HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

Her slight stumble in, "I'm not Russian." was FANTASTIC acting.
I replayed that part 5 times.
vectorm4 LMFAOOO
that's called annoyance at answering an absurd question. When donating blood I was asked if I have sickle-cell anemia. I'm clearly neon white but apparently they can't assume any response.
Lol!!
She LOOKS Russian!
funniest parts first "I held it to the light" and "I'm not Russian" Lol
Everyone: .....................
"She's not Russian sir"
ok.
@@jessabalough709 "Do I look like vodka mixed with Kahlua?"
I guess that's why they now have a carbon paper blocking sensitive information in bank statements.
No the really funny bit is where the assistant has to actually confirm 'She's not Russian sir'
Sheldon was hella salty in this movie.
Britanny Lichel when is he not 😂😂
Good thing Cookie Lyon put him in his place! Mathematics style ...
well he used to be the spotlight since high school
No, he was a racist SOB.
@@abeisgr8 Her name was not Cookie in this movie. That is a totally different character. You need to watch this movie, and learn about the character she is portraying.
I love that she never actually denies being a spy, only that she's not Russian.
Yeah, I liked that too. Kinda funny is the sub-text weren't so insulting.
"Are you a Russian spy?"
"No sir"
Yes. She did deny being a spy.
She said ‘I’m not Russian’ becuase clearly she’s not Russian
You don't have to be Russian to be a Russian spy.
Her Last name was Goebbel...
Joseph Goebbel...hm
"I'm not... Russian." "She's not Russian sir.." Lmao!
I could see someone making "Black Russian" jokes later....
This reminded me of the second Naked Gun movie. When Lt. Drebin was depressed and wanted a Black Russian to beat him up 😊.
I love how when she said "I'm not Russian" it looked like she just heard the most ridiculous thing ever but was polite enough not to let it be visible on her face. I rly love this movie
I love how the Kevin Costner character does a very subtle and natural double take when the white actress says, "She's not Russian." LOL Great acting.
no sir...I'm not russian
+
Esther Smith Same name. And yes ma'am I am Russian
I laughed so loud when she said that lol
she's not Russian, sir
LOLOL
Just watched this movie tonight and I couldn't help but laugh at this scene. "The Atlas rocket is classified" DUDE, THERE'S A MODEL OF AN ATLAS ON THE SHELF BEHIND YOUR DESK FOR THE WORLD TO SEE!!! EDIT: Just to clarify, it's not the Saturn rocket that they are talking about, it is the Atlas rocket which was employed in project Mercury to achieve orbit (you even see one launch later in the movie). Also, to help you spot it, it's right above Jim Parson's head for most of the scene. It's also on the movie poster and is behind the three women in the still image at the end of this video.
Raymond Whatley well anyone that goes into his office will probably be screened and given clearance on the atlas rocket, or he could just say that it’s a piece of fiction
It was not the rocket that was classified, it was the calculations used to fly it.
@@billr.1230
In this scene, it was the name "Saturn"
"That's not math"
There was no Atlas rocket, the actual name was Saturn, but the movie was not allowed to use that name, so they went with Atlas, the model in the movie is a Saturn I Rocket which became the famous Saturn V rocket that sent Apolo 11 to the moon.
@@deltaboy767 That is completely wrong. There was, in fact, an Atlas rocket which was used to achieve orbit and that is the model sitting on the dude's desk. Here's the wikipedia article on the Atlas rocket. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_(rocket_family)
when I first saw this and read the description of the movie and looking at the casts without watching the trailer first.. man I don't regret watching this. Bathroom scene got me crying...
Such a masterpiece. 😭😭😭😭
love from the Philippines!
oh Yess!!!Finally a co filipino who loves this movie as well I have gone boasting how Good this movie is and influencing them to watch it but only few did and only few understood the backround and the story which ended up me giving them the context of the movie...bathroom scene got me cryin as well....I suggest to you THE HELP yung gumanap ng Dorothy Vaughan diyan siya ang isa sa Bida doon and you will not regret watching this movie
and fictional... Try reading and watching the ACTUAL person in her own words. Wonderful lady that didn't suffer from racism there.. Her WORDS.. this is fiction with an agenda.. to generate powerful emotions. Like the bathroom scene you mentioned that never happened.. Now think about making a movie about a real white person and pushing racism towards them. That never happened. See the picture. or you don't care
@AM Bhat yea,, sad state we're in
@@pendragonshall Actually the facts are these:
1)The first started to work for NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) which was segregated.
2)Then this became NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
3) She used the closest women's bathroom, even during the NACA days (which were marked Whites Only), but by that point she had become a valued member of staff and anyone who complained about her not using a "Colored" bathroom was basically told to shut up!
4) The courtroom scene never happened. NASA "strongly hinted" that the school needed to let one of the trio this movie is centered on to attend the classes she needed!!!
@@timengineman2nd714 If you ever have a chance to watch her personally talk about this in an old video that I think is still on youtube. It' really worth watching. Her own words on this ENTIRE part of her life was not at all what was portrayed.. Peace
That was hilarious how she politely said "Are you dumb? Do I look look Russian to you?"
True, this is a great clip, but, obviously you don't kneed to be Russian to be a spy for Russia. This is a great movie!
"Are you a Russian spy?"
"No sir...I'm not Russian."
That slays me, hahaha!!
are you a spy ?am i what? russian spy ?i'm not russian priceless #Hiddenfigures
Lisa dsouza but I am
...well, it never hurts to ask!
Wish these clips were longer because I love Kevin Costner's character reactions and how he tries to help her out.
“Everytime we get ahead they move the finish line” this is the truth for all black/brown skinned minorities.
You'd be surprised how often the finish line is moved for whites, too!
Love lmao you think you really did sum
Tell you what, you come to Los Angeles and apply for a Civil Servant position:
Firefighter, Police, Building and Safety, I have $50 to your $5 that says a person of color will take priority over a caucasian...
@@sarahhaugh7922 Examples?...
The problem is with Attitude not with skin color
Rip Katherine a Johnson. And my thanks
Ok I think this shows the indifference of Harrison here. He asked her if she was Russian spy regardless of her skin color. I guess to him skin color did not matter, either you are good or not good, that was his worry. Powerful scene
It also shows he was no fool. The KGB didn’t care who or what race you were. In fact it would be a very smart tactic at the time.
"I'm not Russian...."
Loved 0:38 when two people are running their calculations in the background
why
This movie was awesome
I think what was awesome was a space program that in the time given them by JFK got it done, and put a man on the moon.......hollywood and the phony baloney shitheads that make 98% percent of the movies that we get our so called facts from don`t know up from down.....
I thought the funniest line was the other woman saying "She's not Russian, sir!"
I cant wait for this! Kevin Costner is back baby!
Tele3champion and racist like always
"Well, there it is"
LMAO
I love how genuinely disappointed and confused she sounded at the amount stupidity that just came out of his mouth with those few words like deadass "I'm not Russian..?"
I'm very impressed with how intelligent and interesting it is. It's always a relief and a joy to watch a well done flick.
Hopefully history books are being Rewritten to include all these fantastic things the ladies of color have done to get us into space. This story needs to be written in hard copy not just at the movie theaters. More needs to be investigated to find out some additional things that we were never told about. I hope everyone appreciate the gifts of each person no matter what race they are. We need to get over the bull of who's better than anyone else. Let's all work together guys to find out more of what others have sacrifice their being to make this world a better place!
You have a point. The math these people did to get us where we went is taught, but a personal connection to the math has all but been lost.
I went to public schools back in the '70's and '80's and even then I don't remember anything about NASA only being white men. There may not have been a focus on what minorities may have been involved but I don't remember any "whitewashing" either. It wasn't like I watched this movie and then thought everything I was taught about the space program was a lie, unlike many other parts of my formal schooling.
This film is actually an amalgamation of more people at different time working on different stuff. There is no evidence, for example, that these three even knew each other, at least on a social basis!
I wish I was as smart as they were at math. But I have Autism and I'm only good at history.
Well said, but this film actually comes from a book by M. Lee Shetterley
This movie was brilliant
Oh Yea. One Of The Best I've Ever Seen
Adrian Cronauer : [as Intel Officer] Well, we walk up to someone and say, 'Are you the enemy? And, if they say yes, then we shoot them."
Fantastic acting! Love this movie ❤️❤️❤️
This is one of the my favorite movies!!!!
Taraji Henson is pure genius in this role. Kudos to her acting chops. these are big shoes to fill to portray Katherine Johnson.
One of the best movies ever.
Technically, you don’t have to be Russian to be a Russian spy.
Also, did Katherine’s boss actually accuse her of being one at some point?
No confirmation if this happened IRL but it wouldn't be that surprising. It was the early 60s and not long after McCarthyism had reached its height so by that point probably half of all government workers had been asked if they were or accused of being a spy at some point. However, you'll also notice that the boss character doesn't sound particularly hyper about asking if she's a Russian spy. This is all lip service, so that he can go to his bosses (pretty much the US government) and go "Yes I confirmed she was not a Russian spy, stop asking."
Not to mention one of our most secret projects, Project Manhattan was infiltrated by Russia spies. They were able to get an inside man on our most deadly weapon ever used in a wartime setting.
@@christinacody5845 stupidest bit is, alot of the tech the Russians "stole" from NASA they never actually stole. They bought it from the civilian contractors that NASA used for nearly everything. Alot less of it was classified than people think. The overall design is classified but many of the individual components weren't, and a smart enough group (like the Russian space agency) could figure out how they went together to make the final design.
As for getting a man on the inside of the Manhattan project, it was about as secret as walking into the middle of a crowded hotel lobby and setting yourself on fire. Everyone knew it was happening (and I mean everyone), but getting specific details took some effort. Consider the entire staff for that project was upwards of 10000 people.
Love this movie.Great acting, superb women life.
You can have your fancy spy games. Katherine prefers just reading what y’all wrote down and then threw away.
"This data is super G-14 classified..." It is redacted using the cheapest bidder, skill craft Gov't pen/marker.....on typed words....brain boy one and two over there are lost in the sauce wondering how you can see it...great movie...
Taraji was really COMIC!
Such a simple and great scene!
My favorite scene in a wonderful movie.
I absolutely loved this movie
Thank you 🙏 20th Century Studio
Thank you 🙏 Hidden Figures team.
Great movie. I watched it.
I love her slight “mmmhemmm” around 0:47.
I still love this scene 🥰🥰
oh snap, I just realized she is girl in Hustle n flow. Great actress. Her voice is awesome
One of the best movies I have seen!
i don't know how true to life this movie is, but those 3 women were terrific.
The woman playing this part is stunning!
I have experienced the same thing as have many women. Women are held to a higher standard at work yet they are attacked when they come to conclusions they're not "supposed " to, even when the conclusion was relatively easy to reach, even accidentally, as easy as holding a paper up to the light
Great job by the actors.
The two movies I love the most where Octavia Spenser acted are:
1. Hidden Figures
2. The Help
It's Octavia Spencer not Victoria Spenser.....but i agree...great movies
Tonight they are back to back on FX.
Hahahhahahha I never realized how funny this line was
Such a good movie!!
plot twist, she was a russian spy
oh, ya, them black Russians are the ones to watch out for-- they look just like everybody else!
...especially with a southern accent!
@@sarahhaugh7922 Black people can be Russian. Ironically, a lot of African-Americans moved to Russia around the time period of this movie to escape racism in America and most of them have started first and second-generation Afro-Russian families like Yelena Khanga's family for example.
@@sarahhaugh7922 You also don't have to be Russian to be a Russian spy.
Absolutely brilliant movie lady had balls 👍👍❤️❤️
I liked the actors. I knew of the movie. But for some reason, maybe cinema fatigue, I just didn't see this film. Now I wish I had.
best film that i have seen in a long time
Me too. It proves that Black People (Especially Women) can be as Smart and are as much as Human as White People and others
Best movie EVER. Everyone should see it.
Man, if I had a brain like hers...
Love this movie. 🚀
GREAT MOVIE!!!
Fantastic movie
Excellent film.
Great movie!
Chelsea Manning's defense lawyers used a similar strategy with redacted docs... They analyzed the lengths of all the blackouts and discovered key phrases and terms that matched the blackouts in length and context.
Great movie
LMFAO THE WAY SHE SAID SHE ISNT RUSSIAN🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Never thought Sheldon would be an engineer.
TARAJI!
Nice

That was a little rude but funny at the same time.
RandyChase, I love love ❤️ you.
"She's not Russian, Sir"
Me: RIIIIGHHHTTT????
Is the confirmation that she’s not Russian had me dying!
Genius
bruh why even ask that question like they would expect a spy to admit that hes a spy
Little known fact; Katherine WAS in fact a Russian spy and had the drink Black Russian named after her.
A great movie 👁👁
"I'm not...(slide her eyes) russian"
All of them are pissing the same colour. Great. 🕊🕊🕊🍀🗽🗽🌍❤️
this movie was good seen it Saturday
Kaitlin Horton me too! And my name is Kaitlyn!

Kaitlin Horton lol
Quickly becoming my go-to feel good movie. F**king ALLSTAR cast. PEACE
Am I what? Mannn she did great job!! Lol
My mcyt brain just zeroed in on redstone and didn’t focus on anything else
Can't wait for Sheldon to do some cool nerd stuff like in the Big Bang Theory
His name is Jim Parsons and he's not a character.
This scene was very funny
I’m not Russian 🤣🤣🤣
i am wishing i can see it better on UA-cam tho message from carmen the stop and refreshing is not working for me to see the trailers or videos can this be fixed
carmen thomas you can watch it in my channel now!
Jim Parsons.
She's so pretty
There will be 3 again to step in once again when chaos ensues. 🤷🏽♀️
Maths is magic, black magic!
lol. i figured the "hold it up to the light" trick myself when i was in the Army. that's not to say i am on the same level of intelligence as Katherine, not by a long shot. i just found the hack to read redacted documents like she did.
That "I'm not Russian" like she wasn't sure if they could tell or not. And the white lady confirming it was even better.
Am I what? LOL
KGB: "B`lyad'! Why we not use black spies? The Americans would never have guessed!"
Such a wonderful, brilliant movie
I am just "...holding it to the light" too. I am no Russian spy either.
"Top secret!"
