  • Recently, I created a bioactive 36x18x18” enclosure for my plains hognose with The Bio Dude products. It might just be my favorite enclosure that I’ve ever made. In this video, I’ll show you all the steps I took to make such a great enclosure for my plains hognose. There is bioactive soil, isopods, live plants, and awesome woods. This is truly an incredible bioactive enclosure, so I am very excited to share it with you.

      I agree, this just might very well be the BEST Plains Hognose enclosure I've ever seen.
      Believe me, I've been looking but for the most part all I see them in is clear plastic storage containers with nothing but a water bowl, paper towel or white shavings. Doesn't look good.
      I'd love to see more of them like this.
      Especially with these species and Royal Pythons. It helps educate people in seeing the snake's natural behaviors and inspire's them to look passed a snake's monetary value.

    Hey Hunter! Great video, as always. I like the 'calmingness' (is this a word? Not native english speaker here :D) of your videos!
    As for your question regarding the succulents, the first one is a Haworthia, most likely fasciata or zebrina, the third one also a Haworthia, maybe limifolia? But the middle one, no idea :D The forth should be another type of aloe :)

    Is a plain different than eastern or western hog nose and what’s the difference between them and a tricolor hog nose I want to get a tricolor but idk how to set up the enclosure

    • @HunterHouck
      @HunterHouck  2 роки тому +1

      Plains hognoses used to be called plains hognoses, but now plains is the correct term. The eastern is a different species. The tricolor hognose is in a completely separate genus.

    • @risingsunautomotive2346
      @risingsunautomotive2346 2 роки тому

      So a plains is a western? And do you think you could make a video going over the difference there isnt any on UA-cam

    • @SierraRomeoPapa
      @SierraRomeoPapa 2 роки тому

      @@risingsunautomotive2346 quite a few other prominent reptile UA-camrs have commented on it lately just no one has made a specific video. There has been a name change for the westerns to the Plain’s Hognose Snake. This encompasses all the snakes that once fell into the “western” category. Still the main four groups of hognoses in North America are the plains, eastern, tricolor, and Mexican varieties which I think used to be included under western but are no longer considered plains.

    • @HunterHouck

      I am curious why you left the original soil on the plants? I always clean mine off and use the reptile soil because the ones from the store have perlite in it, which is toxic. Were they purchased already in reptile safe soil? I think this is important to note for beginners.
