OH MY SWEET BABY JESUS.. THIS IS MY SINGLE MOST WATCHED VIDEO.. I AM JUST ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY BY KIKO LOUREIRO'S PLAYING...THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO..
for real! it's a blessing to have found this video. I really tried my hardest to reverse engineer how Kiko came up with such a dreamy yet speedy and rocky mood like damn.
Wow, that totaly opened my eyes. It seems instead of maj min chords in some keys, you can just play all lydian, but it means the song key is always changing?!... This was the best music theory lesson I saw, which gave me answers! Before I was a bit confused with all that modal stuff... OK, even now I am :)
Kiko, you are a great guitarist. You're one of those musicians who base their guitar playing on melody, not shredding. If there is a run at the speed of light in between, it looks incredibly cool. Everything played with so much feeling and passion - just brilliant! Lydian is a mode in major. However, the first chord is in its basic structure a minor. In the Lydian expansion, this becomes an E6#11. Neither the major nor the minor third is represented here. I don't fully understand...?
The thing is if Kiko would stay with the basic diatonic chords as he showed first, he would not be able to play everything in Lydian mode. So to do that he is changing keys for every chord, so he can play Lydian all the time. He played: E Lydian which is B major key. C Lydian which is G major key. B Lydian which is F# major key and G Lydian which is D major key. I don't know if this helps, because I was looking myself for this explenation for so long and this is pretty confusing.
He has an instructional video of himself after playing electric guitar for 3 years. That was enough for him to shred fast enough that people wanted his intel on how to do it, so he made a video in 1993 and he was like a baby haha. Shits crazy he has a full like story video on it.

Kiko is a Guitar God. I love Lydian mode
This guy is amazing. What a lesson.
Great lesson
Wonderful lesson! Am I the only one impressed with the sheer amount of frets on that guitar? Does that negatively impact the tone of that neck pup?

Excellent! But beware, using lydian makes you sound like Steve Vai - hes favorite mode I think :)
