The problem isn't SUV convertibles, it's CROSSOVER convertibles that are bad. Just think... All the greatest 4x4 SUVs had removable hard or soft tops. The Wrangler, the original Military Jeep, the Toyota FJ40, the Land Rover series, the Ford Bronco, even Humvese have removable or folding tops.
@@AkioWasRight True that, but most of the vehicles you listed shouldn't be classified as SUVs, but offroad vehicles. I will not talk semantics, though. This T-Roc is an abomination like most crossovers of modern SUVs.

Um ehrlich zu sein verstehe ich die ganzen negativen Kommentare nicht wirklich. 🤔
Jeder, der sich mit Autos auskennt weiß, dass SUV´s derzeit so nachgefragt sind wie keine andere Autoklasse. Ich glaube, dass das T-Roc Cabriolet seine Käufer finden wird - was den Preis angeht liegt er ja nämlich deutlich unterhalb des Evoque Cabriolet. 👍

Das sehe ich auch so. Ich denke, ein offener Geist ist erforderlich. Manche mögen das vielleicht, andere nicht. Es gibt vielleicht eine kleine Nische für diesen Typ. Genau wie beim Golf Cabrio wissen wir es nicht. Keine Notwendigkeit für negative Kommentare. Es ist nicht mein Autotyp, aber ich freue mich über jedes interessante Auto. Grüße an Holger. @@autogefuehl Das mag ja sein, aber wie man es in den Kommentaren sieht finden es viele hässlich. Warum nicht seine Meinung sagen, sicher wird es ein paar Leute geben die sowas haben wollen, warum auch immer.
Ich glaube, er hat gesagt: "Wenn Sie ein Cabrio wollen, warum nicht". Ja, es gibt viele Hasser in den Kommentaren. Eine größere Frage: Warum Hass? Warum etwas hassen? Warum Autos hassen? Wir sind Autoliebhaber! Wir interessieren uns für Autos. Wir wollen nicht unbedingt jedes Auto. Wir wollen nicht jedes Auto kaufen. Aber wir mögen Autos! Autos sind interessant.

@@komentierer FYI: I don't like DeMuro's channel so your attempt at being edgy is invalid. Also, convertible crossovers/softroaders are still a terrible idea no matter which car company tries to capture a market that nobody asked for.

It doesn't have to be for everyone. If it appeals to you, then that's okay. And I think it looks good in Thomas blue! :)

I am one of those dedicated VW CONVERTIBLE owners 91 Rabbit currently drive a 2010 EOS . I am looking forward to seeing this in real life and I kind a like what I see so far would’ve preferred a hard top roof or targa roof.
I think it looks funny. Bit weird maybe, but I think it would be fun to see them drive around. I like it when car brands makes weird cars. As always, it was a pleasure to watch.

This is just a chunky Golf Cabrio, it even has the chunky stubby styling the cabrio has always had, it’s fine by me
🤔mmmmmm?.....I’m actually one of those people who like odd cars. I liked the Murano Cabriolet(except the build quality wasn’t great), I liked the Evoque convertible, I like the X6, GLE coupe etc. I think it’s quite cool. I’m surprised that people don’t have a more fun taste in cars and to be honest it’s not so weird as you might think. I mean, cars and convertibles in the 30s and 40s and even part of the 50s, were the size of SUVs today. Take for instance a 1940 Buick Special Convertible or a 1938 Hudson Convertible or a1930 Lincoln Sport Roadster(this thing was a ROADSTER that was the size of a SUVs). I think people just need to be more open. I think if Mercedes made a AMG convertible SUV, no one would complain.

I've been wondering about this ever since I heard it was on the cards. Thanks for this review - it answers a lot of my questions.
Its not very pretty, the side profile seems very wrong but I can see why they've done it like that, to accommodate the folding roof and give it a usable boot. For me it ticks a lot of boxes - a quick uncomplicated roof mechanism, usable rear seats and boot, rearward visibility looks OK. But I would want a bigger engine, I suspect the 1.5 will give 0-62 just under 9 secs, not enough.
As someone else said the T-Roc is not an SUV just a jacked up Golf and for that reason it might work, as a substitute for the Golf convertible. We'll see.

At first glance it looks funny , like a child's toy sort of .But on closer inspection I think I looks kinda cool.Like that blue color.

Was the Evoque that much of a success that VW decided to follow?
I think the straight waistline running all the way from front to rear looks wrong. It would look better if it had a slight uplift towards the rear like the T-Cross Breeze concept car did. Likewise that curved body line over the rear wheel arch looks odd and would look better if the body line running down the side also had an uplift following the waistline like the Breeze had.
Perfect car to hire for a week or so on holiday in the South of France 😊 I wonder then if they'll do an Audi Q2 Cabriolet now?

What the he......?!?! Mad. I like the aT Roc styling but this is a little strange looking, how about VW make a three door model instead?
I look at that car and what I can see is a Little bit of Beetle Cabrio, a little bit of Golf Mk3 Cabrio and even a little bit of Dacia Logan from the front. At the end, I am a little bit skeptical about the succes of such a car! Congrats for the review though!

Usually i write comments for good Restaurants in Berlin , but i cant resist to write also about this very clever car !! If they will put Haldex and 300 ps under the bonnet ...it will be a cabrio /Jeep without competitor. I Roua Mat from VolksWagen !!
I'm not the only one who has thought it is a joke... but it isn't. :-D However, the R-Line version looks quite nice.

cloth seats in a convertible... you have a rain accident once -> you need to replace all seats due to mold no matter how hard you try to dry them... been there once -> leather or better synthetic leather is the way to go
The roof and side windows are identical to the ones on the mk6 golf / Audi A3 cabriolet 🤷🏻♂️

A guaranteed sales flop right here, if a luxury brand like Range Rover couldn’t sell a convertible SUV what chance does a sub premium brand like VW have.
Price point will attract a different market compared to Evoque and Murano. Hoping to see T-roc convertible Stateside as the Beetle will be discontinued at the end of this model year.

They should fire who ever had this thought to make a convertible small SUV. Previously Rang Rover failed with the Evoque so I do not think VW will succeed either with this.

This looks ridiculous to my eyes. After an SUV, I've just bought a BMW 4 series convertible for a few years of open top motoring. With it's metal roof, good looks both open and closed, it was the only mid range car for us. This T Roc has none of those advantages, why did VW bother? Not many Freelander convertibles on the road!
