So glad you at least achieved your two opening objectives, not to fall into the canal nor to be murdered. ✔️ ✔️ 😂 I do love a canal walk. The route finding is always easy, the terrain is flat and often the scenery is lovely. It was a brave challenge. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👍😎
42 miles is no way a failure!! That’s impressive, I walk regularly doing about ten miles on my route, takes about 2.30 hours and that’s more than enough for me, well done!!👍
SteveMarsh cheers Steve, the canals looked really nice too, I’m from Birmingham so I’ve done lot’s of canal walking, I’m living in Taipei at the moment with the wife’s job but there’s some cracking riverside walks here so I’m enjoying that too.
No failure at all. You did well. Walking over 60km/day is nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, you walked through beautiful landscape and you took us with you. Thank you for all this. Greetings from Bavaria 😊💙🏴🖐👍
This was the first of Steve's videos I watched gave me the inspiration to get off my couch I ended up walking the length of the Union and Forth of Clyde canal to Bowling in sections it's a worthwhile walk
@fraserhamilton-nf4dk a friend and I walked from Edinburgh to Bowling too - since that’s where the Forth and Clyde Canal meets the sea, we (and you) could say we’d walked across Scotland. We called our Journey “ Across Scotland on the Instalment Plan”. It was a really exciting trip, full of unexpected adventures. Then we decided we’d have to walk from the Fountainbridge Canal Centre to Leith…
Steve - good evening. 42 1/2 miles is absolutely NOT a failure! That's extremely impressive and not many people would have the stamina to do what you did. My hat is off to you, if I was wearing one LOL! We really don't know what we can accomplish unless we try. I never thought I could climb the CN Tower in Toronto (I live in the next city over) when you could do so for charity but I ended up doing it 12 years in a row! Keep up the great videos!
Wow! What an impressive journey. The walking in pitch dark and being dumped out onto a roadway was scary. I really enjoyed seeing the canal walkways, the wildlife and beautiful area. Hope your feet are recovered by now.
So glad you at least achieved your two opening objectives, not to fall into the canal nor to be murdered. ✔️ ✔️ 😂 I do love a canal walk. The route finding is always easy, the terrain is flat and often the scenery is lovely. As for the Falkirk Wheel…… wow, fantastic engineering 👌 Overall, it was a brave challenge. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👍😎
Steve, my admiration for your effort! I've walked most of the Union Canal between Edinburgh and Falkirk, but I did it one segment at a time - five days I believe. I DO endorse the canal walk for any of your viewers. The aquaducts and views across the Forth are a great experience.
I am truly in awe of your videos, I spent some time in Scotland during my younger years so I know the landscape up there in Scotland is already amazing however you seem to have an incredibly artistic skill for capturing the natural beauty of Scotland. Particularly in the Edinburgh to Glasgow in a day video, your cinematography is worthy of many professional lighting cameramen in the film industry. Well done sir I have subscribed and I look forward to more of your excellent videos.
That's so kind of you to say! Gives me inspiration to get out there again soon. However the Scottish weather right now wouldn't give any nice shots that's for sure! Cheers for the sub :)
Steve, I'm offended at the 'urban area that's not so nice' as you walk past my house in Polmont at 4:16! Seriously though, the canal is a cracking walk. Fair play!
Another great video with laughter and beauty. 👍👍👍 I LOVE that I subscribe to the travel guy that got lost in the town he was born in. ❤❤❤ Google maps loves to have a go at us, doesn't it.
Steve Just watching your older videos and I was amazed at your strength and tenacity, I certainly wouldn’t call that walk a failure it was a fantastic effort. Some people would be planning for months to complete that distance. I myself have attempted to walk from London to Brighton and failed after around 43 miles in 1982. These walks were done by the London stock exchange and American banks for 50 years or more. All for charity
Congratulations of over 5000 subscribers! Ohhh the path is awesome, we should do it on the bikes! All your effort was worth to see such a beautiful sunrise☀️ I’m super proud of You!!!😚
Superb video. Sometimes I think we are on the same wavelength. Around ten years ago I looked at the possibility of walking Glasgow to Edinburgh, and decided it was a 'maybe'. Last year I looked at this again and decided 'maybe not'. Your video has made me think it's a 'maybe possibly but probably not'. Well done on what you achieved.
Cheers Scott - totally agree, we have the same kind of ideas for sure! I think you could do it - a good bit fitter than me, and I've seen all your long walks thinking 'no way could I do that!'
Well, that was great. I was looking for the first video but I'm a walker, not a rambler or hiker, but a walker. I had to stop and watch this. Great attempt. Not a failure at all. I reckon it would take fifteen hours of walking without stops, a minimum of two hours of stops and another two hours of getting lost and delays. Well done.
That headache you had hardly came from the sun, I'd say. You were plainly and simply exhausted, Mate! But, heck, what a magnificent countryside! Absolutely beautiful!
It was very entertaining. It was a good walk and I enjoyed watching it (and your other videos) while sitting lazely at my home in Canada. My Grandparents were born and raised in Glasgow and came to Canada in their 20's. If they were alive today I'm sure they would have loved watching your videos.
I have done Broxburn- Edinburgh and Broxburn - Falkirk but not done Falkirk - Edinburgh in one go. Wouldn't try all the way to Glasgow, that would kill me. Shame canal closed and you missed the laughin' /greetin' Bridge and tunnel into Falkirk. The aqueduct is second largest in UK, you were probably too knackered to have went down for a shot. Great vlog👍
Cheers mate! Hopefully NEXT TIME the canal will be open and I’ll see it :) yup, there definitely be a next time, but maybe on 2 wheels to make it a little bit easier! Some cracking walks along that canal though, had never been before at all!
Superb Steve -my mate and l walked from Inverewe to do so some Munro’s and back in a day -38 miles and completely knackered -my beer tasted like Metal !
Years ago when i was much younger me and friends completed the Monklands Walk from Edinburgh to Coatbridge, Glasgow. The charity walk was done over 3 days and I was done in and so was my knee afterwards.
This was the first of your videos that I watched. No ego, just a guy trying to challenge himself, and accepting his limitations. I'd rather watch that than someone telling how great they are. ( When I lived in Falkirk, I used to cycle a fair whack of the route.)
@@steve-marsh I thought you chose a really hard route, and, you started in Edinburgh, not on the boundary. Plus you had the Falkirk detour. Then you had the extra trip to Cumbernauld station. It wasn't a fail.
I think this walk is very successful. Maybe a high-quality trainer with excellent support is the way to go. Congratulations on making it as far as you did.
I took my bike serviced in juniper green, hoping to ride from Union Canal to Glasgow next week. Admire you gave it a go regardless of what lies ahead! Well done! This surely a success!
That brought back memories. Thanks. I did the Glasgow 2 Edinburgh running event the same month. You definitely got better weather, but we didn't have that diversion. I was hoping you'd see the Kelpies. I live in Ireland and have never seen them. Love your videos
In my late 40’s I did 19 miles along the Caledonian canal from a lodge to Fort William and back. Thought it was a good idea made it fine back to the lodge but realised I had reached my limit or just that spot where I’d had enough and wanted a coffee and just to sit down. I’ve cycled 50 miles round trip a few years ago and that was hard enough.
I'm same age and you are so right, knowing your limit is important, especially for enjoyment of it. I'd like to get a bike now for sure. Cheers for watching :)
Steve, you walked a comparable distance as the Fort William to Tyndrum segment of the West Highland Way! Hope you savoured all the scenic vistas of Cumbernauld upon your arrival. Unfortunate that the washout of the Union Canal near Polmont resulted in your tedious diversion, and no doubt contributed to your exhaustion by journey's end. Well done for attempting such an ambitious adventure on foot, especially all in one day! Health and peace.
Cheers Kevin, haha Cumbernauld is the same as I remember! Yeah, that diversion really was a nightmare - needed everything to go perfectly to even have a chance! (maybe a bike next time eh?!) Thanks for watching and all the best to you!
Well done Steve, great effort. Reminded me of watching “The Sweeney” Reagan and Carter didn’t always catch the crooks! Really enjoy watching your videos from Edinburgh, my home town too. 👍
