Can't believe how good of a teacher Craig is. Never laughs at her for not knowing something that a mechanic would consider basic. Never gets frustrated or impatient with her while she works her way through things. Never gets mad at her for making a mistake. These are all exceptionally rare qualities in mechanical instructors!
My Dad was Heavy Equipment Operator/mechanic for 40 years. When I worked with him he taught me.Put down a clean white rag, then lay them as they came off in order, then get up and kick the rag. Now your a mechanic
Great teacher bet it pulled a stud steel insert On the big dog I bet you it’s got a different computer in. It’s really tiny wires. I’m trying to get it to work. It’s really hard we tried before and we couldn’t get it. We just gave it. Why is it so small I can’t see him.
I’ve seen a lot of UA-cam collaborations, I think this is by far my favorite. I’ve watched all of Craig’s videos as well as Doodle’s videos and she never ceases to learn everything motorcycle related and who better to teach her motorcycle maintenance than Craig. Awesome collab. Hope to see more of this😊
Doodle, On the righty tightly, lefty loosy goes, think of the face of a clock while looking down on the head of the bolt. On the clock face start at the 12:00, moving toward the 1:00 is right, toward 11:00 is left. Doing your own maintainence is very satisfying, your sense of accomplishment greatly increases your confidence in your abilities. Just as you have done learning not just to ride but took lessons from people that can help you improve your riding.
Point the thumb on your right hand in the direction you want the screw or bolt to go, your fingers will be curled in the direction you should turn. Only works on right-handed threads. Left-hand threads would be the exact opposite.
Craig is a great teacher and really patient. Doodle seems really nervous about riding a bike she’s seen taken apart. Remember, all bikes started off apart.
Wow...Craig, Doodle, Sean and Dan in the same video... So cool! UA-cam mashup is a great idea. Love to see more mashups. Good job Doodle learning how to turn some wrenches... Great investment that will pay off forever with motorcycles, cars, houses, etc. Definitely you should carry at least a few tools on your bike if you're doing long trips. I've had battery cables become loose while in a long trip with my wife that prevented the bike from starting; stranding us at a gas station. Using a Leatherman Wave multi tool I got the seat off, tightened the loose battery cable bolts and we were on our way. God bless. Hope you have a good and safe trip on that Harley and your police training goes well.
Doodle! That "lefty-loosey/righty-tighty" thing. Just imagine you're taking the lid off of a peanut butter jar, and you can't go wrong. (Until you run onto something called a "left-hand thread", which are just the opposite. And, yes, there IS such a thing.)
2 content makers from 2 channels (of which I'm subscribed to both), whom I never thought would do a collab, fixing a bike that Sean broke.. Doodle and Craig, I love you guys.. both of you.. Doodle, when I learned about fixing engines it change the way i drive and ride completely.. it's not just about turning the throttle.. it's what happens inside the engine when you twist the throttle that actually matters.. much respect to you my sister.. it's not anyone who would try to learn this kind of thing.. it costs guts.. and Craig, my brother, the way you teased Doodle, i wish i had a teacher with such a sense of humor.. then I would probably have learned better.. you are a great guy for doing that for her.. cos understanding engines makes you actually drive and ride with more caution. Much respect you brother.. Great episode guys.. I love it.. thanks..
It’s so good to see him passing his knowledge on. It always makes me happy when I find a younger person interested in wrenching and I’m always MORE than happy to teach them what I know and have learned in the last 30+ years of wrenching. Too many younger kids are just lazy and have no interest in being self reliant. They’d rather just pay somebody to work on their vehicles. It’s truly sad that there’s a HUGE chunk of the younger population that can’t even check their oil or change a tire. Or hell even drive a manual transmission.
I sometimes despair, when I see a car by the side of the road having a wheel changed by a motoring organisation, while a ‘MAN’ (?) watches. It’s very sad.
Its the best feeling to teach young guys/girls how to wrench! But... Im still chocked that so many people in America can't drive a manual!! The whole world drives both manual and auto, America is the only country in the world where so many people can't drive.. Its shocking and ill never understand why it is so hard for them to learn.. My dad was driveing manual at 8yrs old, i was around 10yrs when he tossed me behind the steeringwheel and within 10-15min i was driveing without stalling at every start/stop. Its not rocket science to drive. I live in Denmark, so my english is not perfect.
"Too many younger kids are just lazy and have no interest in being self reliant. " Oh sorry, too busy working my full time job, while working a part time job and being in the reserve military because my Gen X parents spent their 20s smoking weed and drinking instead of investing in their future to ensure I wouldn't grow up in poverty with an uphill battle to move up. I would love to wrench more, but no time and no garage makes it difficult for more involved tasks. The most I can get away with in an apartment complex carport is changing the oil on my motorcycle, anything more extensive I risk having a boomer ratting me out to the office again. I prefer to have a local shop work on my car to ensure it works since I NEED it to work, my motorcycle I handle what I can because if it doesn't work for some reason, I can make it to work still.
@@lastraven3017 good for you, honestly. Kids like you give me hope for the future. But you have to admit you’re the very small exception to your generation. And thank you for your service to the country.
This is an awesome example of craigs teaching and mechanic abilities. Doodle is an awesome bike girl, there are definitely some out there that do it for clout but shes awesome trying out new things. Craig is probably one of my favorite bike people ever.
When I was a kid first into motorcycling in the late ‘60’s & early ‘70’s, we had to wrench ‘em if we wanted to ride ‘em, because all we had was worn out crap motorcycles. I’ve never considered what it might be like to ride something you didn’t understand the workings of till I saw this video. And to be honest, I’ve got to give Doodle a lot of credit, it takes considerable bravery to set out on the long trips she rides with only her former limited knowledge. In the near future we’ll probably see videos of her expertly fixing military diesel KLR’s!
What a fun video to watch. In addition to being a top notch mechenic, Craig is an excellent teacher who doesn't take himself too seriously and really seemed to make Doodle comfortable. And hats off to Doodle for not being intimidated outside of her comfort zone and really digging in and seeing the job through. I'm sure she has much more confidence to attempt other mechanical jobs now.
This one is for Doodle. I know you are so proud of yourself. I could see it when the bike started for the first time. I am so glad to see women get into mechanics. I know you learned a great deal getting hands on experience with one of the great bike mechanics. Safe travels girl.
Fair play to her for actually getting involved. I’ve seen this before where the Craig of the scenario loses patience and takes over or the student gets bored/overwhelmed and gives up. I don’t mind if anyone isn’t capable of doing anything as long as they give it a good try at least once.
One just can’t help but love a girl who is determined and driven to get it done! There is no charm in it when a guy has that but it’s a marvelous thing when a girl does it! 😅 Good job, “Doodle”!
Thanks for this! Thanks for blowing up yer bike, Sean. Thanks Doodle for wanting to ride the bike - and willing to fix it. And thanks Craig for inspiring me to go fix my dad's Road King.
That was very nice of you to help her learn to work on bikes.I do not think any other person working on bikes would help a woman to learn a little. You are a good person to give of him self.
I always knew Craig would be an amazing teacher. Very patient, very chill. I learn best when I can relax and focus instead of someone annoyed raising hell and being condescending.
I'm a certified mechanic on this generation of motors from Harley Davidson at my local community college sponsored by Harley Davidson themselves. I was only 20 getting separated from the Navy due to my ADHD and my father was scared for me becoming stuck in life due to my challenge part of life. The way you taught her was the same way my teacher taught us as well! So two thumbs up for that, and yes this Harley mechanic had a good laugh at the moment you mentioned it. The first motor I tore apart was the vrod motor and saw the Porsche stamps everywhere, it was definitely awesome. Just befiddled me why there are always so many special tools compared to cars. Good job on this video!
I truly enjoyed this video. Good job, Doodle and Craig! I remember starting to wrench Harleys at a dealership in 1989, and I felt like I was workin' on giant jewelry. I knew how prized they were by their owners, and I tried hard not to even make a scratch. Doodle is a terrific student, and Craig's a patient, well-informed teacher. All the laughs were just a sweet bonus. Thanks! Morgan.
I remember when I stroked my 302ci to 331ci engine years ago, and made my 10 year old daughter reassemble and torque everything down to understand the process, and she was really into it, and grasped it pretty well. Love seeing young women learn mechanics and gain knowledge of how things work
I like the channel personality crossover. Kinda like a guest visit, but more in this instance. Doodle might not remember everything she accomplished, but this experience will help her gain mechanics confidence and increase her motorcycle mechanical skills. Kudos to Doodles. Cool episode.🎉
I'm a fan and subscriber to both channels. It was great to see you two working together. I like how you both are up for tackling anything. Great content!
Amazing seeing the before and after. First Doddle was scared to touch anything and then you see her wrenching away like a pro in the end. Excellent instruction by Craig.
What a nice young lady, and she uses her head for more than a place for a helmet. Everyone in her life has reasons to be proud of her. She did good on breaking the head bolts considering she looks like she weighs 90 pounds. Good job teaching and learning. What she learned can be used on anything with wheels.
I'll admit I'm not subscribed to Doodle's channel. I have watched some of her videos and she is not afraid to try and learn new things. I've never seen her try and pretend like she knows something she doesn't. (Unless she's joking around). In everything I've seen she is a genuine person and I have no doubt she is a wonderful person to know. Craig of course, as we all know, is a big gentle teddy bear of a man. No doubt one of the nicest guys on UA-cam. Quite enjoyable to watch these two people interact.
I have respect for anyone who can teach anything to another person because I am the WORST at teaching because I never have the right words, so it's harder than it looks. I attempted to give my friend a guitar lesson who knows absolutely nothing about guitars, and I had no idea where to start other than to say if it feels natural, then you're doing it right.
i really loved that sean did the narrating in this channel it feels like i still watch Bikes and Beards main channel. edit : working on a bike you build/fix is always an awesome feeling. it feels like, yeah i did this bike... i made it run again.
Cool to seek Doodle here, wrenching and learning how it all ticks. Although she would benefit knowing about leverage / mechanical advantage :) and better to learn with manual tools like T wrenches than power drivers which can cock things up real quick
Ah, what a lovely installment. I wish I had someone to teach me how to maintain my sporty. I still take it to the dealership. Craig is a great teacher.
This was an amazing video! Carol is so fun to watch when trying new stuff. Great teaching job Craig... This will be something she will never forget! Awesome!
She is so cute and tiny and innocent and ready to learn and this is why I love this man because he's so patient and kind and she's so willing to learn and it makes my day to see her be able to gain some knowledge it's so impressive most young ladies would not want to rebuild their own bikes so this is pretty cool and it helps that she has a pretty smile❤
I love the way Doodle is eager to learn and give it a go. For me, who started riding in the early 70’s, being able to work on your own bike is just a part of being a Biker. Back in the 70’s, a friend of mine helped his GF (who was a nurse) do a complete rebuild of her car engine when it needed it. She asked him to teach her and she was a great student. I’ll never forget the looks on guys faces when she would rattle off all the mods they included in the rebuild and why they used the cams they did, etc. It was awesome! As far as I know, only one mechanic tried to pull the wool over her eyes and she played dumb just long enough for him to put his meck in the noose, then she pulled it tight. Gently, but firmly. She said he turned a shade of green when she set him straight, which would’ve been fun to watch. Love to see ladies learn how to wrench.
I'm not done with the video yet, but I gotta say that I haven't seen one mention of how this woman is a better rider than most of us. She's done so much practice and had so many classes... She's a better rider than me, that's for sure.
Good job! Both of you had fun. Nothing like coaching a young person through a technical mechanical job. Doodles, Good on you for getting in there. Barry
Flat handed push on spanners / hex keys when near sharp or solid objects??? That's a great tip (says he while looking at the healing nicks and scrapes on his right hand...)
Great video, love Doodle’s channel also. Police training is a great goal. Ryan F9 also did the police motorcycle training course a while back in Canada. (There’s a video on FortNine about it.) It’s a gruelling 11 day long course, training alongside police moto officers. (They have some spots each year reserved for civilians.) Keep up the great content!
23:10 As a german I have to intercept here. 😄 The "german torque setting" you refer to is "Gut fest" or "Hand fest". 😁 Btw. "Nach fest kommt ab". 😛 Love your channel!
🔧 when you do a head gasket, you should also do a base gasket. Typically you would also do the other cylinder. That way your top end is on a level playing field. 🌈 ⭐️ The more you know...
I love watching this channel. I feel like I’m hanging out with friends when I watch him work on motorcycles. I’m actually not too far from where he’s located. I am in Palmyra Pennsylvania.
They both are awesome! Working with several young officers over the years I can tell she's dedicated and focused on the task at hand no matter what the challenge. This was a great video!
Awesome teaching keepin it simple typical HD needing to take off a dozen pieces to fix one piece Doodle is just lovely and that smile with the achievement it's a very real rewarding thing knowing that you've done it yourself great job nice vid
On most non-Harleys you have to remove the fuel tank just to replace an air filter, what's up with that? And don't even get me started on changing plugs...
Point the thumb on your right hand in the direction you want the screw or bolt to go, your fingers will be curled in the direction you should turn. Only works on right-handed threads. Left-hand threads would be the exact opposite, or use your left hand.

"We're gonna use the German torque setting. Guten tight" HAHAHAHAH that was beautiful!!!!
Yeah that one killed me, brilliant. :)
Uncle Bumblefuck has taught him well.
But not too tight because "nach fest kommt ab"
You should use a torque wrench Unless you do those bolts daily and have developed a feel for bolt torque.. Over or under is not Guten..

The key “open hand” knuckle buster prevention tip has my approval.

Actually, I don't think the blown gasket was too much nitrous, but, too much Sean. .. 🤣.

This was an amazing video! Carol is so fun to watch when trying new stuff. Great teaching job Craig... This will be something she will never forget! Awesome!
What a sweetheart. And now she can turn wrenches. I hope she does great with everything. Good job teaching teacher...
Doodle and Craig!! The best surprise of 2023!
Barry
Sweet video. Caroline/Doodle is one of the nicest personalities out in the bike world. She makes millions smile and feel good about motorcycles.
Flat handed push on spanners / hex keys when near sharp or solid objects??? That's a great tip (says he while looking at the healing nicks and scrapes on his right hand...)
I love it that Craig uses a cardboard template for where the bolts ahould be at. Used to do that as well 😅
Great video, love Doodle’s channel also. Police training is a great goal. Ryan F9 also did the police motorcycle training course a while back in Canada. (There’s a video on FortNine about it.) It’s a gruelling 11 day long course, training alongside police moto officers. (They have some spots each year reserved for civilians.)
Keep up the great content!
My faborite thing about doodle, is that she will try ANYTHING if its motorcycle related. 😁
Fine job. No laugh here watching you work on a Harley on my day off. 👍👍
We knew from his commentary on the other videos that Craig is a great teacher, this video further proves it
23:10 As a german I have to intercept here. 😄 The "german torque setting" you refer to is "Gut fest" or "Hand fest". 😁
Btw. "Nach fest kommt ab". 😛
Love your channel!
One of the only UA-camrs left that actually seem genuine thank you for all the videos you deserve a rase 😂 god bless you all
Another Great Video 👍 Great content, keep up the great work! Nice to see Doodle on here learning.
Top notch video there Craig.
🔧 when you do a head gasket, you should also do a base gasket. Typically you would also do the other cylinder. That way your top end is on a level playing field. 🌈 ⭐️
The more you know...
It's sooo refreshing to see this and not one sexist joke. Thanks for that.
If you've ever had a mentor as good as this, you'll remember it for life.
I love watching this channel. I feel like I’m hanging out with friends when I watch him work on motorcycles. I’m actually not too far from where he’s located. I am in Palmyra Pennsylvania.
Brother you are a class act and one hell of a teacher. You are a role model. Great video.
Great episode. Great instructor, and, she's such a sweetheart!..
Point the thumb on your right hand in the direction you want the screw or bolt to go, your fingers will be curled in the direction you should turn. Only works on right-handed threads. Left-hand threads would be the exact opposite, or use your left hand.
Not quite, you use your right thumb/hand for right-hand threads, and your left thumb/hand for left-hand threads.
@@paulyeomans1065 The only thing I left out was to use your right hand, but otherwise, what I said is correct. What you said is also correct.
I appreciate your patience Craig have to hand it to you ! Great video good job Doddle 😊
I have an old gixxer in the shed that runs on 3 cilinders...Have to clean the carbs to get it to work but i'm postponing that job by watching you work instead. bliss
