He Tours the country for Guitar Center and starts playing just before closing time,it keeps them from having to stay open late by driving out anyone with decent hearing that might be lingering too long.
Same sloppy arpeggio over and over and his muddy phrasing is horrible...notes are unclear...nothing worse than someone trying to play to fast try some melodic playing.
It's so easy to criticize - just look to your own playing before ripping into someone else - it's not a competition, have respect for anyone who lives for and loves the guitar
Holy crap! Why? Dude, if you can't play fast just don't, there are thousands of amazing riff's/melodies which can be played slow. Also, just what the hell is up with the "bees in a can" tone? Carvin should take this down, it's not doing them any favors
I'd think Jason had to sign off for his tribute item to be representative of him. Rock on, Josh. Becker has your back. Screw anyone throwing any negativity your way, bro.
Don't hate. If you have a critique, maybe offer that up... but to just flame someone's playing simply because it had a few errors is complete bullshit. Guitar isn't about being some perfect, mistake free express: it's all about taking risks and pushing the limits. Kudos to Josh for clearly playing past his boundaries... in a few months of hard practice he could be sweeping with the cleanest of them.
that little chord progression then solo he does at 3:38 that doesn't sound like shit is literally from Marty friedmans guitar lesson where he gives a example of how to make a chord progression then solo over it
The guitar is awesome! Would love to play one and see what it does. Don't know what amp is being used here, but would love to hear this through a Marshall JVM Head with a 1960 Cab!
You are all ripping on him for being bad but look at his hands, he's shaking loads. he's playing guitar for premier guitar that thousands of people are gunu watch. that's freaky
Shouldve let Greg demo the Becker, not that it was that bad, but I would sure have rather hear him play the dude is tasty. How do guys think sweeping like that sounds good ?
Young Master Jxxx failed to mention SO much of the Jason Becker story with Carvin... The only reason he started working with Carvin again was my personal concern for him when some dude called me using Jason's name to "set up a deal." Yeah, the guy's name was Becker too, but it wasn't his dad. After that, I guess Jason thought enough of us and time healed a lot so he and Neal Taylor started getting things done. The JB stuff came long after all the other stuff was worked out. YMJ certainly didn't convey in that blip anything but his voice is more appropriate for a pre-school class of delinquents. "...do you like green eggs and ham?" Josh should have turned to YMJ and told him to stop crowding him...
I totally agree with Greg on every point - especially the weight - soooo important. Every heavy geet I've had has had rather stifled, choked resonance including the high end stuff; and all the really light ones - even cheap - had the best acoustic resonance and sustain with clear airy tone. My Parker Fly Deluxe weighed all of 4.5 pounds and had better sustain and acoustic resonance than ANY other guitar I've ever owned including a Gibson ES-345. Greg and Mr Holdsworth know where its at on that. ;-) Gotta get me one of those GH sig geets!!!
Made it about 3 minutes in before tapping out....I'm sure it's a great guitar, but this demo made me feel sorry for Jason having his legacy shat on by this hack.
If you look past his hair he ain't Guthrie Govan stop expecting him to play like him lol I swear Guthrie has you holding all guitarists to such a high standard lol
The tone is so muddy on those runs, I thought it was on the neck pickup initially which would have been ok, but then I saw him switch to the neck after.
So, they showcase a meat-pawed wannabe butchering a Becker model, then have Greg Howe just TALK about his? Oh well at least Mr Howe has finally ditched that ugly orange GuitarCunter-owned Laguna model. I wonder if he's tried a Suhr Modern, because his red Suhr Standard was killer but he wanted 24 frets and Suhr didn't have a production 24 fretter. I loved his ESP Signature, and the Fender Custom Shop made him the sexiest 24 fret Telecaster I've ever seen. I wish I could go out and try a Carvin somewhere other than their showroom though.
+Mickeyislowd You can actually get this model with different colours,I've seen a black and a red one on their FB-site.The black one had even a reversed headstock.
I'm not gonna bag on the first demo dude, 'cause I certainly can't play like that and he's got massive skills that I wish I had... but some of that stuff sounds like an old modem logging in to AOL and I'm having a hard time seeing the "musical" aspects of it.
the playing was pretty lame until 3:00 , the tone of the sweeps was horrendous, specially on the neck pickup, not the greatest tribute to such a great player and instrument, just shows that Becker was on a whole other level
i think the pickups are too different from the real thing and the guitar player is so skilfull but i guess he didnt have like a connection to play so he just drop random stuff
avenged7x400 i think theyre the same picups, maybe its the amp? idk. but yea the guitarist is def really good, its just that improvising rarely shows how great a player truly is. plus paying a tribute to Becker on the spot has got to be the hardest thing ever!
I dont think anyone realises how camera eq works...its gonna sound shit cause the camera's microphone is being over loaded, why do you think the crowd goes dead slient when he is playing? The camera adjusts to the loud noise with alot of added distortion because of the overloading of the micrphone
feel bad for that josh guy getting more negative comments playing sloppy all that....he should actually plan hes demo solos and practice more to make it perfect..
Carvin, if you want to step up your game and be taken seriously as a high end custom shop, only have elite players demoing your guitars, Suhr has Pete Thorn, Andy Wood, etc. and you have a random guitar center hack playing yours, not good for business.
Well, at least the intro was a tasteful to tribute PG. There are a lot of complaints about the guitar playing but the sloppy sweep picking and runs appeal to a lot of kids that wish to play like that. To them, this guy, gives them incentive to buy this guitar and play those runs and perhaps...dunt-dunt--daaa-(diminished triad run) ...even surpass him? lol Good sales strategy,Carvin. hahahaha
LJPV777 haha Yes no one should aspire to play sloppy and fast without any focus or direction.. I was being facetious with a hint of positive criticism. LOL.
hahaha I'm with you anyway...besides ,after listening to this guy, I feel that ol' disorientation of the guitar shop atrocities return to hurt my brain where down becomes sideways and up becomes gone. You know what I mean? lol
All of the guys talkin shit about the demo guitarist...he did a pretty damn good job. Considering he's just Joe Guitar Guy, he's doing justice to the Jason Becker model. Yeah he beefed a bit...but the boy has chops.
This guy plays so fast out of.key or no key even remotely i can his atonal disonnace and total disregard for harmony is a tribute to literally cacophony .. also there seems to be no time or structure or theme for that matter.. just very fast random amd chaotic
Ok... I’m not a guitar player by any means and have no business mocking anyone. From a drummers standpoint I can tell you that was thee sloppiest sweeping I have ever heard and seen. Will someone please get the hook!
To me this is just a load of blitter - When you play too quickly it just sounds like a speeded up recording and that is just as unlistenable !! Getting a good usable tone is what is needed in electric guitars and amplifiers of course !!
the amp is too boomy ,the action is too low for this guy "all the choked notes" and unimaginative over repetitive sloppy sweeps , stiff hand picking and alternate picking where there need not be any "slow left hand" WHAT A CRAPPY DEMO THIS IS
Couldn't watch more than 10 seconds of the video. If the guy can't shred cleanly, then don't even attempt it. Play what YOU can play, and no one will think less of you for it.
I think I've heard that guy play at EVERY Guitar Center.
He Tours the country for Guitar Center and starts playing just before closing time,it keeps them from having to stay open late by driving out anyone with decent hearing that might be lingering too long.
Smoke on the Stairway to Freebird!
He's the Tommy Cooper of guitar demo guys..lol.
Wow,those sweeps were horrible.
IvarsVMetal haha Right? I think it's his tone too
Same sloppy arpeggio over and over and his muddy phrasing is horrible...notes are unclear...nothing worse than someone trying to play to fast try some melodic playing.
I just love love love love my Jason.. XoXoX Namaste to all who read this & have a great day !
It's so easy to criticize - just look to your own playing before ripping into someone else - it's not a competition, have respect for anyone who lives for and loves the guitar

MAKE IT STOP!!!
Why did they give the guitar to an epilectic?
Brian Cullen Brian!
Doug Steele Yeah that was probably a bit harsh...
Brian Cullen Hey you related to Greg Steele the film maker?
Brian Cullen Nah, I was just being a parent.
Brian Cullen LOL
The proceeds should go to this guy playing the guitar for some lessons.. Zing!
zap
Very Gain. So Distortion. Many Crunch.
Yikes.
Sweet guitar though.
Stop.
You can't fully pay respect to Jason without having the whammy bar on there!!!
Shoulda let Jeff loomis play perpetual burn!!!
I think its a nice touch to bring someone with ALS to play a guitar in tribute to Jason Becker
I'd think Jason had to sign off for his tribute item to be representative of him. Rock on, Josh. Becker has your back. Screw anyone throwing any negativity your way, bro.
Nice guitar solo. Greg Howe must be really impressed.
Hahaha
3:46 is it just me or does it sound like hes doing those improvised solos over the chord progressions from Marty Friedman's Melodic Control?
glad I'm not the only one that noticed that lol
Don't hate. If you have a critique, maybe offer that up... but to just flame someone's playing simply because it had a few errors is complete bullshit. Seriously! Greg Howe is with Carvin?! to bad I didn't get to see him play it, I love that guy
I totally agree with Greg on every point - especially the weight - soooo important. Every heavy geet I've had has had rather stifled, choked resonance including the high end stuff; and all the really light ones - even cheap - had the best acoustic resonance and sustain with clear airy tone.

That guitar sounds great

Loving the GH24 🤘🤘🤘
"If you want my guitar, take my handicap"
He's the ELAINE BENES FROM SEINFELD OF GUITAR PLAYING....SWEET FANCY MOSES
Where is Rebecca Dirks????????
She's in my bedroom I am teaching her some sweet licks
Take that beautifully made guitar AWAY from him!!! What a horrible train-wreck of a tribute, to J.B............ SHAME!
4 years later I say, relax dude.
He's the first guy to only play 3 notes in 6 string sweeps. Impressive if you ask me.
That intro had about as much taste as a glass of water.
Once that guy stopped sweeping it sounded sweet.
Can he not play anything else apart from the same sweep over and over?
This guy also has" ALS" or "Accuracy lacking style"
so this is a professional player?
His playing isn't really bad i mean it is clear he can play well!
why is that tone so sick..its really hurting me
Josh Kraft is a very awesome human and great guitar player cool video brother much love eternally ;)
Needs moar gain!
So, they showcase a meat-pawed wannabe butchering a Becker model, then have Greg Howe just TALK about his? ... nice and clean
Love the killer clowns riff...J may be able to communicate with the rest of the Universe better than us old rockers.
I wish they did this guitar in a paint version or maybe a tint, It looks a little unfinished to me although I know this is like the original.
+Mickeyislowd You can actually get this model with different colours,I've seen a black and a red one on their FB-site.The black one had even a reversed headstock.

Sloppy playing, but I love the guitar.
I like the guitar, I don't like the playing on it.
Dude sounds good to me
I'd love to see Clapton play Stormy Monday on this guitar.
the playing was pretty lame until 3:00 , the tone of the sweeps was horrendous, specially on the neck pickup, not the greatest tribute to such a great player and instrument, just shows that Becker was on a whole other level

the pickups are seymour i think.. in namm there are so many guitarist and hand em different guitars that will explain the settings
I dont think anyone realises how camera eq works...its gonna sound shit cause the camera's microphone is being over loaded, why do you think the crowd goes dead slient when he is playing?
The camera adjusts to the loud noise with alot of added distortion because of the overloading of the micrphone
It's either his tone or he can't sweep well, I'm not sure. I think it might've just been the bad tone.
feel bad for that josh guy getting more negative comments playing sloppy all that....he should actually plan hes demo solos and practice more to make it perfect..
All its missing is Ietters from the alphabet
A - G
Rough playing
Carvin, if you want to step up your game and be taken seriously as a high end custom shop, only have elite players demoing your guitars, Suhr has Pete Thorn, Andy Wood, etc. and you have a random guitar center hack playing yours, not good for business.

They shouldn't want to play as sloppy as that. Also I doubt this tribute model is going to be near the price range of a kid just getting into guitar.
LJPV777 haha Yes no one should aspire to play sloppy and fast without any focus or direction.. I was being facetious with a hint of positive criticism. LOL.
Keon Crosswell lol Well then forgive my stupid ass for not getting the sarcasm.
hahaha I'm with you anyway...besides ,after listening to this guy, I feel that ol' disorientation of the guitar shop atrocities return to hurt my brain where down becomes sideways and up becomes gone. You know what I mean? lol

ClamsAnonymous So does pork..what about it? lol.
A chord.....sweep sweep sweep.....a chord.....sweep tap tap sweep....
Oh my GOD what is he doing?!
My hands smell of lavender.
great guitar, but neither the amp nor the guitarist do it justice ...
Looks like somebody only learned how to solo with arpeggios? There's a lesson in here somewhere? lol
+MyworstEnemy Learn more arpeggios?
Devin Pierce
LoL!! Good one Devin!
+MyworstEnemy you must be a blues player
mhasan666
I play rock, metal and blues. I'm only joking around, but too many arpeggios get old after awhile.
Looks like a piece of plywood with some spray painted numbers on the neck.
This guy plays so fast out of.key or no key even remotely i can his atonal disonnace and total disregard for harmony is a tribute to literally cacophony .. also there seems to be no time or structure or theme for that matter.. just very fast random amd chaotic
Should'lv of jam Altitudes blow peoples mind
That guitar reminds me of Sesame Street
Didnt think his playing was that horrible at all ,not everyone can be a virtuoso, apparently a plethora are here critical critiquing who knew! ;)
Que desastre.
Ok... I’m not a guitar player by any means and have no business mocking anyone. From a drummers standpoint I can tell you that was thee sloppiest sweeping I have ever heard and seen. Will someone please get the hook!
Wow, that playing on the intro, painful to listen to, who picked that guy?
my brain hurts...
didn't have to play it. Could've just shown it off.
How about paying someone who's able to play the guitar? A little? Maybe?
The guitar tone..... KILL IT WITH FIRE!!
Why did you rape Black Cat solo ? :( What a disrespect towards Jason
To me this is just a load of blitter - When you play too quickly it just sounds like a speeded up recording and that is just as unlistenable !!
Getting a good usable tone is what is needed in electric guitars and amplifiers of course !!
🤮🤮🤮 I can’t stand when dudes can’t sweep pick articulately and just scrape like that
Alejandro silva sabe hacer barridos de verdad... eso no se que es... grande Greg Howe!
the amp is too boomy ,the action is too low for this guy "all the choked notes" and unimaginative over repetitive sloppy sweeps , stiff hand picking and alternate picking where there need not be any "slow left hand" WHAT A CRAPPY DEMO THIS IS
Couldn't watch more than 10 seconds of the video. If the guy can't shred cleanly, then don't even attempt it. Play what YOU can play, and no one will think less of you for it.
that was painful
He should be sweeping with a broom instead, that was anoying.
Could have found a better guy to play.
So fuzzy distortion
that's...ehhhh...
3.40 marty :D
Nice guitar but why would you get Johnny Hackmaster from backstage who was selling hotdogs to showcase that ??? This is a travesty !!
He need to practice...
A complete disaster
the most uncomfortable player i've ever seen
why anyone thinks sweep picking is cool is beyond me
Chris Mortlock go listen to perpetual burn and not to this kinda bullshit
This guy here sucks , go listen to some real sweeping like altitude , serrana by Jasom Becker
Sweeping can be great when used properly and sparingly like Paul Gilbert or Steve Vai !
Every time Josh does a sweep a baby seal dies a slow horrible death --- Save the seals josh No more sweeps ......
Too much caffeine.
you know what's the odd thing, that if its a Jason Becker model, whoever plays it HAS to sound like and almost Jason wanna-be...pitty
tune up bro..cripes
it sounds horrible
Almost puked looking at the guitar.
...mud...
That is brainless shredding
