- I take you all on a POV-spirited mountain drive in a Honda Civic Type R (FN2) I try and find all the strong and not-so-strong points of the car to give you all an informed opinion on the most hated Type R
It's not so bad after all.

This car doesn't deserve so much hate... I got mine since a few years ( it's a 2008 ) , i use it as daily , i improved it with some good parts, and i just love it . People just talk without even driving it once ... And it already goes up in value , i bought mine 11k euros , now the same one with the same km is almost 15k here in France.
How are you finding reliability , maintenance, general cost and fuel consumption
15k Euro???? Here in England you are looking ~4k GBP.
Same here, bought mine 2 years ago for smth like 12k, it's a 2007 one
Still completely stock but each time I'm driving it I'm having fun and it's all that matters to me
Yeah it might not be that fast but the feeling of the car is more important to me anyway
But eh, it seems people really likes to hate on civics and especially on the FN2 but whatever
I love my fn2, it puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it. That k20 engine is literally bullet proof and revs like a motorbike, the steering is on point even without the rear double wishbone and it sticks to the road like glue, plus they're fairly cheap.
100% agree, people hate on these things too much but most have never driven one
Liked and subscribed bro, good to see some touge action. You seem like a relaxed guy to be around, looking forward to future vids.
great video sedan man 😃👍❤️ 11:42
Thanks for the very informative video XD
My FN2 came with a LSD (all models built after 04/2010, and the championship white one from 2008 I think). I won't give her away freely, love it :)
I saw this one for sale not long ago. great pickup!. The fn2 was made to be more daily driveable than the ep3. The cabin is a nicer place to be with more goodies aswell as it being a lot more practical.
Well this is a hot hatchback, not a pickup.
@@andyvaan-ju3nk haha you must be from america. When i said great pick up, i meant it as in good purchase. Australian slang i guess
I daily my fn2, i couldn’t ever get in a ep3 again, ive added rear anti roll bar, michelin ps5 tyres and jt handles unreal
I bet it’s great man, I was impressed with how this car handled even on economy tyres and worn out suspension, I bet a rear anti roll bar and good tyres would be night and day difference
@@DrivenDynamicAutomotive i didnt think the car drove great when I first got it, had budget tyres all around and it couldn’t put the power down, but now its night and day difference
@@jav641 been stripped back, primerd and under sealed 👌
Great video, for a look and for a hearing as well. Greetings from Slovakia. ; )
Please let me ask you - I´m seriously thinking about buying the FN2, but opinions about very stiffness of the stock suspension setup make me a little bit of afraid. Is that really so bad for a daily use, as some of other owners says? : )
Thank you.
The suspension is actually relatively hard. It depends if you can get used to it (I did and I like it even as a daily). You have to try that for yourself, if you have the chance.
Might be worth test driving to check out for yourself, for me personally it is fine as im used to stiff cars, however, depends on your own preferences :)
I changed my suspension to something more livable (Sachs dampers + Tein springs).
Idk about the rest of the car, but the fn2 intake manifold works well on my cw2 👍
Good or bad, it's still going to be a classic.
i agree, its always the ones that people hate on the most at the time that become classics
I think about getting an FN2 as my first car. It's a cheaper and more reliable alternative to something like a GTI.
Definitely GTI’s can be fun, but i would personally go with the FN2, so much more reliable and cheaper in the long run
gtis are boring as hell. go with the fn2, manual = fun
Is a great car went from an ep3 type R to a fn and it is a better daily although Ep3 more fun on a back road
What do you think compared with the others hothatch at the same price: Focus ST mk3 and Golf GTI ?
They don't turn the same 😂
@@2CoolF0rSch00l But in straight line?
@@bubu23101989 They are pretty much similar, but you really have to work for your horses in the Civic. You got to keep it at and above 6k RPM. Power = RPM x Torque. This engine has no torque, but all the revs, so if you want to keep up, rev it to high heavens (And dw, it's made for it)
The Golf always was too casual for me, the seating position, the pedals, the steering and shifter. It just feels like a regular golf with a better set up. Because of that, it's a better daily driver.
But I wanted something that's daily drivable, yet more on the crazy side. So I got the Civic.
I can't say too much about the Focus, but I'd take the FN2 over it any day. I love the K20 engine, and I love the crazy design of both exterior and interior.
@@smokeguru4107 Thanks
I think I like it? goes alright.. can fang up to Coles to grab your milk/bread,rip up the mountains, take yr Mum to church 😂.
*I like the possibility of it being a Daily too. I’ve got a 2017 MX5 RF & it’s fun on the right road but it’s impractical as all hell(sure I’ve got a family hack too). I’ll take a closer look at this thing. Great Vid bro!
Oh my god you did you just say it has 380k kilometers?? I had to relisten that part lol. I'm thinking of buying one with 220k and was thinking if it's too much but I guess not haha. Has the car been reliable for you?
Agreed😂, that is some hefty kms
yea they go hard, very reliable car, its a honda after all. you'll see plenty of videos of civics on the Nurburgring with over 300,000kms being treated with pure disrespect, but they just keep going 😂
@@DrivenDynamicAutomotive
my Man
that is incredible
I have my fn2 four years. Dayli drive it and tooked it few times to track days and drove with it two times 1000km road to sea. It has 228k km now and it is still like new.
Nice car.
I think so too!
very nice! please review my car!
What rpm does fn2 cruise at 6th gear going 100kmh?
Around 3000rpm if I reckon correctly, where I live most highways are limited to 130km/h and usually in 6th gear you're sitting at 4000rpm
Though it's not an highway car nor a cruising car by any means, it's way more fun on b-roads or twisty roads
@@valfar9999 Thanks for the info!
Mine sits at 3-3.5k, like the other guy said they're not really for distance nor highway driving, they're better off on B roads/country lanes
It’s a naturally aspirated engine..has no turbo or super charge
Better than GTI.
They’re a nice car to drive but the design could be better
definitely, another point of criticism, its an interesting design because some days i like it, other days i dislike it, i think its one of those cars that looks good from certain angles
@@DrivenDynamicAutomotive there’s a meme on the fn2 groups, the car looks like a computer mouse
Or a modern iron
I think they are just starting to look good now
personally I think it's so beautiful and spaceship-y :)
How can ANY type R be the worst Civic? Don't you think the worst civic would be some entry level civic from the early 80's?
You’ll find a lot of people actually quite enjoy the old civics, super lightweight with very playful chassis, engines are abit eh, but that doesn’t stop people from having plenty of fun with them
@@DrivenDynamicAutomotive
Im not saying they're bad but
how can a 200 hp type R with a 6 speed manual be worse?
Also im talking before 1984. When civics started to become sporty looking
@@alphatrion100 I never claimed it to be the worst myself you must watch the full video my friend
Mouse car
Yes it's the worst, you want a better one have to pay for it.
fn2 wins and it has to be black cause black cars matter....lol
🤣
naa, blue it is! :)
I dont count the civics after the ep model lol they just get worse as it goes 😂 modern look for the new gens are like cheesy bodykit styles you would see in the late 90s, 00s 😂 and they try say its a modern look but its a flame sticker away from a hotwheels toy car 😅.
Interesting take, I’m quite a big fan of the new FL5 Type R, definitely a more understated and subtle but handsome car compared to its predecessor
I didn’t know the fn2 had no indicator’s.
You’ll have to forgive me, I’m an former BMW driver… old habits
Indicator's
