Fuji is my favourite character in the show. I feel so sorry for her because of everything she's been through. Maybe also because the actress is so kawaii.
She definitely has such fierceness in her innocent beauty! I love her character and I hope nothing happens to her throughout the whole season!

I really like how a lot of the Japanese actors keep a low profile for their personal lives. I feel like American celebrities put wayyyyy too much of themselves out there.

If you like this serie and the environments, clothes etc, I would highly recommend you to see "Memoirs of a Geisha"
As a Japanese, i find that film offensive. "Memoirs of a Geisha" is an insult to Japanese people and their culture. The leading actresses are all Chinese & the clothing etc are inaccurate. Prime example of Hollywood cultural appropriation. There's a good reason why it only has 36% rating on Rotten Tomato lol.

I read the book decades ago. When the series came on t.v., I was sooooo disappointed in how much had to be left out. For example, neither series really gives you an accurate description of how hugely perverted & sick minded Yabu was....the book is quite shocking to read about it in such detail...too perverted for the big screen I would think.
It's a HUGE story, I still loved the series anyway back then.
The book was fantastic, but I think this new series more captures the essence of the book, than the 1980's version.
The book gives great detail into how each culture viewed the other, & from their point of view, rather just a third party observant, However.....neither series quite gives you an accurate sense of that the way the book does.
You got both perspectives, which was fascinating for me then, being a Western Christian Fundamentalist at that time in life.
Both were barbaric by today's standard, but the West like to fancy itself as having brought modern civilization to the entire world, yet, you're left wondering who actually was the more civilized and kind hearted people.
The filth of the Europeans vs. the explicit cleanliness of the Japanese.
I HIGHLY recommend reading the book.....it's fascinating fictional history that really brings that exciting time period to life.
I love this new updated series... much better than the old one in many ways.
There will only be one season.. that has also been officially confirmed, the book template is no longer available. Otherwise insanely new edition of the series❤😍👌🏻

To me as an old Japanese man, Anna Sawai is the least Japanese looking Asian lady despite of her Japanese family name. I think that she was casted because of her English fluency.
That gave me some thoughts. Proficient in English is necessary in the role without a slang.

Anna Sawai is a good actress but she's not as good as Yoko Shimada was in the 1980 Shogun.

The 1980s shogun is FAR FAR superior to the new remake of Shogun.. They pushed Blackthorne to the side, to showcase the Japanese characters. (which is fine, but dont nerf John Blackthrone into a some simp looser) IN THE BOOK, and the 1980s show, AND history, Blackthorne is dangerous, smart, cunning, intelligent, a Shipwright, a Pilot and the BEST of 16 century england. F U guys making him a beta side character. Mariko was petite frail traditional Japanese woman, the interprition compared to the book and the 1980s, she is less so. The actress casting was poor, Blackthorne was poorly cast, and the spot light was shone on Japanese characters. (Now this is great it was well done) BUT. everyones praising the scenary. YET alot of the shots were REUSED, the CGI was recycled in many scenes, how many scenes did we need of Toronaga on a platform outside in the foggy wet rain?!?!?
