as I can't stand phone touchscreens and I almost always have my laptop with me. Looking forward to seeing this technology flourish.

Definitely going to try this. I'm a programmer, and while mouse usage causes a lot of issues, typing is veeerrry hard on the tendons in my wrists and forearms and this just... completely avoids that. Hopefully this way of typing will keep my hands working a bit longer :P
This is also great for travel, or when you're not at a desk. Cool stuff!
Also maybe great for fighting games? The benefits only keep growing...

    • @ashoka7273

It doesn't completely avoid it, you're still using them. Strengthening is always gonna be the most important, especially for people like us 😄

I feel this would be a better sell if targeted programmers more
Like it is, it's tough to say if it is or not
Programmers don't usually like auto-completion because it needs to fit the code language they're using

A very cool device that I can see would have a lot of applications. The two main barriers for me would be cost and the learning curve. Embarrassingly I still can't touchtype properly on a normal keyboard and I love computers and have done for decades. I can see that a younger + smarter person and/or if they initially learnt to type on this instead of a normal KB they'd probably pick it up pretty quickly though.

I belive that cc2 would be a better bet for me if it would have display that would show what mappings my keyboard has and how they change if I use special key. I just resently started blind writing with my querty setup, it's terrifing to start this journey again on english and russian keyboard. But I do see benefit. For me it's not pain remedy, it's more like cybersec tool + speed writing. I do wish this keyboard would have software independent layout display, it would make learning curve smoother

  • @stormveil

I think the 1D vs 3D "typing" claim is a little too much since we use a 2D array of them with modifier keys. and a 1D switch can be placed in any orientation in space.
Certainly you can claim 5 DIRECTIONS per switch, which must be 5 times as good!?😂
While reaction time is true, it doesn't directly translate to typing since we don't react to single letters on a screen at a time. It's better to take out the mental reaction time component, which will make the difference between your board and the normal one look more significant.
The thumb point is basically an argument for thumb clusters in general and has nothing to do with the switches themselves.

Can you up the volume on your videos? I've got my volume on my phone cranked to 100% and it's hard to hear. Other UA-cam vids im listening to at 80% and it's much louder. I'm not hard of hearing

@@NP13000 It is used for layer 3 on pinky. Also you can bind actions to it if you want. In my experience the click just feels unbelievably bad, so I bound layer 3 to something else and am currently not using the third dimension of any of my switches xd
