You can tell by looking at Richard when a head to head question was a tough one: he looks legit flustered trying to figure the the answer he believes will win...
Well, we're two days into the week without a single winning H/H match yet. We've got some unfamiliar faces on the panel, with Dwayne Hickman and Carol Lawrence being new. Marcia Wallace is becoming a familiar semi-regular, but hasn't been chosen yet, so remains somewhat an unknown quantity. (Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to choose her for the H/H match.) Gary matched the one time he was selected. That leaves Brett and Richard as the familiar faces with decent track records for the contestants to select from. Richard has been chosen all 3 times so far this week, but now he's on a cold streak and missed all 3. Here's the updated leader board showing the 10 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: TIE: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 50% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Fannie - 46.2% (6 wins in 13 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 34.9% (66 wins in 189 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Brett - 32.1% (9 wins in 28 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 387, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Fun to see Dwayne Hickman. Dobie Gillis right? Richard sure disappointed himself whenever he got a head to head match wrong, let alone throw the right answer away. The pressure he was under by this time, being picked more and more often, to be right, had to have been immense -- and only got worse as time continued. No wonder by 76 when he was doing both am and pm Match Game AND Family Feud, he was truly upset when MG wouldn't let him out of his contract.
My answer for the stuffed moose was she tried to throw it away. Once again when all else fails go with the wife answer. Who else knew that keep your cool was the 500 dollar answer?
"Cool" was my first thought. I don't know where Brett came up with "hat", but "keep your knickers/shorts/pants on" or "keep your shirt on" would have been good.

One of the reasons Richard Dawson hated Brett Somers so much was because she was in the habit of walking all over other people's punchlines. In "the business", that's called, "heckling", when someone in the audience does it but when another cast member does it, it's called "upstaging" and it's considered EXTREMELY rude... which, I suppose, accurately describes Brett Somers.
She gave an interview later on in life and the feeling was mutual. She seemed to imply that the others felt the same way about Richard. She certainly didn't want him getting all the attention and being the most popular with the contestants
I had a few pair of the checkered pants. First and second grade. 72-74. I don't remember wearing any 3rd grade Sept 74- May 75. Guessing they were either popular for those couple years or my Mom just liked them?
Yes I'm sure at least a 100 times. Brett was a drunk and drunks get mean and talkative when they've had too much. In a way the show created the atmosphere by hosting an open bar.
Not a lot of animation fans on the panel, I guess, or both "Lucky Luke" and "Flukey Luke" would have been possible answers. It isn't likely that the survey audience would have come up with either, though. "Lucky Luke" was a cowboy character that first appeared in the 1940s, while "Flukey Luke" was a cowboy character on the "Milton the Monster" cartoon of the 1960s (and probably an homage to "Lucky Luke").
Childhood was my first thought. I often don't match Richard. ---- I think he asked for the clarification re: child vs child's because he was thinking of "child's play."
These weird contestants that pick Richard didn't they watch the show??? - his average is poor at getting it right. But they obv aren't picked for intelligence

HAHAHAHAHA saint Richard CONSTANTLY (which is AWESOME), but I don't know if he's done it 3 times in a ROW! at least not in 74-75 (we I KNOW how horrible he was in 73)!

I love how Richard really put his heart into giving the winning answer
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bob had 2 tough questions.
On this date in 1976, the tv game show Family Feud hosted by Richard Dawson aired it's first episode on ABC.
There's a picture of me floating around somewhere wearing a pair of pants like Gene has on. What can I say. I grew up in the 70's ✌
I wore something very similar to my high school prom. I thought it looked sharp at the time!
Think about it: In 2020 seeing this is like in 1975 looking back to 1930!
I'm wondering if Bradley, in his 50s, lurks here and watches this and episode 386 to have Richard Dawson greet him
Well, there's one difference. In 2020 I remember 1975, but in 1975 I could not have remembered 1930. I'm not Old Man Periwinkle! Not yet, anyway.
@@christinao1787 lol that would be so 😎
Opening from Richard and Marcia refers to the previous show...
"RUG" Burn. I'm sure we've ALL had a few of these over the years ✌
I had 'cigarette burn', too.
I thought sun first

Hmm I believe Family Feud didn't premiere until July 12, 1976.. And the Synd in Sept 77.. And yes he was...
I agree with you 100% Mary Woodruff. Can’t imagine that kind of pressure.
He sure beat himself up over not getting it right. I honestly don't know how he stood the pressure I wouldn't want it.
no matter the situation, always go with your gut instinct

Interesting comment Gene makes about Brett's job at 10:39.
He fought for her to be 9n there per jk request. Jack and him were good friends

My answer to the fly paper question is 'toupee'.
The best answer to the flypaper question is...his pants 👖🤨
I was expecting at least one pet to show in the answers
"Tiger", Brett? That's an _Asian_ creature, not an African one!
There are no tigers in Africa? I didn’t know that, you can learn something new everyday, thank you 🙏🏻
File that with penguins at the North Pole (a frequent MG response).

She also just plain interrupted people quite a bit. That's also quite rude. I don't blame Richard for hating that.

Richard was the only one who kept his cool when called upon for a H to H match. That was why he was called upon so often.

I had cigarette burn.
I had sunburn
I had sideburn. 😜
Rayburn. .🤪🤪😂
Yea, my favorite suit of Gene's, sorry to see this is probably last time it will be on. sigh..

Gene is representing the 70s with that suit! It was very on point. I had a similar suit for my prom which was 1977.
Do you think Gene was serious when he said that he saved Brett's job 100 times?

Marcia Wallace looks painfully thin here-was she ill?
Her Wikipedia page says that she battled bulimia at some point in her life, but I don't know when that happened.
marcia seems so tired and not like herself here. shes also very thin, im glad she got better from her bullimia.
I noticed that she hadn't been looking very well. I had no idea that she was bulimic. I thought she was just thin.
Trying not to regain pounds
Dwayne or Darrell?
I'm sure Bret will keep making her rude remarks twisting the knife . She was just nasty. ( C'mon Leesa don't cry)
I can't see her findfing a reason to be different. Gene just told her how much he loves her and that he saved her job 100 times.
Can you freaking leave me alone. Come on now this is a freaking joke. Stop it stop it STOP it. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Second time winning and he has $300. How is it possible?
You got $100 each time you win a round so $100 + $100 for two rounds =$200. Then then must've matched the $100 audience match.
