  • Join us for a peak behind the curtain on the new S650 Mustang GT and Darkhorse cars. Thanks to HP tuners, we can now look at the stock tuning files to see what is new and different and more importantly know the stock limits set by Ford. Since we can not flash the cars yet, this is a great insight to see how far we can push them before tuning the car is possible

    Awesome job Ken, great collection of data. It is a massive amount of data and what the tuning files are, it will be
    a matter of time when someone will unlock the tuning files for the engine and trans as well, it's going to be very
    interesting in the near future what/ or how all this will unfold , your are right the best thing is a strong V8 in a
    new Mustang platform.

    In the motorcycle world of tuning they've been dealing with lock ECU's for a few years especially now with Euro 5 bs but so far they've been able to crack them so hopefully it won't be long before y'all get around them to tune. Good stuff

      Agreed. Probably about 3-5 years for it to be cracked. The ECU might need to be shipped to Ukraine for some Russian hackers to hack it. And 2-3 weeks later, you’ll have it back and ready to rock!

      Check out steeda’s video where they dyno’d the Gen 4 mustang with catted headers and no tune. Picked up nice power. Catted headers and a 93 tune will make 460+whp, so I’d say e85 & catless will be spot on 500 whp

      I'm guessing around 530 crank for the GT. Dyno tests using Kooks long tube produced 40 horsepower

      I mean did you even look at the graphs? If you only plan on staying at around 2k rpm and under then sure but after 2k you can see the 21 was getting less air, obviously you can tune the s550 right off the lot and it’ll fix that but you’re no longer apples to apples anymore, if you want an s550 get it bro it’s same engine different intake and apparently different cams, but tryna clown on people who like the s650 is kinda cringe.

      Clowning of the S650 while championing a S550 is gay as chit. I don't like either car. They are both overweight pigs built on chassis those performance is mediocre at best.
      Buy either a GEN6 Camaro LT1 or SS as you get way better chassis/suspension performance, or buy a 18+ F150 5L RCSB truck. A RCSB 2WD F150 will give you a relatively small weight increase, but the truck will give you more comfort, more usability, you look like less of a douchebag, it's easier and cheaper to mod than a Mustang. No N/A car is as rewarding to tune as an 18+ 5L F150. "What do you mean, bro!!! A Mustang GT and F150 use the same 5L when talking GEN3+ engines! Only the manifolds are different!" Incorrect. F150 and Mustang Coyotes use a different firing order. No one really knows why as there seems to be no performance advantage of one firing order over the other, only a sound difference. Different firing orders mean different cams, but their specs are almost identical. With that out the way lets get to the advantages the F150 has over the Mustangs. Speed Density. Unless you want to run aftermarket cams there is 0 reason to want MAF over SD. Even a 20+ GT500 uses SD like the F150. Where stock or making 6,000 HP there is no need to touch the SD. It's just a sensor in the back of the manifold that measures pressure. MAF measures velocities, and as you mod and increase performance you'll peg the OEM sensor, and then you'll need to extend it, or upgrade it, and a MAF that's able to support higher HP became a tuning headache, and driveability becomes a problem while you're trying to get your tune right, etc. Upgrading the MAF is not free. Next is 15+ F150 5L is factory flex fuel. Mustang is not factory flex fuel, neither is Egoboost. "But Jroc, upgrading a Mustang to run E85 is not that hard." I don't give a chit, it's a lot harder and more costly than it is in F150. A bone stock F150 will happily run on E85. A custom flex fuel tune will self adjust as well. IDK why people with 5L F150's keep using tuners like 5 Star or Lund who want to give you a 87 tune, 93 tune, E85 tune, towing tune, etc. Sure 5 Star and Lund has E85 tunes that run strong, but a custom flex fuel tune that self adjusts itself (adds or pulls timing based on how it detects the engine is running) depending on the octane in your tank runs just as strong. Look up AML or OZ tuned trucks if you don't believe that. IDK what PBD does for tuning their F150 5L trucks, but I hope they're running a custom flex tune that will self adjust as there is no reason not to use this awesome gift that Ford gives to 5L F150 unless a tuner is just wanting you to keep coming back to them to spend more on tuning.
      But with all that out the way STFU about S550 > S650 because in a year you be commenting all over YT about how a S650 MGT is so much better than any of its competitors, and how this guy ran this in one, and if you just do this and that mod you'll be making 800 WHP reliably on a factory sealed engine, etc. Then if Ford ever comes out with a S750 Mustang you'll be like, "It's a POS! The S650 is the best Mustang ever, and way better than the S750." Y'all do that chit all the time. You constantly change your minds. "I hate the 18 Mustang. The 15-17 look way better." "The 19 Silverado is ugly as chit." "Ecoboost F150 can never be as good as a V8." After a year or 2 every one of these opinions y'all have flip. At least I stay consistent. I've always preferred the 18 Mustang design to the 15-17. I've always thought the 19 Silverado 1500 was a handsome truck, while the 19+ Sierra styling was ugly. I've always thought a 3.5L turbcharged high compression V6 running 12-13 PSI from the factory would make power to be competitive with sub 6L SB V8's made to run reliability on 87 octane. I've also always know that boosted OEM engines tune well as I've owned a Terminator for almost 2 decades and an 03 Lightning for 1.5 decades. No the issue with Ecoboost in F150 is it's gay. Using a boosted V6 to replace a V8 is just gay. If you're gay then rock out. I don't buy into Ecoboost simply because I do not like it. If you're Spock then Egoboost makes sense. If you're Kirk they suck. Ol'e dude might give the best head in the world, if he's rocking an X/Y chromosome, he ain't giving me head. With Egoboost the juice just isn't worth the squeeze, and I've said that since it was introduced in 2010. Yes it will make power, but it gay, and I'm not, and so I will not sell out to it as I simply don't like it, and these trucks are too expensive to buy something and dislike it that much. Also I've always thought a C7 looked like a Gallardo ran up behind a C6 and butt raped it, and after the Lambo sperm mixed with the Vette poo, the C7 is what dropped out of that union. Yeap, still not a fan of the C7 look, but loved the old C6 look.
      Hope you enjoyed that long read. You really need to quit clowning on the S650. I don't like it, but I don't like S550's either, but it's good that Ford still makes a V8 Mustang. Just get it with a 10R80. Ford should be ashamed of themselves charging the prices they do for this car, and then forcing a MT82 on you as a M6 offering in a Mustang GT. A $34K Camaro LT1 gets you an awesome TR6060 that's 10x's better than any MT82. In a DH the M6 is a viable option. Plus the 10R80 is just so damn good that to offer a M6 that's known to be crap in a $44K base car is some BS. They must be trying to kill the manuals. Plus TR6060 = Merika, and MT82 = China.

    Really looking forward to some of the A10 shifting from the S650 making its way to the S550. Even with a tune, the daily drive shifting is not great.

      Bro my s650 A10 with 3.55 gears feels like it already has a tune. It’s so smooth and puts power down well. 600 miles and I’m beating the crap out of it, no complaints. If I leave in 5th gear and come to a stop, won’t budge me or anything just nicely comes down to 1st gear like it was in auto instead of it in manual. Love it

    Ken how close are y’all to getting the computer unlocked ? I have a DH and like everyone else I’d like to get more performance , it’s just how us gear heads are . Thanks for your videos .

      @@timweb1510 Tim I respect your commitment. My decision to buy a DH was my choice. Was it a mistake? Only time will tell . I can say the 2023 Shelby Off Road Truck that I bought was a mistake, I lost my Ace on that deal . The Shelby did not hold its value at all .

      @@jameshows5419 don't listen to haters, they all carried on the same way when the S550 came out. The Dark Horse will be a beast on the road once they can tune it and everyone will be loving it and out to get one. The good thing about the DH is the coyote engine, it's extremely reliable and it will be able to handle all the power that is thrown at it. Enjoy your car.

      The cylinder heads are the same
      The cams are very different the gen 4 GT cams are 13mm, the dark horse nobody’s knows other than they’re more aggressive

    Consider this in your tuning tables ,,,,,,The dark horse was designed and built for road courses not drag strips . The GT is .
    Maybe this is why your timing and temps are so different?

    The s650 gt and dark horse look nice and i like the interior but stock for stock they both lose to their predecessors sadly when it comes to the drag strip and roll racing. Kinda sucks knowing you’ll lose to the older car in a roll race 😅😢

      well depends on driver. i raced my friends fbo 23 gt and i beat him by 2 cars and kept pulling. and my 24 gt is bone stock just carbon traps removed thats it. getting all my bolt on stuff coming in, i will be getting a hpt or sct for it too when its avalible. hopefully Palm Beach Dyno gets all the dyno stuff so they can tune mine.

    So many haters. I will laugh my ass off if we can tweak the cam timing and add some ethanol blend/timing to pick up 25whp and 500 more rpm out of the darkhorse. Essentially make it just as fast or faster than the gt350 with no part changes. lol time will tell. All i can say is i am happy with the interior/exterior changes to the new car. Glad to see a faster steering ratio too which it needed imo

    Call it what it is, it's not a bad car but Ford put LoJack on the car. They control what you can and can't do to the car. When I pay my money for a car I own it, it's mine to do as I see fit. If I want to drive it off a cliff it's my car my choice, that's what I'd do with this weak s650 piece of 💩. Ford took the excitement out of the mustang and left us with a gelding.
    I pulled my engine and sent it to RPG for a stage 3 rebuild with my 20 gt350r at only 2500 miles. (3 months off the show room floor) I done the same with my 22 gt500 carbon. Sent them to my favorite tuner, boom now both are hitting 1000+rwhp mark on e-85 easily. Why should I have to wait to add power and tune a car I own? Wait for what? Personally the s650 isn't worth my time, energy or my money.
