I agree! Perkins once said they constantly spent all the time together during the making of that movie and "there was a synthesis of people there that was very very strong. Much stronger than the movie. I think the movie is a bit of a mess." He might be right with this but it doesn't harm the movie imo. In fact, to me, it makes it even better - you can feel the good mood they had during that movie. It's not only beautifully trippy, claustrophobic and intruiging as Kafka is, it has also humorous fun moments and there's a sense of spontaneity and creativity that you find rarely in a movie. After years of watching movies I prefer that to perfectionism now.
It's funny how i imagined this scene to be much more cramped, claustrophobic even , hostile, dusty. Incredible how people can read the same literature and have entirely different views on its setting
Same especially when it’s described as being in the attic of a tenement. I expected the corridors to have low ceilings, packed together walls, etc. Almost like in something like Alien (1979) or The Shining (1980) where you literally feel trapped in a maze.

It was fun to be part of when one is 13.. then later in life I was able to obtain a copy of the movie.. it was surely a strange plot.. but I will always remember sitting on Orson's lap he said when you ever come to the US look me up... I did try to contact him.. never able
Yes..in those days everyone was truly involved and shared moments. I even sat on Orson Wells lap.. Romy Schneider was the only actor that didn't speak to us (children)
Saw this several years ago in a theater. I was blown away. What a great melding of two creative visionaries. This scene certainly can attest to that.
A very underrated film
Totally agreed, I love this movie!
Though the plot is hard to follow at times, I consider this to be one of Orson's best. What a trippy atmosphere he creates in this one.

I've read the book by Kafka, arguably one of the top ten books ever written. Welle's certainly was confident.
3:38 I love how understated he plays this short moment of nearly breakdown crying but holding it together.
Kafka's story is like a weird dream.
It's more of a weird nightmarish comedy

I was one of the children in the movie. I'm the girl with hump back... running up stairs..so long ago.

How cool was Orson? Would have loved to have met him.
Unbelievable! Where are you from, Christine?
Did you ever get to speak with Anthony Perkins on set ❤

3:30 what does K. say?
Please don’t trouble yourself (I feel okay?)
@Bubbamacomb Thank you, that makes more sense ❤ though, I think at the end he says, 'With my life' instead of 'I feel okay'
@@lilmissrockchick4962 I think it's "Please don't trouble yourself. I..I.. I'll feel fine if I could just get some air."
