    I love the cork round idea! I have used them for my geckos, but not for a snake. Cool.

    I would recommend using a hide that has only one opening, because with burrowing snakes they can just burrow out another way if they need to 'escape'. It also makes them feel a lot more secure! I just got a baby cornsnake a couple weeks ago, and he definetly appreciates a 1 way in hide. Sometimes snakes get stressed out with log hides like that, and from experience they much prefer 1 way hides.

      Thanks for the advice! She has multiple hides, and the cork round is the only one that she really uses! :)

      @@HunterHouck Of course, it's just a suggestion, (and really, it wouldn't make TOO big of a difference) but sometimes with hognoses less stress is really important! Happy keeping! (and your hognose is very cute, by the way.)

    I honestly think setups like this are better than bioactive setups that seem to proliferate the hobby now. A simple setup like this is easy to tweak as needed. You could go overhead heat easily if desired (I think overhead heat works really well with hognose but is not mandatory), you could add a humid hide if or when needed, you can try different style hides, etc - all without worrying about the clean up crew, etc. Hognose seem to like it simple and be able to burrow/hide as needed, and this setup does that. If they only made fake dead grass, that would be cool to lay on top of the aspen. I have tried orchard grass, that is pretty good.

    I'm about to get my first hognose. When would you put the humid hide in the tank? Only during shedding?

    • @HunterHouck
      @HunterHouck  2 роки тому

      When a hognose is young, they shed faster and more often, so I recommend having a humid hide at all times.

      Petco has them for $9.99 right now, because their half-off sale is happening! www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/aqueon-standard-glass-aquarium-tank-10-gallon

    I would recommend using hvac tape next time , so if any heat happens it wont melt

    Can I keep a subadult in a 30g

    • @HunterHouck
      @HunterHouck  3 роки тому

      Dimensions are definitely more important than gallons, but I don’t see a reason why not as long as you have plenty of hides! I have a subadult in a 36x18x18”. Check out the video!

    I read you shouldn’t have the heat probe right on the heat source because the readings will be too high.

    • @HunterHouck
      @HunterHouck  3 роки тому +2

      The thermostat’s job is to control the temperature, so if you don’t have it on the heat mat, you’ll burn your snake.
