This is my first time seeing a high-score run like this. This was insane! The way the charged shots were spaced out, the precision in flying, it was out of this world!
Congratulations, amazing job! It’s crazy that 3,100+ is absolutely obtainable. I never thought in 20+ years of playing this game that 3000 hits would be getting broken on video fairly often, let alone close to 3100...lol
I'm in such an joyous mood because of you. My personal record was 2463(to be fair I would probably be in the 2500 range, because I only had the pal version at my disposal). But seeing an active community and major improvements is just mindboggling for me. Keep up the good work and continue on with terrific pbs👍

Totally nuts and awesome. I was playing the game like crazy on the normal difficulty when I was younger because I never knew you have to get all medals to unlock hard mode. I did that like 2 years ago, the only medal missing was Titania, it was one I would have never gotten, since I hated that planet and playing it automatically brought you to the "incomplete" or "bad" ending so I always avoided it after figuring out how to avoid Slippy getting slapped in Sector X by the boss. I did not grow to like hard mode since you loose your wings too easy by a stupid maneuver and since that also resets your lasers, thats really stupid :( I had like 2100 kills on normal (going through all areas which rack up the highest amount of score, I believe it was Corneria Hard Route > Meteo > Katina > Sector X > Macbeth > Area 6 > Venom II) and still think that this is quite an accomplishment. If I play it today, its not even possible for me to hit the 2000 mark. Guess my fingers were more nimble back then.
Is it possible to take a different path for a higher score? I know the meteor field secret portal was a big honey hole. (Was the first level I medaled on) When I was a kid I didn't understand the charge shot gave bonus so a manual fired most of nearly everything. My best score taking them 1 by 1 was 1060 my right thumb maintains it's speed and stamina to this day though 🤣
This route is the newest route for high score. The route used to go through Area 6 and Venom 2, but now that the Bolse strat has been discovered, this route is now considered the WR route.
Hi, I'm new to speedruns/WRs for SF64. Can somebody explain a couple things? 1. At certain points like 7:34 it seems like the game is reset? Is that just him killing himself and splicing the video? 2. At some places, but especially Aquas, he is spamming missiles at the ground and getting multiple hits. Is that some sort of glitch or is something happening there?
I remember seeing a video like this 10+ years ago when I was a kid, just sitting there looking at those numbers rise like nothing. This video here is EXACTLY how it went. I did not know that infinite torpedo's was a thing in Aquas, my dumbass just shot lasers throughout the whole planet

Curious, does Pepper say anything special when you give him the bill at the end of the credits? I only know "this is one steep bill, but it's worth it" if you get over 800 or so and a "wha--??" if you get over a thousand.
Me at the end of Macbeth: "Why would he go to Bolse? Area 6 would net him _way_ more points!" Me at the end of Bolse, having seen that bomb exploit net him 651 pts: "Why do I always go to Area 6?"
Can anyone tell me how the glitch works at 49:40? Not sure if it's a glitch but I've never seen that sort of bomb hit point score strat. Loved the run!
Hey I’m really interested in running this game, what’s a good forum for reading up on level tricks? I noticed you do a fast reset after the checkpoint in Corneria to get some extra hits from the enemies that respawn, how do you skip the death sequence/animation??
Serious question: how can I load up the blaster this fast? In my game u have to wait a few sec every time and u have to shoot a few single blaster bevor loading. But here it's like it's immediately prepared
I think there's a timing component to it. Muscle memory over time likely makes it seem like I'm loading it faster. I also don't let go of the A button through a good chunk of the run.
I never imagined movement like this was even possible on such a seemingly simple game, and purposefully losing lives to return to a checkpoint and get more hits is genius. 10 year old me would be losing his mind at this, and I still kinda am 😂
On Zoness, why do you intentionally miss the last searchlights to get to Macbeth? I haven't played the game in probably 20 years but I remember being able to change course rather than missing out on those last bonus points
So if you get caught by the search lights, more enemies will spawn. But once you miss one, the value of the searchlights goes down from 4 to 1. So that one specifically that I miss is optimal to miss to spawn in the most enemies, while also minimizing the amount of points lost by the remaining search lights.
@@adamX0315 Speaking of specific routing, is there a particular reason you go to Bolse (and therefore Venom 1) rather than Area 6 (and Venom 2)? I know you get more points from fighting the boss on Macbeth rather than getting all the switches, but how are the points in Bolse and Venom 1, compared to Area 6 and Venom 2?
@@agirlinsearchof9057 So Bolse, if done correctly, can get roughly the same amount of points as Area 6 (my best for Bolse is actually higher than my best for Area 6). Venom 1 can get well over 100 points compared to what you can get on Venom 2. Combined with doing the full fight of Macbeth can get over more points than what you can get compared to Area 6 and Venom 2. So basically, MA (short) - A6 - V2 = 280 + 650 + 240 MA (full) - BO - V1 = 360 + 650 + 360
@@adamX0315 Actually on V2 you can get as high as you want by Charge shotting the ground with Wolf tailing you. I dunno if its possible to make a strat where you can get 999
Wow. Yeah, that was good run. My highest score for this lvl was little over 260... I like the tactic with the plasma charge, I never used it in that way..
Where'd the double blaster go? Why is it just the pea shooter at the start of the second level after having the double blasters at the end of the first?

How new are some of these strategies? I remember looking at high scores like 10+ years ago and people were going Corneria - Asteroid - Katina - Sector X - Macbeth - Area 6 - Venom 2. I didn't realize Aquas and Bolse could give so many points, although it makes sense now that I've seen it. Honestly, really well played. Your precision is no joke. I was really impressed watching Sector Y especially. Those shots are tough to make IMO.
Aquas and Zoness have been around for a good 10 years or so, ever since 3000 was broken initially. Bolse was only recently viable within the past few years and has allowed the highest possible score to increase by quite a bit (over 100 points or so)!

Hey, what was that in Bolse? You pointed upward, launched a bomb, and bam, the hit counter skyrocketed as many enemies were destroyed. What's the trick there?
So launching a bomb at the spawn point at the time the enemies spawn in causes a chain reaction to happen. Launching additional bombs will allow the chain to keep going. Good bomb is about 35-40 points per bomb.
Glad to see the requirements in the 3DS version's Score Attack mode are not only possible, but some can be cleared twice, or even thrice over in Bolse's case... Not that I'll ever achieve that, especially since the Score Attack mode has separate medals for all three difficulties, and you don't even get anything for getting all gold medals anyway.
You get a bonus point for each enemy hit by the blast radius of a charged shot, even if the shot does not directly hit anything, and sometimes even if the indirect shot doesn't kill the enemy, which means you can rack up the points from indirect hits until the enemy actually is killed; I believe this particularly happens with the clams, which cannot be killed until they open but can still take indirect hits.
That used to be the WR route, actually. Turns out that after some investigating by the former WR holder, this route actually has the potential for more points!
In some levels, taking a death after a checkpoint respawns enemies previously killed before collecting the checkpoint. So in the case of Corneria, those 3 enemies on the left that are bombed come back if you die after the checkpoint. Essentially, it's a way to get more points.
I For a few seconds I was confused and thought this video was paused, and tha the e music wa sg coming form a different window I couldn't find. I did'nt realize he jsut wasn't there and the dog was.
Not necessarily faster. Speed isn't the goal here. Not locking on to enemies allows for greater Hit +'s and thus more points. Take the opening in Corneria, for example. If you lock on to one of the enemies in the group of 5 that give you the laser upgrade, you would get a HIT +4. If you don't lock on, and let the splash damage of the charge shot take out the enemies, then that's how you can get a HIT +5.
Ok so I can now play this on my Nintendo switch but I noticed an issue im not able to use charged unlocked shots I guess you can't on the switch I did it on the N64 when I had one and got well over 2000 total hits Every time over 250 at Coneria almost everytime but on the switch guess it can't be done.
@@joshuahouse5084, sorry, I misread the notes on the recent tool-assisted score attack: You need to hold both Z and R, and this means you can't fire unlocked charge shots from the Landmaster.
So first there was the 3 that come from behind the building after going through that narrow arch/hole (whatever you want to call it). The hit+5 is from that mech that you see pushing down the tower.
Correct, it was only recently discovered that this route (the one in the video) has the potential for greater points total compared to the previous WR route. The former WR holder actually improved his record from 3019 to 3077 by doing this route, before this run of course.

You'll have to play on the Japanese version of the game because the English version runs on 1.1, so the score cap is there. The Japanese version does not have the score cap on it!
adam , trevor i got today my hdmi adapter and i have some bad news :( first of all my tv make problem with this, each 5-15 min it breaks up and i must start game from beginning. i try to fix it but nothing work so for rekords it would be impossible to play. second problem grafik look realy bad on my big smart tv and my first try after so much years on corneria was 185 hits, this is very awfull. i try now 5 time in row normal, have best corneria today 265 on normal get, but still same problem it stars always new. i come to aquas then start game again new. i dont now why. maybe wrong output.
@@voltro hello Dimitrij! Good to see you again! I'm not certain about the problem you're having, but I suspect that, because the n64 videogame or even the Star Fox 64 cartridge you have is too old, they might be DIRTY inside! I suggest you FIRST clean the cartridge contacts with alcohol, with the use of cotton swabs, and, if you can see dirt on the cotton swab, that pretty much indicates that the game freezes because of that! If the cartridge doesn't have any dirt anymore and the game still freezes, than the problem should be with the n64. You should do the same cleaning I told you about the cartridge, and clean the n64 slot with alcohol and cotton swab. Be aware that you should use very LITTLE alcohol, just for removing the dirt! Search youtube and you'll see sites explaining that (I used the keywords "n64 cleaning"). However, it's more difficult to clean the n64 than the cartridge, and, if there is the necessity of opening the videogame to clean it, then there is the need to use some very specific screwdrivers, so in this case you should consider whether or not it's more worth buying another console (only the console). I had problems like that and, after doing what I told you, both my cartridge and gameshark stopped freezing! However I have an old videogame that is freezing the game a lot, so I'm considering opening it and cleaning inside (on youtube they teach how to do that)!
So while you can say Bolse is infinite enemy spawns, 999 is not (not proven yet) possible. During the cycles, enemies will only respawn when one is shot down. These cycles last for roughly 90 seconds, and they only happen roughly 5 or 6 times during the second phase of the level. So while you could argue it's infinite enemy spawns, these cycles do not last for the entire period of the level, otherwise yes, we would restrict Bolse from being used had the level infinitely spawned enemies (like how you can farm points in Solar).
In some levels, there are ways to earn more points by killing enemies before going through the checkpoint and then taking a death to respawn those enemies. Corneria and Aquas are both examples of this trick.

Yep, one bomb to start the reaction. Then bomb the spawn point to continue it. A good bomb earns about 40 points per bomb.

Glad to see the requirements in the 3DS version's Score Attack mode are not only possible, but some can be cleared twice, or even thrice over in Bolse's case... Not that I'll ever achieve that, especially since the Score Attack mode has separate medals for all three difficulties, and you don't even get anything for getting all gold medals anyway.

When you're just shooting the floor in Aquas and racking up hits, is that like a glitch or a bug? Thats some wild shit,.
You get a bonus point for each enemy hit by the blast radius of a charged shot, even if the shot does not directly hit anything, and sometimes even if the indirect shot doesn't kill the enemy, which means you can rack up the points from indirect hits until the enemy actually is killed; I believe this particularly happens with the clams, which cannot be killed until they open but can still take indirect hits.

That used to be the WR route, actually. Turns out that after some investigating by the former WR holder, this route actually has the potential for more points!

Why do you reset after each checkpoint just curious
In some levels, taking a death after a checkpoint respawns enemies previously killed before collecting the checkpoint. So in the case of Corneria, those 3 enemies on the left that are bombed come back if you die after the checkpoint. Essentially, it's a way to get more points.

how come you don't actually lock on to enemies? is it faster?
Not necessarily faster. Speed isn't the goal here. Not locking on to enemies allows for greater Hit +'s and thus more points. Take the opening in Corneria, for example. If you lock on to one of the enemies in the group of 5 that give you the laser upgrade, you would get a HIT +4. If you don't lock on, and let the splash damage of the charge shot take out the enemies, then that's how you can get a HIT +5.

Ok so I can now play this on my Nintendo switch but I noticed an issue im not able to use charged unlocked shots I guess you can't on the switch I did it on the N64 when I had one and got well over 2000 total hits Every time over 250 at Coneria almost everytime but on the switch guess it can't be done.
Hold Z and R while charging up, to cancel the lock-on.

@@joshuahouse5084, sorry, I misread the notes on the recent tool-assisted score attack: You need to hold both Z and R, and this means you can't fire unlocked charge shots from the Landmaster.

So first there was the 3 that come from behind the building after going through that narrow arch/hole (whatever you want to call it). The hit+5 is from that mech that you see pushing down the tower.

Correct, it was only recently discovered that this route (the one in the video) has the potential for greater points total compared to the previous WR route. The former WR holder actually improved his record from 3019 to 3077 by doing this route, before this run of course.

thx Trevor. I donkt think i would make big comeback. for this i havent not more the time. Let see i think i will try next year, but must buy first adapter for playing on new TV my old N64. Hopefely to play new Starfox for the Switch , but this is wishful thinking.
You'll have to play on the Japanese version of the game because the English version runs on 1.1, so the score cap is there. The Japanese version does not have the score cap on it!
adam , trevor i got today my hdmi adapter and i have some bad news :( first of all my tv make problem with this, each 5-15 min it breaks up and i must start game from beginning. i try to fix it but nothing work so for rekords it would be impossible to play. second problem grafik look realy bad on my big smart tv and my first try after so much years on corneria was 185 hits, this is very awfull. i try now 5 time in row normal, have best corneria today 265 on normal get, but still same problem it stars always new. i come to aquas then start game again new. i dont now why. maybe wrong output.

I'm not certain about the problem you're having, but I suspect that, because the n64 videogame or even the Star Fox 64 cartridge you have is too old, they might be DIRTY inside! I suggest you FIRST clean the cartridge contacts with alcohol, with the use of cotton swabs, and, if you can see dirt on the cotton swab, that pretty much indicates that the game freezes because of that! If the cartridge doesn't have any dirt anymore and the game still freezes, than the problem should be with the n64. You should do the same cleaning I told you about the cartridge, and clean the n64 slot with alcohol and cotton swab. Be aware that you should use very LITTLE alcohol, just for removing the dirt! Search youtube and you'll see sites explaining that (I used the keywords "n64 cleaning"). However, it's more difficult to clean the n64 than the cartridge, and, if there is the necessity of opening the videogame to clean it, then there is the need to use some very specific screwdrivers, so in this case you should consider whether or not it's more worth buying another console (only the console). I had problems like that and, after doing what I told you, both my cartridge and gameshark stopped freezing! However I have an old videogame that is freezing the game a lot, so I'm considering opening it and cleaning inside (on youtube they teach how to do that)!

So while you can say Bolse is infinite enemy spawns, 999 is not (not proven yet) possible. During the cycles, enemies will only respawn when one is shot down. These cycles last for roughly 90 seconds, and they only happen roughly 5 or 6 times during the second phase of the level. So while you could argue it's infinite enemy spawns, these cycles do not last for the entire period of the level, otherwise yes, we would restrict Bolse from being used had the level infinitely spawned enemies (like how you can farm points in Solar).

In some levels, there are ways to earn more points by killing enemies before going through the checkpoint and then taking a death to respawn those enemies. Corneria and Aquas are both examples of this trick.
