I don't have a problem with her appearance, but in the original whenever James and Angela talked they seemed a bit drowsy and absent minded. They were in a daze. I dug that a lot. Here they seem very sober. I hope the game retains the vibe of the original and emotions
As much as I love Guy Cihi I also don’t mind James’ new voice actor, but Angela definitely seems rough. I honestly didn’t expect that kind of line delivery, and let alone her voice sounding that masculine.. I think I can get used to her voice being deeper, but man I think this scene definitely needs some more work.
The voice work is bothering me the most. She should sound more scared rather than confused. Especially when talking about silent hill. I can understand making angela less physically appealing because of her traumatizing past. As in make her hair more uneven or messy, or show that she never put make up or groomed her eyebrows/lashes. But why make her face so pudgy like she been eating with Eddie.
There's a theory that some women who went through SA as children eat themselves into obesity as a way to evade the risk of any sexual attention being forced onto them ever again... but I doubt the thought went as far as this.
You're right. I don't care about the design, it's ok. But voices a straight awful. The original Angela sounds scared, insecure. She even retains some kind of childish way of talk, like when she says she's not lying. The remake sounds rather annoyed
heh she does look like she's been binge- eating with eddie, good theory there. maybe made some mukbang videos, too... ( there has to be something wrong with people who make mukbang, let's be honest ) but yeah, circles under the eyes from bad sleep, bad fingernails, theres many small details that could have been used...

Yay....Konami needs to get their stuff together for the sake of this game and their fanbase.
Seems like they did a poor job with the rigging or shape keys then. I don't think better facial animation would have helped though, her new model is inherently uncanny. They shoved a chubby face and fat neck onto a model with a skinny person's arms and it looks... odd at best. She's very disconnected as if her head was sewn onto a much fitter person's body, Dio Brando style.
"Modern Audiences" Must not upset the LGTBQ crowd with traditional female attractiveness! All women must be androgynous, and blob-like!! Disrupt the "male gaze" etc. etc..!!!
While Angela not being "sexualized" was already baked into her character from the beginning (and for a _very_ good reason), I just think it's weird that to modern developers, "reducing attractiveness" on female characters always means giving them a jawline like Robert Z'Dar.
@umstrife5654so real life people who look like the remake angela is trolls and swamp monsters now? the beauty standards implemented in people's brain lol.i agree that the remake looks bad,not because of "western devs" but it just looks like they dont make an effort to make her look the same as the og
Right? The CG scenes in the original resembles Sandra Bullock. She's beautful but unsure of herself, as if she's unconsciously attempting to hide her beauty because of what happened to her and doesn't want to draw attention. Some victims of abuse do this because they were made to feel like they were to blame for how they look and for how the abuser reacted and that they should not have tempted them. It's messed up. 😢
Original: Angela kills her entire family due to abuse Remake: Angela ate her entire family Edit: Lmao the remake defenders in the replies over a dumb joke XD
@@Khann_2102 let me dumb it down for you two. Realistically, Konami wants to show in this remake that the characters are traumatized, James is older and she has this. PEOPLE actually do have this happen where their body goes faster than age. So if you stop demanding a fictional character in a horror game has to be your ideals of attractive even though that's not a goal you can see why they did this
There's some particular sound effect that makes the scene feel like some dream, or maybe the ambiance, even the girl, something feels wrong about her in the first game. The voice acting in the original is strong, remember "I'm not your Mary", the original one compared to the hd remaster, day and night difference, I hope this will be at least better than that remaster
They definitely missed the point of the original Angela. She sounds and acts the way she does in the original because her mental growth was stunted by all the abuse she experienced. Honestly this is the only thing I've seen that is bothering me so far.
If there's no "original voice acting" setting I won't buy. I'm that stubborn yes. The actress for Mary broke down in real tears when reading the extended letter. That take was so raw they had to keep it even after numerous re-recordings. Guy Cihi fully encapsulates James's character in his performance and if you see his personal content on UA-cam you'd see he's a die hard fan of the game as well. Some voice actors fill a role and move on, some love their roles. Guy's face was used for James, and his tone was perfect. This remake is soleless. I wish you all would quit crying about Angela's double chin, go outside, look at some real women, and read some fucking books so you can see what's truly deeply wrong with this remake.
@@ymck7246 well at least for the conversation- she's not at all timid or struggling with the conversation and doesn't sound frantic when she says "i'm not lying". Instead she acts like she's facing off against james. But weak or unempowered women are considered taboo nowadays so we get another generic even though it made sense and was more interesting for Angela to be beaten down and weak
Totally agree. Tbh I didn’t really mind her appearance that much, but I wasn’t expecting her voice to sound that masculine. The tone of Angela’s lines also sounds too different in comparison to the original, and sounds too much like she’s reading a script imo. I’m okay with the rest of the actors but definitely Angela is what I’m worried about tbh. It was actually kind of jarring to watch and listen to for the first time ngl.
Yes. The new actor is shit and soulless. The intonation is confident, not begging, there is not stuttering, stumbling or second guessing. Sounds like a tik-tok cosplayer pretending to be timid, not an actual lost and confused woman. fucking disgusting trash fuck this game
Slight spoiler comment but When James says “I don’t really care if it’s dangerous or not” in the original I believe that. I believe that he doesn’t care if it’s in dangerous for reasons that will unfold. In the remake when he says it he sounds like a typical video game hero. And spoiler folks, but James isn’t a hero.
I think the design is fine tbh. It's the line delivery that I think doesn't work. There is something clearly wrong when initially interacting with angela in the original, and it's deeply unsettling. The new Angela just seems like a regular person who is mildly offput by the area. They don't feel like the same person.
Y'know what? people will complain on anything they can, like you'd create one of the best sequals ever on planet but there will be some people who'd just hate for literally a pin point, such people are good to be ignored. Remake is great, sound design was awesome and voice actors also did great on their roles.
in silent Hill the characters sound like they talk past each other, like they're talking to someone in their own head. thats what's missing from this remake. they took the foggy, dream like aspect out of it, and it's gonna suffer because of it.
Lol, the amount of hate the remake gets is ridiculous. Trashing the VA for her lines and tone when, in reality, the OG VA sounds more horrible. Typical "OG is the best; we are blind to see how horrendous the voice acting was along with the shitty combat. I decided to hate it because a lot of people do and I wanna feel like I belong." Ahh, people. I love the original; nothing can replace it. But god, I'm not that blind to see how the game is much better now. (Except for the part that Angela's face is a bit off in this, but it's fixed now.)
@@Indigo_1001I think it’s because the old model looks much older and more stressed, the new face model lacks details, lighting and shadows which makes her face look a bit puffy and porcelain-like , her character overall looks fine ,it’s just the close-up of her face looks kinda goofy.
@@adams3560 I've run though both Horizon games. And they did give Aloy more "pudgy" features for the second game, which absolutely do not fit the athleticism of the character. This character looks like she's suffering from the 'Moon Face' medical condition.
There’s just something about the old one… idk if it’s the voices that may sound a little ‘robotic’ but they are way envolving… i guess it’s just kinda hard to explain
That's literally not it. OG Angela sounds like scared child, kind of absent minded and melancholy like due to trauma response and dissociation. If you call that femine then I have some news for you.
The original had terrible, anime-tier voice acting that made me cringe even as a kid playing it. The remake's delivery and flow is much more natural and believable. Anyone who regularly has in-person social interactions would agree

If you had ever played this game at any point in your life you would understand why she sounds unsure. Clearly you haven't.
@@5.99USDBut in the original, she doesn't sound unsure?
The dude that modelled the faces in original SH2 made it from scratch with no real references or capture yet the result was exquisite. 20 years later with all technology around and we got this, all poker faces with no expression whatsoever. No hopes for this game tbh
That man's name is takayoshi sato, he also single handedly modeled and animated all of silent hill 1's cutscenes all by himself. Sh1's FMVs are some of the best fmvs available on the play station 1. sato said that he barely slept or saw his family while working on the game, Hell he finished the whole thing in 8 months. That's incredible!
Very true.

i miss times when games had soul
Angela's VA in the original nailed the part "this, uh... this town... there's something "wrong" with it", while in the remake it just feels rushed and with no emotion

I wonder if amongst the fog and darkness we'll come across a manifestation of the frying pan that hit new Angela and gave her that face

Her face lacks details ,lightings and shaders which makes her look a bit wacky and porcelain -like.
Seems like they did a poor job with the rigging or shape keys then. I don't think better facial animation would have helped though, her new model is inherently uncanny. Do not blame the engine when the devs are awful
While Angela not being "sexualized" was already baked into her character from the beginning (and for a _very_ good reason), I just think it's weird that to modern developers, "reducing attractiveness" on female characters always means giving them a jawline like Robert Z'Dar.
especially on a character who's been violated and abused by her father and she resorted to murdering him to stop it all
@umstrife5654so real life people who look like the remake angela is trolls and swamp monsters now? the beauty standards implemented in people's brain lol.i agree that the remake looks bad,not because of "western devs" but it just looks like they dont make an effort to make her look the same as the og
I think the original voice actress had a manic tone, you could hear the terror in her voice, yet her cold expressionless face made it eerie

One of the most ridiculous controversies on the internet this year.
