There are certain parts of Spain (spercially in the Northeast) with Celtic culture/History/folklore like Galicia or Asturias. The Spanish group is from Asturias, so that's the reason why you think it sounds celtic. Spain is very diverse and every region has its own characteristics.

The ethnic music in the north of Spain is similar to the Irish. It is celtic music too.

Galicia and Asturias are historically Celtic cultures, though the native Celtic language died out way back in the era of the Reconquista. We all know that Isabella and Ferdinand were some vicious people, and they probably made sure to stamp anything like that out while forcibly reuniting Spain.

I was there in 2013. Yes you can drink alcohol, but it's Sweden AND Eurovision, alcohol is very expensive. So most people bought drinks on entry and then stayed to watch the show. There are no breaks long enough to go to the concessions to buy more alcohol and after you have spent $1000's for flights, hotels, tickets etc... you don't want to miss anything. The atmosphere is always incredible inside the arena but it's a marathon not a sprint. This ain't Coachella.

Just for Lauren and Mike information, Linda Woodrof (the funny lady and EBU spokesperson) is Sarah Dawn Finer, actually a well known singer and comedian from Sweden, and former participant and host of Melodifestivalen (the swedish national selection for Eurovision). One of my favorite artists, I must say. I am pretty sure she made an intevral act during one of the semi finals in 2013 and sang an ABBA song.

I couldn't get anyone to go to Malmö with me so was watching on my tablet, on shakey internet in an tent in a forrest in the wrong part of Sweden, with a music festival going on behind me. Drunk people passing by, stopping to see what was going on and staying for a few songs. Pretty magical actually. I love Kedvesem, I don't understand any of the words but still sing it, it was my standout from this year.

In 2005 he participated in the Eurovision Song Contest with the delegation which brought Greece in the first place. He has directed the songs of numerous foreign artists that participated in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan and winning some of the first places or ending in Top 10. :-)

You're my favorite esc related channel thanks to Lauren and Mike who are just amazing haha. So, next up is 2014, huh, the year with the bad sound quality even in the grand final that was uploaded on November 2019 (though it's a bit better than what it was).
I know it's not possible but there are a lot of gems that were lost in semi finals mainly because they weren't mainstream or just who knows, like Bulgaria 2013 and both Albania 2011 and 2013. I know it's not possible for them to watch them now buuut maybe you can show them the NQs of a year in future videos? If they're not tired of ESC by then haha.

He was also a backing singer, and composer of Russia´s entry in 2015 ("A Million Voices), Moldova´s entry in 2016 ("Falling Stars), and Norway´s entry in 2016 ("Icebreaker")

The mixture of great voice, great show, great dancers, the trashy popbeat in the backround and a little bit of surprise is just art. Perfect example for eurovision: It’s not for everbody but you can’t deny that every song is a little piece of art.

    1) Ralf Gyllenhammar - Bed on Fire ua-cam.com/video/vAGE2V6-k70/v-deo.html
(Ralf is the lead singer in a famous metal/rockband Mustasch whose albums topped at #2 2011 and #4 2012 in Sweden)
    2) Ulrik Munther - Tell the World I'm Here ua-cam.com/video/JDDl71G9ixQ/v-deo.html
(Ulrik was a kid performer that won the Nordic Junior "Eurovision Song Contest" in 2009 and had since then released albums that reached #1 in Sweden)
One can also ad that Robin did NOT win the Second Chance round. There he got second place behind:

"Alcohol Is Free" is a song performed by Koza Mostra (a Greek rock band) and Agathonas Iakovidis (a Greek folk singer of rebetiko style). Was composed as a mix of ska, punk and rebetiko music styles. The British Daily Mirror newspaper called it "certifiably brilliant madness".

The Icelandic song is about a loved one helping him overcome anything. "I have a life because of you, when the wind blows in my face I'll climb a mountain because of you", roughly translated. Mind you I don't think the beauty of the song would translate well, but then again I am Icelandic so that makes sense. :) I do think they did a poor job of visuals in the final though. Even with the song being in Icelandic, they could have added visuals in the background that aided with people understanding the song. Producers here are just so worried about "taking attention away from the singer" that we end up with dull visuals and that's half the competition. Anyway, I'll stop ranting now.

The Swedish entry was not the most popular here. The song that got the most votes was “Heartbreak hotel” by YOHIO. He’s a Japanese inspired singer who was massively popular but the juries didn’t vote for him because he was less commercial.

Germany was Cascada a EDM trio they still make music till this day not mainstream but they had at that time hits like Evacuate the Dancefloor(2009) and Glorious(2006) were there big hits but they still were relevant in Germany and the Benelux at that time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascada_discography

The group from Spain was from Asturias, a region in the north with a Celtic past. The bagpipe is a traditional Celtic instrument and so it is very popular and significant in northern Spain. It is true that it is often related to Ireland and Scotland but it actually has more to do with Celtic culture. I recommend you all to listen to "Busindre Reel" a song by Hevia (an Asturian bagpiper), you will sure like it.
    Greetings from Asturias (Spain)

2016 is my favourite. Especially cause Sweden hosted again. I'm pretty sure I know like 95% of songs

I know you're American but it's not that hard to do some research.
Sign language from the beginning is REALLY important for Sweden. Swedish Sign Language (Svenskt teckenspråk or SSL) is the sign language used in Sweden. It is recognized by the Swedish government as the country's official sign language, and hearing parents of deaf children are required to learn it.

Only two off them are amarican and they made the commentarryon the fly there was no preperation and the european in the group even forgot about that part so if you dont remember it there is no way you would google it before starting the recording right?
and it also is no common knowledge either
only if you are really into swedish culture or sign languages there might be a chance you know

I remember talking about the then upcoming Eurovision with my mother and my brother's dad in 2013. I made a comment saying we (the UK) weren't going to win, my mother got all defensive asking "What's wrong with Bonnie Tyler?", and my brother's dad turned round and said "She may of been good in the 80's, but hearing that song the other day, i've heard frogs sing better than her". I think that's the best way I could ever describe her performance.

well the cascada girl was the same and she is not that old
i guess for cascada it was the problem that it was not on the same level was everytime we touch or evercuade the danceflor
it really was a meh song
and bonnie tyler well beside her voice being a bit older and maybe out of practice the song was also compleatly diffrent from waht shes known for
if she wrote it her self then thats cause the charachter and idears of every human change with the ange but still it was not suiting her
imagine miley cyrus with her destroyed voice would choose to sing disney pop instad of rock that wouldent sound right

Fun fact... the name of the Icelandic song "Ég á líf" sounds really close to Russian phrase "Ехал лифт" ("The elevator was going", or something like that). That was a name Russian ESC fans used for this song.

it was my very first year of finding a way to watch it (delayed) online. I feel 100% in love with Aliona Moon and "O Mie". It actually inspired me to learn some Romanian. I've made connection with her on Twitter back then wnd now we have been Facebook freind for about 5 years (along with Pasha Parfeny, the composer [Moldova 2012 singer] and Yulian Scutaru, the lyricist - and now Pasha's wife).

This might be way too big of an ask, but is there any way you could also upload the uncut versions of these videos? I love them but all the cuts sort of lessens the Eurovision experience for me somehow. All the, quote; unquote, boring parts actually adds to the je ne sais quoi of the show.
