I also agree that your voice is nice to listen to and I think it lends itself especially well to these kind of character study / storytelling analysis / theories videos.
+1 to that :)
Thanks for the compliment, Ondrej!
I think he's very funny too. He cracks me up at least once if not 5x per video.
Agreed, my fellow "innies"!!! 2:17
I came for the Severance videos and stayed for the dulcet tones (also the great analysis lol)
I really need to start using the term "dulcet tones" in my intros as a selling point 😂
Agreed
Criminally underrated channel
Thanks, Mertow!
Great channel sir, wish you the best of luck, there is quality here o7
What got me hooked is the Severance content
Thanks, Mushu. I appreciate that!
I did not expect to hear my name in a UA-cam video today 😆 thank YOU for the amazing videos! Love severance so much and this channel is keeping me sane until the next season lol
Hey, Anna! No worries, just my way of saying thanks for having my back.
Just binged your channel - amazing how you're pretty much self taught your stuff is brilliant! Can't wait til I can say 'subscribed before it was cool'. Well done!
This was really interesting! Totally agree your voice is super nice to listen to
You are truly one of the best theory creators out there ❤ I’m so excited to see you blow up on here!!!
Thanks, Taylor! That put a huge smile on my face 😁
Another connection to Nautilus and submarines is diving deep. This is something of a "deep dive" channel. It all makes sense.
I only just now noticed this video 10 days after it came out, and only because I thought to myself "I wonder what Nautilus is up to" and came to visit your channel! Damn algorithm. Thanks for your answer!
No doubt! Thanks for coming through! I hear a lot of complaints about not getting notis. It even happens on my personal account! 😅
It's nice getting to know you! Thank you for this :) Also, I hadn't seen the season two cast - I'm so stoked about Alia Shawkat!!!
Me too! I can't wait to see how they cast her. She just seems like the perfect presence for the show! Dark comedy is a good look on her. Thanks, Riprulez32!
Congrats 🎉 keep up the excellent work!
Thank you, evo! Will do!
I see you fam! Almost 3k thats dope af. Love the energy and the content. I consider myself an 80’s baby and a 90’s kid and definitely watched a lot of those shows growing up. I watched serverance, andor and succession in the past 12 months and it has made me happy to see great writing again. Severance is one of those shows that is so perfect you are scared for a second season because how flawless the first was. Thank you for the content!
Hey, thanks for coming through, bro! It's pretty crazy! I had so many more shows I wanted to add onto that list from Martin all the way back to Different Strokes 😂
Yeah, I am a little worried about season 2 not having that same feel to it, but I think the writers must get why we like the show, and they will try to keep things consistent. The mysteries are what keep the show alive!
it was great to learn more about you! also i really need ms. casey/gemma to be okay
Agree 100%. Thanks for watching!
This is so interesting! It's so fun to hear about your journey and how you got to where you are!
Just found your channel and love your style. Your engagement with the viewers is great too
X-Files, Mad Men, Dark, Atlanta, Brit crime dramas. Hitting all the sweet spots. And Severance of course ❤❤❤❤
Keeping the list short was the hardest part lol
I think it would be cool to see the outies of MDR meeting each other while we follow 1 or 2 more characters in another department. Also I would like to see Mark go through reintegration and the side effect being mark having split personalities.
I have a feeling they might meet up on the outside. Maybe starting with Irving since he probably knows about the others.
Omg I love that you love coffee and books 😍 I came to your channel for the Severance analysis (Severance is my current obsession), I stayed for your fantastic voice and your analysis of Black Mirror also. Thanks for all you do, and keep it up! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for posting! I was very happy to see a new video.
love the vids man the severance vids are the best!
Glad you enjoy it!

I love your channel so much! And your voice is soothing haha!
Thanks Erin!
Nautilus you're the man! You seem like such a likeable dude and love your attention to detail for all the subtle nuances always give your videos a watch. If you're into British Police drama, if you haven't already try Slow Horses a bit more on the MI5/spy thriller side but more gritty and grounded as opposed to the whole 007 vibe, it's a great watch!
Love your analyses, video quality , and narration style. And your channel name! Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to seeing whatever you make next. 🎉
Hey, thanks! 😊
Great channel. Brit here, I recommend The Fall for a truly excellent British crime drama. Gillian Anderson.
Thanks, Richard! I've seen the Fall and I agree with you; very good story telling there.
Yeah man your content is very well done!!
Oh, how happy I am! Feeling discontent and disinterested in my UA-cam feed, and switching between some collaging, reading, and eating pizza (lol) I catch up on some octopus videos and think, “I wonder where my Nautilus Files has been?” And also, “When the heck is Severance season 2 premiering 😅?” And here I see a new video. What a wonderful Saturday evening now, just lovely!
PS UA-cam has once again failed me, as I am subscribed to all updates but did not see this!
❤❤❤
Edit: Files. And…just love knowing more about you, and also seeing all the things we have in common 😎.
PS 90s kids unite ^29 forever but may have been a 1991 baby cough cough%
I was wondering where you were! Yeah, you can't always trust those notifications, but I'm glad you're back and that Saturday turned up roses 😉
😂💀!
Love your videos! You’re so kind. Here’s to a better year!
Thanks so much, Eva! Happy New Year to you too!
you are our new fave 100%, love you, thank yoiu, never stop, xo
Wow, thank you for the compliment! 💙
We have such similar tastes. I'm going to check out some of these shows for sure!
Love this channel!
Thank you!
I just found this video. Late congrats on 1000 subs! Love your taste in television. And I think you’re right about the next season. I think it will be different characters. But time will tell.
Thanks, Irene! No worries!
Hey Nautilus Files great vid and perspective on stories and congrats on the channel growth!
Any stories you've watched in movies/tv where empathizing with the character in that medium changed the way you think or changed a long held belief?
Hi, Kevin! Appreciate the kind words. Yeah, that's probably happened more times than I can think of. One of the more recent examples is the "Kendall Roy" character from Succession. I found myself wanting to hate the entire cast, but because the characters resonate so well through the writing, I couldn't. This is especially true of Kendall, a man with a desperate need to get validation from a god-like father figure with all the baggage that entails. I understood Kendall, and could see his perspective even though I disagreed with his choices. No matter how alien another person appears at a distance, we have much more in common than we like to think. I think, in the general sense, the show made me realize that while rich people do live in a surreal and disconnected world, they are still just as susceptible to many of the same miseries that afflict the rest of us. I found that comforting in a messed-up sort of way lol.
We enjoyed each fact equally.
Looking forward to seeing more from you on Severance of course and also some more Yellowjackets analysis ?!!🙂
Hi, Anne! I definitely have plans for more Yellowjackets! If I'm not mistaken, season 2 drops late March? I'll be working on some character studies and theories for it within the next month.
Holy shit I thought you were at like a million at LEAST! The quality of your videos is literally insane what
Yessss I love seeing a new video pop up!!!! Your voice, your humor is so wonderful.
Thank you, Julia! 💙😊
Awesome content man, keep it up! I would LOVE to hear some of your thoughts on Servant, it's such a special show
Servant is the reason I signed up for Apple TV in the first place! It has some of the best acting/dialogue on TV, right now. Honestly, to do so much with such a small cast and space speaks to the caliber of the actors and the solid writing. I plan to make videos on the 4 main characters at some point in the future!
Glad to find your videos. We have similar taste in shows, including British crime shows. Your voice is soothing. Subscribing is a no brained for me. Cheers.
Thanks, Shannon! I appreciate the kind words. I'm glad the algorithm sent you my way 😊
Hey, I'm glad you also added a lil qna. It's nice to know a few personal things about the people who's videos I watch (not too many tho :D)
Glad you enjoyed it, Carl!
Nice to meet you!
Same here :)
We live in the Platinum Age of TV
🤯🔥🌋💀🌴🌊😂 ALSO!
As a 47yo fella I learned the hard way ❤
That they don’t call it TV anymore
🤜🤯🤛 Kids…😂😂
Sometimes I forget how well spoken and intelligent the most hood people are when they become youtubers.
Can't believe I never could tell you were from the Bronx until you mentioned it, now it feels so obvious.
The way you speak lets people know you've seen some shit without saying anything at all 🤣
Your channel growth is outstanding! Well done and well deserved. As soon as the Season 2 release date (Severance) is announced I'll be starting a rewatch of Season 1.
OG Trish D! Yeah, it's been a crazy ride so far. If I had to guess, S2 will probably drop in Fall of 2023. Fingers crossed.
Multiple millchucks for sure
I really enjoy your content. Thanks.
Glad you enjoy it, WD!
OMG eerie Indiana was my favorite show. Only a little bit because I was living in Indiana. Mostly because it was bizarre and amazing.
I would give anything for a reboot of that show. I'm glad someone else remembers it lol.
Loved this video, it’s nice to get to know more about you! I’m curious to know what some of your favourite movies are
Thanks, Katie. Good to see you again! I'm glad you liked the video. OK, so I used the minute method again here. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The One I Love, Under the Skin, The Lighthouse, Chinatown, Arrival, Parasite, Hereditary, Down by Law, Alien, Blue Velvet, Annihilation, and Children of Men came to mind first. Any recommendations? I'm always looking for something new.
Hey! This was really cool haha
I agree with you on everything pretty much. I wouldn't be a fan of them going down the path of being a resistance group. Gemma is the biggest mystery and I feel like she will be in the center of season 2. Especially because of what is going on on the outside. I'm excited too see what happens, can't wait for season 2!
Have a great week Nautilus :)
Ofc, and thanks for the question. I had fun answering. I hope we get the backstory on Gemma and the how and why she is was chosen for Severance too. The Gemma mystery is one of the biggest questions we need answers for!
@@nautilusfiles Exactly, there is soo much potential in that story. There is a real chance to still keep that feel Season 1 had. Maybe it will be even better!
Thanks for making a video like this, it’s cool to get to know you a bit! I love tv shows and diving into them, but I’m also trying to add more to my reading list- I remember readings dystopias like The Giver when I was younger and really enjoying them. As a big reader do you have any recommendations of dystopias or similar sci-fi? Thanks :)
Hey, Lars! Dystopian settings are often the best setting for a good scifi novel. I can think of a few that I really liked: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Dry by Neal Shusterman, and Sleep Donation by Karen Russell. Hopefully you find something you like in there, but there are many more options.
You’re the best.
Holy fuck Nautilus files lives here on the Island. I wonder if we’ve ever crossed paths as it’s a small world out here lol
Looovve your vids
I would love to hear your thoughts on Better Call Saul
I hope you get many more views on this channel !!
Thank you, Anais! I'll say this much: BCS > Breaking Bad! It has the same style of cinematography, but the writing, dialogue and pacing are even tighter than that of Breaking Bad. I'm a big fan of Cranston and his portrayal of Walter White, but the overall winner is BCS. It's that much more successful at what it intends to achieve. Anyway, I said all that to mention that I will be covering characters from both shows in the future 😅
@@nautilusfiles Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on this (especially about BCS that is so rich in complex characters) ! Agreed, I think BCS is superior in all aspects. Looking back on it now, it's impressive that they managed to make a show so enticing even though we knew how it would end.
Thanks for all!! Can you rank a top 10 series to watch in 2023?
Hi Daniel! Sure thing. Let me think of a list and I'll respond back here again later today 👍
OK, my list of shows to watch in 2023:
White Lotus
Andor
Yellowjackets
Servant
Barry
The Expanse
The X-Files was my first obsession, as well.
I would also recommend Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes if you like British police dramas and the weirder stories out there! You don’t have to have seen Life on Mars to watch Ashes to Ashes (LoM is set in the 70s and A2A is set in the 80s, I’m not a 70s fan so I skipped it) but it helps to kinda know what the concept is. I really think you’d like it, it’s full of mystery but it DID wrap up properly so we do get to have our questions answered. If you can get hold of the shows, I’d be so stoked to find out what you thought!
Sorry, this is first time I'm seeing this comment! I remember watching the pilot for Life on Mars, but it was the US version. While I did like it, I wanted to see the original British series but I never got around to it. This was years ago, but now that you've remind me of it, I've added to my list of shows to watch.
Nautilus: Can you believe it's 2023 already? 2022 went by way too fast!
Me, watching this for the first time in 2024: ... man.
😂😂
X-Files!!!! Yes!!!
FRASIER GANG
FRASIER GANG
FRASIER GANG
I believe true detective season one is the best 1 season show produced. Amazing characters great pacing, story telling and awesome slight foreshadowing what feels rewarding. And woody harrelson And Mathew mcconaughey are the leads check it out 10/10 crime show
Have you watched Raised by Wolves? There was nothing like it out there. So bummed that it got cancelled and no other platform picked it up.
Not yet, but I am curious about it. I didn't know it was cancelled already!
Irving it seems has been reset, he knows he’s been there longer ‘seniority’ yet does not seem to recall previous areas.
So, re: Jemma being alive, remember with the timing of that, they had just found the baby I’m afraid they may play it as “he must have thought the baby was alive” not his wife… and it could get tricky…
Good point. He does say "She's alive", not specifically that Gemma is alive. That might work on everyone else but Devon, because she will probably tell Mark's outtie about his innie getting out and trying to make contact.
:)
😁
U should watch Hannibal it’s pretty great
I've seen it! I did like it but was severely disappointed when they cancelled it. I don't remember the reasoning behind that, but that show had so much potential.
wasn't there a discord fan art thingit you were gonna include? or is that next vid?
I think I know who this is lol. Don't worry I haven't forgotten!
I was hoping it would be nautipodes.
In looking at Ricken’s followers, what do you think about them being reversed- innies, as outies. Their weird motivations, and behavior matches that of innies in the show. Reasons for this could be anything, but Ricken seems to be the other side of the spectrum of Kier. Opposites, but the same. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Hi, John. I definitely think his fans/followers are severed people, although, as you mentioned, the circumstances by which they are out in public is unknowable right now. I forget her name (Rebek?), but one of the women in the group mentioned something about a bird attacking the back of her head which, to me, alludes to her being chipped. I think, for whatever reason, they are not aware they are severed. As for Ricken, I sometimes wonder if his messiah-like persona is intentionally meant to exist in opposition to Lumon in a sort New versus Old Testament relationship.
@@nautilusfiles good point! My greater “out there” theory (based on nothing) is Ricken is a failed attempt at recreating Kier through the data refinement. Cobell’s mocking mention of his 5th book suggests to me that they used to monitor him. Just sounding off, but I really appreciate your insights.
While I have your attention, “work-life balance” as people describe the show seems superficial to its truer meaning of trauma and substance abuse. Marks drinking and decision to sever are all the same. Drugs, perks, faith (as desired by the characters) seem to reflect coping mechanisms, rather than the surface level elevator pitch of, “don’t you just wish you could leave work at work?”
Definitely. Severance casts work as a cult-like religious mind state and how shines a light on how we use technology as an escape from that and other unpleasant realities. There are themes of worker solidarity, class warfare and question about the legitimacy of authority in the workplace and the question as to what "work" should mean. There has been a spate of shows that cover similar topics, but none that handles the nuances of the subject as well. I'm so glad this show got the green light.
Have you seen Life On Mars?
I have! Well, the first season. I was unable to get the 2nd season at the time. One more thing to add to the list...
Regarding British crime dramas, have you seen Broadchurch?
I have and I liked it. I forget what the American version of it was called, but it wasn't as good.
Video starts at 9:47.
Man, I watch all of your Severence videos on UA-cam. I listen in my car. I arrive to work with my damn head spinning about Severence. I don’t know anyone else who watches it. It drives me crazy.
Please think about this:
Helly is brought in the day that Pete ‘quits’. That is too sudden. The replacement, who we find out is a super high profile replacement is going in for her first day of orientation while the MDR crew is still trying to wrap their heads around Pete being gone and Mark getting promoted.
It just seems too sudden.
Yeah, I've wondered about the timing of it all. It makes me wonder if Pete's exit was planned to some degree. This is why I am suspicious that Harmony is either working with the "resistance" or orchestrates more of her own experiments like the ones she does with Mark.
Comments help
They certainly do; especially the ones that come from regular viewers who've been around from the start 😉
