Thanks for watching, everyone! Go support The Black Dahlia Murder and celebrate their triumphant return. Sidenote: Oops, I accidentally combined "Transcosmic Blueprint" and "Utopia Black" into one song that doesn't exist-but would probably rule if it did.
Pulled up to a stop light yesterday after work, blasting the new disc. Car next to me was doing the same. Cool little moment where we fistbumped and showed love to Trevor before the light turned green. Good shit.
Lol right? I wore my servitude shirt out and the dude locked on and was like "nice shirt". The boys that notice are always quiet but they're also always awesome.
I'm not a huge Extreme Metal fan, but I love The Black Dahlia Murder, since I discovered them with Nightbringers. This new album is amazing and honors Trevor's life and legacy.
They have the greatest modern metal guitar duo ever now. Two absolute RINGERS with Brian on top of that with all the gonzo riffs he's created over the years. Terrible circumstances aside (but also these same circumstances creating a perfect storm) the best lineup this band could ever have. Trevor would be proud \m/
This album is above average for Black Dhalia meaning you can listen to the whole album without having to skip a track because it's weaker than the others. However, No super standout songs but overall a great album. However, there are no super standout songs and I do miss having songs like: In hell is where she waits for me, I will Return, MoonLight Equilibrium, What a Horribble Nightbto Have a Curse, and Miasma, Statutory Ape, Death Mask Divine. Replacing Trevor is an impossible task because there never will be anyone like him and he had some of the darkest lyrics ever. But this band deserves to continue his legacy as best as they can and this is a good start. Keeping Knight and Ellis is essential as they bring the high level playing of a band like Arsis, from where they were poached, to Black Dhalia.
I’m going to see them with Dying Fetus literally tomorrow, and I’m super stoked to see how they perform live with this adjusted lineup. We forever miss you Trevor , but we’re also so happy that Black Dhalia is pushing forward despite the tragedy!
I never got into these guys. I have nothing against them, but I've tried a few times, and it just hasn't clicked with me. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of mellow death. I'll definitely listen to this one, though and give it a chance. I like that they kept the same guys together. I've also heard from friends that work at places they've played that they're really nice guys. Thanks for the review/tribute, Bradley. Good to have you back (for now)!
The Black Dahlia Murder hold a special spot in my heart not just because they’ve consistently put out fantastic music for twenty plus years but because they are so upfront about being good, welcoming dudes who just happen to make gnarly music. As Brad talks about here, they’ve never felt the need to be more in line with the tone of the music they make. I’ve always felt like there is this pressure for a listener to embody or live up the the music they listen too. Yet, I’m a hugs softie and a Christian (your average metal fan, right?), and bands like TBDM give me a lot of confidence to be those things and still enjoy their music. Pretty rad, I gotta say.
Brad mi amigo, you are absolutely brilliant at this reviews, I do like the way you take it really serious , it’s very respectable with the musicians. I hope we can see you back soon 🫡
I’m extremely picky with songs and albums. I could love an artist and only like a song or two of a new release. I like a lot of the songs on this new album. R.I.P Trevor & congratulations to The Black Dahlia Murder on this release. I’m sure most people will be pleased
I'll never forget getting to talk to Trevor and the lead singer of Cephalic Carnage after their show probably 15 or however many years ago. I asked Trevor to recommend a band that he thought was a hidden gem. He said Lykathea Aflame for sure. Was a cool moment for me and Elvenefris has been one of my favorite albums ever since.
I was visiting my grandparents in New Mexico when I heard about his death. I rarely cry when I someone famous died. His death made me cry and I ended up hearing their music all day.
It reminds me of the everblack abysmal days, with sprinkles of other parts of their earlier sound. Much different than what they put out with nightbringers and verminous. I love it more than the last two and will definitely be high up on my favorite albums by them list. Brian is holding it down and at times I forgot it was him on the album singing. It's exciting to see the next chapter of the band going forward as much as I'll always miss trevor leading the band and everything he's done for the metal scene but it's good to see the band going forward full steam
I must say, I wasn't a black dahlia murder until Verminous. That was my introduction and It blew me away, then I heard some of the older album and I lost it, it was amazing so many bangers in almost 20 years of careers. This album is amazing. Rip Trevor Strand. Long live the black dahlia murder.
Verminous was such a triumph so this realease had a lot of pressure on it apart from the obvious. It is no mystery who has been backing Trevor's vocals this past 20 years the cadence still lives in the vocals give Brian some time to find his voice. I was puzzled at the mix from Ellis who produced the album but with in ears Brad's comments on the arrangement makes a lot more sense.
The metal blade DVD with funeral thirst 3 inches of blood I remember watching funeral Thursday the music video and I was hooked I used to be more into hip-hop than slowly and more and more. I became more into the melodic, death, metal and death and metal core The Black Dahlia Murder has been one of my favorite all-time bands by the way you were made to review albums, definite subbing
I got the vinyl first which was weird because you don’t get the intricate detail you do on headphones. BUT. I noticed that the rhythm bass drums of this album can be headbanged front to back with groove after groove after blast after chug and back into groove. Then when able to stream on headphones it was like HOLY SHIT there’s so much detail in there!! Alright off to clean some toilets while I chug some Servitude!! RIP T.S.
I definitely remember reading the news like, minutes after it was posted. I was laying in my last apartments livingroom after work just dead tired, and shot up right away. I reread it to my girl for like confirmation and had to walk to the restroom to sit and try to process and just cried my eyes out. That being said, i might be alone on this, but this album is a grower for me. Theyre my favorite metal band, but i was underwhelmed upon first listen. Not because Trevor wasnt there, but to me there were a few things i noticed. The riffs werent as particularly catchy and very memorable, and for as much of a heavy groove is kept by the drums, the blasts i love this band for were almost an afterthought. Which was very weird for me to kind of grasp. Now i am extremely grateful for this album and stoked the men continued on, but like i mentioned i believe this album is a grower. Heard it 4 times now, hoping it comes around more. Loved this vid breakdown dude, subscribed.
great review Brad. I was lucky enough to know Trevor for a time a long time ago back when the band was still pretty young. He asked me to do some work for the band and we would chat a bunch on AIM. really really great guy. loving the new album.
Also, you’re not kidding about a lot of us knowing exactly where we were when we found out. I had to leave work early and hug my kid extra hard. Must have spent a week crying. Still do sometimes. I miss my friend. I know he’s proud as fuck of all of us and double proud of his brothers in TBDM. Thank you for reviewing this one.
They sound better than ever and i was waiting with high expectatiions. I am really excited to ear again and again because there is many layers of METAL to apreciate in this Record. Vitriol, job for a cowboy and now Black dahlia murder. This is my podium for 2024 until this point.
For sure 4 to 4.5 stars They kept that TBDM vibe going 100%. I just feel like somehow there's a little bit of heaviness missing, but that's minimal and just a personal taste thing
I'll admit I've been very critical of Bradley and his vocal reviews in the past. It was always too robotic and condescending I thought. This time I heard none of that. I appreciate the emotion. Well done Brad
Even though it took a millenea to get the point. Clarity for me has been achieved. There was something about this album, when I listened...and had it on in the background. This album is a "best of" album, with new tracks you've never heard before. The immortals have gone above and beyond for their blast fiend minions. Thank you

4 skulls?!?!? C’mon man, this is a 10 out of 5 skulls. This album, the fact that it manifested in the wake of Trevor’s passing and then on top of that, is actually an amazing record from all TBDM members is a miracle. Let’s re-review and give this the rating it deserves here. A perfect 5 skulls
I think 4/5 is fair, Musically the album is excellent and amazing, but the lyrics are a big hindrance, there is some basic grammatical errors that exist in the album that are noticeable, Brains vocals are decent though, I wish he had better microphone technique live, He keeps tilting the microphone and losing 8-12db from not holding the microphone straight to his mouth, Also I'd like to hear him do more deep growls, I think out of the ones I've heard in the album they sounded really good. Other then that I think they definitely have renewed themselves Instrumentally It is excellent definitely unique you can tell the passion is back that felt like it was missing in parts of Verminous, Hoping that the lyrical content improves on the next album, It definitely carries Trevor's Spirit though, so keep on embodying it, I have no doubt the next one after this is going to be sick.
@@andrewjohnson9157 it's all good homie. I remember watching an interview w Brian and Trevor when that album was new and apparently a boatload of ppl thought the same thing.

I liked it but it took awhile for me to get used to the absence of Trevor
Black Dahlia was the band that got me into more extreme metal, truly an amazing band, and a great new album 🤘

How do you know who wrote what song? There aren't specific credits listed in the CD lyric book, it just says all songs written by TBDM.
I got this from the Decibel cover story, although I saw elsewhere that during a livestream Brandon said the split in the comments, too.
Love you Brad.
