    I think it looks ace, not set on the tiles acting as the game mat too though. If they make one where they have flat pack buildings that would fit nicely onto a traditional game mat, I'd use those. I think the gaps and creases on the board would annoy me.

      If you examine how the model pops up, it’s easy to tell what is necessary and what isn’t. Cut out the extra base and reinforce the bottom and creases with super clear heavy duty 3M scotch tape. Then you have buildings you can place on the mat however you like.

      @@jgascoine011 Take a look at my reply above. It’s easy to fix. In the Titan’s defense, pop-ups do work better with a larger solid base. There are companies that make stand-alone card buildings, but they’re meant to be permanent or semi-permanent and not pop-up.

  • @oliharding
    @oliharding Рік тому +3

    Interesting. I think this is ideal for the casual player, or someone that just really REALLY hates terrain. The compact storage is a boon, however if you were to use this much at all the card cuts are going to rip and wear down, considering it's costing £100-£132 for effectively a just a game board I think this is more of a luxury than a saver. Something you could pocket for if you want to quickly nip round a friends house and play a quick game. Can't beat good old plastic that can be repaired, repainted and reused.

    I have a friend who was once a die-hard fanatic for tabletop titans and all their content, so naturally he was pretty hyped about this set of pop-up terrain.
    Him backing this product on kickstarter completely killed his love of the channel in its entirety. As an aussie, this is one of the worst products to back due to the shipping prices alone. If that wasn't the only problem, they continuously dodged communication with him.
    In regards to pure terrain costs, You can field a gameboard pretty decently with $500 of official terrain which was the equivalent of the all-in pledge + shipping price for their product, I don't see any merit to picking titans terrain up over any piece of official plastic other than speed of setup if you're an aussie. And if you're a kiwi, god bless your wallet.

    How do you think these would fair incorporated into already existing/traditional terrain? I can imagine just the two cathedral tiles on their own would make a nice centre piece without the rest of the tiles around. Nice idea overall though.
    Edit: Another thought, beacuse of the tester brain in me - they look sturdy but I wonder how they'd fair on repeat usage. I assume they'd last a good while, but might be interesting to take a tile and fold/unfold it many times to see what kind of stresses it can withstand. Not that I expect anyone to sit there folding and unfolding a piece for ages!

    • @tabletoptactics
      @tabletoptactics  Рік тому +6

      Heavy usage would definitely give it some wear and tear. The card itself is definitely good quality (as is the print). I think mixing with actual physical terrain might look a little strange… maybe trees could work? Not sure!

    Looks interesting, but some feedback to the company:
    Rubberize the flat side so it doesnt slip during play and break everything. I use a lot of random boardgames that have tiles to build like that and it adds a level of care to a game that makes it annoying to not move things. I already saw it happen as you were setting things up.
    Making it non-slip would make it amazing, and water resistant i suppose. Thin rubber layer with some grip texture.

So until then I am looking forward to having something to play with that is quick and easy to set up and can store into a small area. • @benfoster5201
    @benfoster5201 Рік тому +6

    The gaps between the tiles looks like they'd get quite annoying while you're playing a game. Constantly moving models around and nudging tiles by accident would mean there would be a bit of time spent readjusting and I think it would be quite messy. I still think normal terrain and battle mats are the way to go and are a lot more durable, plus you have the freedom of putting anything anywhere and not stuck to a rigid format. I understand the idea but I think it would be too annoying to adjust all the time. I comes down to personal preference but for me, I don't think I'd ever use terrain like this as it feels too flat and one dimensional, plus I can see things tearing and getting damaged quite easily while packing away.

    This would be perfect to play games away from home, but is this available in the UK? Buying this in the UK from US (including shipping) appears to be more expensive than buying a full plastic terrain set from GW (£138 for the Titans Tearrain, £130 for the GW set).

      Yeah sadly the shipping really stings for folks outside the US! The GW set is great (we use that too) but find that you need to buy 2 sets to have enough terrain recommended by GW’s official Tournament layouts etc. Honestly though, 1 set is perfectly fine and plastic would always be my personal preference. Just make sure you and your buddies bring a nice mix of units if you’re playing with a lighter terrain set up. Otherwise heavy shooting armies will dominate :) Hope that helps! 🕷

    At roughly 1:18 you see the main reason why this set is not good for 40k: It creates massive shooting galleries.
    At 2:59 you see the issue remains even if you add the half-tiles and cathedral square.
    For popup-terrain (or any fixed, tile-based terrain for that matter) to make sense it needs a selection of full- and half-sized tiles with and without terrain on them. The set basically needs enough terrain-tiles to create 1.5 boards.
