Good job guys, Enjoying these videos.. I believe you have invested in a new camera, Qualitys looking sharper.. 👍📸 What unit is O. J using to scan the car?! Thanks, Sending love from the UK 🇬🇧
I send you BMW-gurus a question from the lower range of e65; the 730d ‘06 model. As I bought this in 2018, all I found of warnings was expensive modules, flush the gearbox and normal maintenance and with good engine oil never changed later than 10.000 km. Now I see several warnings of sudden timing chains failure. To change this kit preventetively would just cost me 4.000$+ at a shop... My car has 170.000 km on the meter and has been driven on Castrol Edge Titanium changed before 10k km it’s entire life. Should I worry about the timing chain? Love your videos! Tore, Norway.
The N73 is super reliable and has a lot of low end power :) do your oil changes regularly. Also I recommend to get a Softwareupdate for all modules. This costs around 120€/$ at the dealer
They do have decent power, and smooth delivery. HPFP, alternator bracket leaking, and lower coolant pipe are all common issues with these and are not caused by neglect, they're just bad. But yes just as any vehicle it needs maintenance done regularly if you want it to have any kind of longevity.
I would caution against a software upgrade. Unless you have owned from new and know every module that has been replaced. A common issue is for door modules to fail leaving your window up (up usually because they are so rarely down). So the module is replaced and programmed at great expense. Then you have the idea to upgrade firmware. And if you are unlucky no widows work. If you are lucky windows work but drivers switch left moves right windows etc and the only way BMW fix this is by replacing every window module and switch so they all come from the same factory and year of manufacture.
@@robi4387 i dont know if you got ripped of from a BMW Dealer? BMW themselves have no idea of coding the E65 in Germany... Of course they want to swap out the whole unit for a premium price but often it can be unlocked (if in an locked mode), recoded or repaired for a fraction of the BMW Price. When you Drive XHP or Alpina Gear Flash these could be overritten at a Full Update Procedure. All other coded setting are like before. If the a new Module is installed coded correctly there is no problem, otherwise the Problem was there all the time (Not correctly coded). When this was a prefacelift from 2001-2003, it Can be possible that BMW doesnt offer a software Update for this „First gen“ Module. Then this needs a custom update or newer modules not changed by a BMW Dealer for +400% If you face this Problem with old modules, better try to repair the old one. This is very often possible by professionals. The IVM Module at Gasoline Models often fails (Engine Start not or only intermittened possible) and the fix is to just resolder two relais points. That would cost alot at the dealer because they just change the whole Unit + Programming on Top 🥲
Does this cars engine (the N73) have throttle bodies like normal? I have heard that bmw's valvetronic is the one controlling intake amount instead of the normal way? Is this true? No throttle bodies?
After viewing this video, I was looking for the 3rd and subsequent installments. Can I assume that you bailed on the rebuild after estimating the cost?
We actually did complete the rebuild successfully. Our media manager had just moved on to a different place of work so nobody documented it. We are currently working on a part 3 episode that will wrap everything up!
@Jaguar Cobra If you haven't made the leap just yet.... V12 if you want to tick the box and have another car to use while it is in the shop. V8 if you want to work on it yourself as the engine is a bit more DIY friendly. Stay away from comfort access and check every single thing before you buy. Preferably with a PPI by a garage familiar with the model.
Call scrappy or offer it to one of those Estonian breakers yards, OR fix it. My wife puts up with dirt under my nails and my empty wallet because she has the joint account. Mine wakes every now and then. Munich Legends found a dodgy tracker, pronounced it fixed, but it wasn't! I've been living with the drain (battery drain for over two years). I bought a battery and yes it starts better with 950cca but still needs CTEK charger supplying 13.2v and 3.8 amps or it'll be flat in two weeks or two days, it's random. It was on the drive and one day the SRS malfunction light came on. I borrowed a laptop with INPA and that said SAT B-pillar module. £29.99 on eBay but needed a freelance master tech with AuroHex II to 'virginize' it and write my VIN to it. Sadly fixing one problem he created another. So with the battery drain getting on my tits, I bought an Autophix for £79.99 on eBay that listed quite a few codes; however, M-ASK not allowing MOST to hibernate caught my eye. M-ASK units are not cheap, and I'll have to wait as it is coming from the US. Fingers crossed.

@@FluidMotorUnion I've heard those engines dont have valvetronic because of twin turbos. So, I thought maybe they are mechanically a little bit more reliable compared to these.
A V12 when new use 0W30 & 5W30...and change it at 12-15.000km....after 200.000 km you must use 5W40 or 10W40.....and will be no leaks....but you must change this tipe of oil at max. 8000 km .....nothing special ......
@@jibrahil7532 Hence I suppose SP suggesting 8,000 but Castrol Magnatec isn't bad stuff. An alternative would be to use Liqui Moly or Lucas Leak Stop. But over 200,000 miles and the valve seals probably need changing and basically an engine rebuild replacing, seals and the vanos. And while in there spark plugs, coils, injectors and PCV and basically everything. Too big a job for my taste, but my engine is misfiring and if the manifold has to come off, I do it or call Estonia.
We are working on a part 3 video currently. Our previous media manager left the company in the middle of the 760i rebuild series so it never got a final resolution video. We will put it out soon though so stay posted.

The videos are getting better and better! Thanks for the content OJ
Glad to hear it Nick! Thanks for watching!!
WoW, TOP information. I have a 760 Li 2005 restyling and I did not know all these technical specifications. 😎💪
@ Fluid MotorUnion So, er, it would be good to see the end of part 2 and part 3
the music in the transitions is cool.
We need a follow up video! Also a former BMW tech and got myself another beautiful mess🤣 ‘06 E66 N73👍
Why do people never change the fuel filters on these?
Good to see you here, sir!
just stumbled upon this part 2. I love the process. Looking for part 3.

Throttle body is there still but mostly acts as a torque limiting method for traction control and limp mode operation.

V12 6l twin turbo... I bet it guzzles gas like crazy
no turbos for N73

Over or under 10g to fix a car worth 13g? Everything is HUGELY expensive lol
