I actually enjoyed the songwriting and the lyrics. The second song 'Era' really hit home with me. It's got me thinking about making some changes to my current situation, and not many songs do that for me. I'm not saying this is even my cup of tea, but it does have good elements and makes me think.
Yeah, I'm not hearing the issues you are. Sounds like an 80s album unearthed in 2024. Maybe 8ve just heard enough one man dungeon synth black metal to not hear the production issues Satan "apparently" has.
Cruel Magic is such a killer record. Great hooks, memorable songwriting, and the production is an excellent balance of a traditional 80s sound with modern clarity. Songs in Crimson is a step down in all those departments. It didn't viscerally bother me like it did Blayne, but I was still disappointed.
Cruel Magic is a masterpiece, it has the energy, the aggression and the passion of the band displayed all over the tracks, in this one, they really went a bit off, but at least it was better than their latest effort imo
It sounds like those early and very raw NWoBHM tapes we got back in the day. You can question that choice for sure but after 5-6 listens it doesn't really bother me too much. The performances and the songs are still really good though. It'll probably end up as my least favorite Ross-era Satan album, so I guess that means I kinda sorta agree with Blayne even if I don't want to. Still, can't wait to catch them live in about a weeks time 😊
Definitely the least of their comeback albums - still on the 'good to great' side of things, but man, with how good they've been over their career, it's definitely a letdown
This soubds like the first production someone self recording would pull from reaper (using only bative plug ins because doesnt know how to install more). Awesome band but it clearly needs production and engeneering redone, like, from scrath. It sounds like how a demo nowdays would sound
Can someone recomend me speakers for heavy metal, because evreything i tried is just made for jazz classical.... it sucks when my 10 years old phillips 2.1 pc speakers sound better than anything else i tried.
@@davisantos3431 i also tought so but most speakers above 500 euro are made for classical or jazz... i have bougt speakers like q acustics 330 i that are great but metal sounds terrible because they are too much reveling, and metal mostly isnt that great recorded so in all music stores they just say buy vintage on second market, but sadly i cant afford 2000 euros for vintage equipment, so i was just asking if guys on banger tv could recomend something thats good for metal.
Album art is "Covered Conveyor Bridge Grey Skull" lol Props to Blayne for jumping on this unfortunate production whoopsie of an album (so Dekay doesn't have to lol). Those cymbals! 😂
Weird, i kinda like the production. To me, it kinda has that late 90's demo tape vibe, which I kinda dig. Where i think they did fuck it up is in the mastering. For a mix this natural and dynamic, crushing it with a shit ton of bus compression and limiting doesn't sound good. It sounds like they're trying to have a demo quality mix, with modern loudness, and it doesn't work.
Initially i would have agrede about the production, but the album is going for an end of all things apocalyptic vibe and the raw production does lean into that. I can understand why it might be a deal breaker for some people, though. The songs are excellent and very more-ish. The least of the comeback albums, but still a very solid effort. Oh, and if you want better production try the same singers other band Blizkrieg - he released an album with them like a week ago and it is basically Satan with the prog elements stripped away and going pure 80s NWOBHM.
Ugghhh AI-vomit music video footage. Why, Satan, why? I found the record curiously flat. Haven't revisited it since the first time I spun it and likely won't give it another shot. Still jealous of your Century shirt Blayne!
Great songwriting but the production does it no good i think... Actually kinda unpleasant to listen to at times. I get the more raw style and approach but it's a miss for me aswell
Satan Production should be a Bit raw, but i think this record is way to compressed and the lead Guitar Sounds Like a fuckn Kazoo. Songs at First arent that memorable besides secramental rites, turn the tide and curse in disguise. After way more listens the other Songs klickt in a way for me, but more then 6.5-7/10 i cant give them for that one. Sadly their weakest one With Brian Ross. The new Blitzkrieg completely knocks it out of the Park for me.
One of my favourite albums from last year had some bad production... I can listen through it because the songs are so strong, but depending on the system, it's tough. This album isn't for me, but I hope people who enjoy it can still listen. Thanks, Blayne.
I haven't heard this one yet but their prior two albums were great. I'll take this guy's review with a huge grain of salt. He tends to like a lot of shitty poser bands.
The songs are actually good, but I agree that the sound is headache-inducing. I was waiting for them to break into Some Kind Of Monster, and then start crying. I have really liked these guys for decades, so I guess there had to be a misstep at some time. At least it's the production that hurts it for me and not the tunes. Same score from me - 2.5/5. Thanks for the review, Blayne!
Seen them two weeks ago, the band were tight and played a good set but the singers rants were so cringe, immigration and ‘the woke police’, calling people starting a pit at the front wankers “when you do that people watch you but nobody paid to watch you they paid to watch me!” Really took me out of it. The rest of the band looked embarrassed
I think the mix gives it character. It didn’t bother me
Sounds great! Love the production, love the songwriting. Satan are one of the most consistent heavy metal bands ever. NWOBHM Lives!!
I found the sound interesting. We are so used to every band having the same or almost the same sound nowadays…
I'm glad I don't hear what you hear.

Why does every metal band now feels obligated to include A/I imagery in their videoclips? That is so goddamn disappointing every time =(
no budget
Even worse, it looks like AI from over a year ago. Looks terrible. Nauseating
Doubt they have anything to do with it. Metal Blade puts the band on a green screen, and they have some intern do the rest on his laptop.
It's cheaper.
Money.
Production is rawer for sure, but it doesn't bother me. The songs are what counts and for the most part, they are excellent!
i like the production. sounds like it was recorded in the early 80s by a NWOBHM band. 4/5
Hell yes. They record like that on purpose to get that old school sound.
Yeah, I'm not hearing the issues you are. Sounds like an 80s album unearthed in 2024. Maybe 8ve just heard enough one man dungeon synth black metal to not hear the production issues Satan "apparently" has.
They deliver. As always
Wrong, man - this rules.
Did Blayne mention the production, I didn't catch it if he did.
Every satan album is treasure
“Listen to these drums” and then proceeds to play something with a god awful guitar tone
I didn’t mind the production. Still had fun with it. 3/5
AI just looks like shit, no matter what.

Thank the gods the mix puts Brian' s vocals upfront.

Pfff metalheads bitching about production. It sounds like the 80’s as it should be. Listen to Deathcore if you want clean production.
a black metal guy bitching about production...what's the world coming to?

Bordering on “unlistenable”? Give me a break…maybe the production isn’t the most pristine in the world but it fits the style and the music.
Saw Satan yesterday live. It was a blast. The sound was very good - they can do it. That sound sample was really off though.
Nice Century shirt 🇸🇪
Blayne realy managed to do a Satan review withouth the Gaahl clip, well done! (unlike Satans Producers).

Sarah has to do this, not you men, not your cup of tea..the album is good and the production is ok, not perfect but good
The new Blitzkrieg released the week before this, is quite a lot better. A bit more modern sounding than Satan, but same singer and heritage.
Can someone recomend me speakers for heavy metal, because evreything i tried is just made for jazz classical.... it sucks when my 10 years old phillips 2.1 pc speakers sound better than anything else i tried.

Blayne will dig it. He like the old metal dudes. Not as much as DeKay. But a pretty good deal.
Sounds like they sent in the demo tape. Yikes.
Not really excited for music that sounds exactly like what's been done a thousand times, but worse.
Nope nope noooope
Must have mixed it on headphones after not listening to Glenn Fricker.
