This is the best video regarding pull ups I have ever watched so far. Today after a month of working out, I finally made my first 2 proper pull ups and you have no idea how happy I am. I actually felt like I was flying when I did my first pull up and how easy I could go up in comparison when I tried to do pull ups when I started. This video is really helpful and I really do any exercise the healthy way and as it should be performed. I should've followed this channel way before. I will be watching everything I need to know, since I got in love with Calisthenics a month before. Calisthenics is the reason I quit smoking and started work out a month before and I really feel better. To all the boys and girls out there, get rid of bad habits and hit the gym. Stay healthy and get stronger. You will never regret it.

Pullups is my favorite exercise by far.
Before injuring my left shoulder, I used to do 105 pull-ups on alternate days.
I loved the feel of a perfect controlled movement, when you can actually feel many muscles group working together for a fluid action.
After almost 5 years, I'm again hanging from the bar, trying to regain my original strength💪🏻

I am 27 M, height 5' 9" I remember 5 years ago when I began going to the gym I could barely do 1-2 reps at 135 lb. Two years later I could pull 20 reps (PR is 23 reps) at 160 lb. Now, I have been into weightlifting more than calisthenics, so I rarely do pull ups, but last week I decided to see how much I can do after almost one year without doing them. I still can do 12-14 reps at 190 lb. I am also a fat guy compared to before, I gained more fat through the dirty bulking process.
If you can't do pull ups, start with just hanging from the bar and pulling with the scapula by squeezing it. You also can start with negative pull ups. Thereafter, use bands to assist you with pulling, and by time, when you feel more confident and see that you can do more reps, use lighter resistance bands. My advice to you is never to cheat yourself, pull fast and focus on going down slowly, do not do kipping pull ups and go all the up where you get the chin above the bar and all the way down. Another tip is to try to pull with lats instead of arms, and focus on upper part (do not try to use momentum from your legs).

I followed your instruction to MOVE the SHOULDERS down BEFORE any pulling with the arms and whilst the arms are still staight - YAHOO! IT IS SO MUCH EASIER. I immediately did more reps and it FELT REALLY GOOD . Also I made sure my grip was just shoulder width. Now looking forward to getting progress on this exercise for the firt time in my life. Hello CM. Watching your videos, I've found them to be quite helpful. I have been training for almost two months now and have seen good results. However, my question is with regards to the pull up excerise(s) demonstrated in this video. This week I suffered from shoulder pain, presumably from doing a lot of pull ups, as shown above. I went to the physiotherapist who found that it was not tendonitis, but luckily just muscle cramps in my supraspinatus. I've been asked if I "break the bar" when doing pullups. Do you have any thoughts on what this entails? It is my understanding that it means I should also focus on keeping my elbows as close to my body as possible, to prevent these kinds of injuries. I'm taking a week off training to rest as my shoulder is still sore. Thanks in advance. :)

I get my chin above the bar (no gooseneck) but I'm not able to pull the last 10 cm where my chest would touch the bar (full range of motion). Do you have any recommendation how I can improve on that?
