Thanks Thomas for this test, finally something fresh and interesting from VW, I see you enjoy cabrios like I do, so yeah we are a dying breed lol, there are no cabrios anymore with normal pricing, so I'm very happy that this concept was approved ! One mx-5 for fun, and one of this for cruising :)

Hi Tomas, Thanks for these great videos. Wouldn't it be great if at the end of the videos you could add an onscreen list / columns of the Fuel consumption and any other specs plus one or two competitors specs.

I like this car. My first two cars have been convertibles (after I stopped going around in motorcycles) and I drove them roof down 80% of the time, including in winter in Germany. Simply loved it. Now close to early retirement but still feeling very young the T-roc Cab really attracts my attention: enough space for four (or two plus the dog) if really needed on short stretches, enough luggage space (fold away rear seats) for short holiday trips with my better half or on my own. Decent alternatives are all much more expensive, such as Audi A2, BMW 2, Mercedes. Evoque (never like that look though). Your perfect every day short distance open top car. Will get one.
You have the beat job in the world. Great review and I love the car.

As long as it is better executed than the Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet, I have no problem with it. I wish they had used the hard top convertible design from the Eos. Not exactly my cup of tea. Thanks for another great review.

Wrong, it replaces the Beetle Cabrio that VW decided to discontinue
It actually looks quite decent with the top down, especially the side profile but with the roof up it just looks silly for the lack of a better word.

Why?
As is the case with a number of VW products, we won't be seeing this (or any other T-Rocs for that matter) here in North America. The only roughly comparable vehicle I can recall in the US was the Nissan Murano Cabriolet that disappeared a few years ago. For those who think T-Roc cabriolet is a monstrosity, the Murano was far, far worse.
Compare this with the original sketchs of the T-roc. One thing is to make a futuristic design to look cool, and that is OK...but then producing a Y2K looking car with LED, terrific.
VW is all about cars that look 20 years older than they are. Even Seat and Skoda beat their parent company in terms of design.
Interesting concept to use the T-Roc for a convertible, probably the first convertible SUV in the world. But strange that VW still uses an 8 years old steering wheel of the 2012 Golf.
In general VW thoughts were probably to make the most out of the T-Roc platform with investing the least amount of money.
Buyers can't get surprised any longer - since the Nissan Juke v. 1. anything goes...
Beautiful classy design,,, I wish it was 4x4 too. It has a bigger boot than a Beetle convertible ! Why is everyone complaining!? ha...

Hi Thomas! I will go in Spain for 2 weeks this summer and my wife and my boys ( ages18 and 20) really want to rent a convertible. The only one I could find is exactly the car reviewed by you in this video. Since we will be four passengers (basically 4 adults) with probably 3 or 4 large suitcases (I'll try to convince my wife to reduce them to 3 :)), I have two questions for you:
1. Is this car suitable for 4 people?
2. Do you think we can cram in the trunk 3 (or at least 2) large suitcases (not cabin suitcases!) and the rest in the lap or at the feet of the rear passengers? The hotel is 25-30 km from the airport, a half an hour drive. I konw it's not practical but I was thinking that, for a little discomfort for those in the back seat, it will be worth it and it will be fun for the rest of the stay. I would be grateful for a quick reply. Thank you very much!

Hood and wind deflector/rear seats look like they’re straight out of the Mk6 Golf convertible.
I wish there was a hard top rather than a soft top just for safety reasons
Wondering what convertible to go for when I change my TT roadster. This interests me but looking on the UK VW site I'd say its overpriced and under powered, even with the 150 PS engine. On the other hand if they did with the 2.0 TSI 4 motion, like on the SUV, I'd be looking at over £40k and paying the luxury car tax surcharge as well.
It's shame that so many people (see other comments in this comment section) are so thickheaded just because this car is different.
It makes perfect sense. I know people who sold their MX-5 cause getting in and out of it's challenging for their backs as they age. But they still love convertible feel.
This car is good and I hope that other manufactures will also make more affordable convertibles. Like Suzuki, Skoda, Seat, Dacia,...
If Dacia would make and sell bare bones convertible for 7000GBP I would buy it even though I'm not fan of Dacia cars and I don't think 7000GBP Sandero it's bargain.

The cheap trim, the styling, the layout, that color...
I like it too. But for 25 k eur? Its cool and all but for me it makes no sence buying it new as i just finnished my masters degree. Ill look at a vw eos for 4k eur or a used bmw 4 series convertible for 17k eur. Eos is a very simmilar experience to this for 15% of the price and the bmw has allready done the depriciation and is waaaay cooler also 10k cheaper
On the + side it look better then the rover one

Lol, when I'm driving in the VW EOS with the top down on the highway and suddenly there was quick passing shower. I don't stop to get the top on, I simply drive faster.

NOBODY asked for this. Even JLR who manage to sell £60k Range Rovers that break down every thousand miles decided a convertible SUV was a bad idea and discontinued the Evoque cabriolet. What makes anybody at VW think they're going to sell any? This is hilarious!

If I wanted a higher ride and covertible I think I'd buy a Jeep and wouldn't lose the utility as in this concept. Making a T-Roc convertible takes out the U of SUV.

Thomas! Funny how a defect in a Volkswagen is not so bad compared to a foreign car! The interior is bland, hard plastic but everything is ok! I’m’not sure why?
I am getting bored with "you are German biased" comments really. I did criticize the hard pack dashboard and inside of the doors _three_ times in this review, don't you think that's enough? What I was also saying is that the build quality is good, that means there are no big gaps, no loose parts etc. There is build quality and material choice, what they have done here is that they have assembled it very well whereas they did cost savings in material choice at dashboard and inside of the doors. I try to be as precise as possible.
Autogefühl actually, it was one of the first time I had watched a test drive of a German car and then I realized you were much more picky with a French car for example, you did mention the hard plastic, yes, but then again, it doesn’t sound as bad for a VW! You find the excuses for a VW and not for a Peugeot for example! I like your test drives generally, they are in depth and thorough, but be careful sometimes, that’s all! And thanks for the swift reply!
@@autogefuehl I think you do fair reviews and I like German cars. Well until recently I did- VW seems determined to go very ugly and Mercedes went full-on garish a couple of years ago. Audis are now starting to get ugly. Chris Bangle ruined BMW styling.
German cars should have clean simple lines, understated interiors where form follows function. Most of the newer German cars seem to have lost that.

Volkswagen bitte macht den Innenraum hochwertiger. Plastik ist fantastik, aber nicht wenn man Premiumluft schnuppern will. Mein 4er Golf war von der Haptik Lichtjahre von dieser Hartplastiklandschaft entfernt. Wo wollt ihr hin ??? In den Plastikolymp ???? Für mich geht das gar nicht,,da hilft auch keine nette Hülle
