TROPICAL ESTUARY LURE FISHING - Barramundi and Mangrove Jack from the sticks

- Neap tides a week out from the barra closure, Dave and I decided to go looking for more current and hit up a smaller local estuary in search for some Barramundi and Mangrove Jack.
Fishing with hardbody lures we snaked our way through multiple small creeks casting into snags and shade pockets looking for our targets.
All in all an epic day on the water with plenty of fish and even more laughs.
Tackle used.
Rod - Dobyns Champion Extreme 702c
Reel - Conquest 200HG
Braid - 20lb Sunline Castaway
Leader - 40lb Sunline FC Rock
Lure - Lucky Craft Pointer 78XD
Hooks - BKK Viper #6

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

I like the pointer 78XD cos it gets down deep, fast! And it has a nice tight action! Very nice lure!!

Another great vid Mick, i noticed you dont pause on the retrieve, do these XD lures suspend?
Yeah mate, 2 x #6 BKK Vipers and #3 rings and they suspend in the salt. For this style of fishing I’m working the areas pretty quickly with the electric set to 2 or 3 so pausing the lure often results in a belly in the line and less feel. I keep the lure moving to work through the likely areas quite quickly and don’t show my lure to the same fish for too long so they don’t get time to think whether they want it or not..

Nice video again mate. Just wondering about the tide your fishing since most creek mouths run dry in Mackay at low tide if u go in at half out then fish until there is enough water to get back out again?
Thanks mate, that’s the struggle we gotta deal with here! I always plan my trips around the tide and am always factoring in a possible low tide stranding and knowing where I need to be when I get locked into certain systems. It doesn’t always pay off but I learn for the next time…
