I started out in retail. They trained me to become a pharmacy technician from a pharmacy associate. Once I passed my state, I left for a clinical Pharmacy Tech position that paid more. Worked there for 3 years then went to a hospital. Obtained my national pharmacy tech license within my first few months of employment there. I have been working overnights at the hospital now for 9 years. I make more than $24/ hour plus weekend/night differential. I’m thankful I was able to get this pay while not having a college degree and also while having children. I’m finally back in school (my children are older now) and planning on attending nursing school next Spring. I cannot see myself anywhere else but the healthcare field.
Techs do more then mentioned in the video. I compound infusions, chemo agents and oral medication. After 9 years experience I make $15 and that's considered good money.
Q. I How much do pharmacy tech make? A. Not a lot. Unfortunately, the pay rate for what we do and have to deal with is not a lot. Just like cna work there asses off for not a whole lot of dough.
I have been indecisive about which career choice I should choose for the medical field for 6 years. This channel has made it so much easier for me, thank you!

I went through an accredited program and got a few months experience at a retail chain working part time making 10.40 as a CPhT. I spent months even before graduating and becoming certified actively trying to get my foot in the door at a hospital. I got on at a hospital as a prn tech but got a steady 40hrs a week, Ive been prn for 5 months and just now got full time since I had to wait for an opening. I make 11.50/12.50 at the hospital. I have gained a lot of knowledge and hands on experience and school really helped build a good foundation for me in the real world.
+DoramaRx I'm going back to school now and I was leaning towards pharmacy tech as my major. Now you're saying that you only make $11 which is what I already make without a degree. That's crazy, pharmacy tech is a no go!
+takiawilliamson1 don't get me wrong, being a tech is a great career. Also keep in mind that i work for Wal-Mart. Other pharmacies may pay more. Also im not a CPhT yet either, they also get paid more
